Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

I agree with the previous comments. As often is the case, life goes on, things change, and people get busier. Such has been the case with all of us. Unfortunately this means that our gorgeous thread has, after a long decline, come to its end.

I have been posting here for a couple of months less than five years. That is a very long time. Being able to contribute here provided me with a great way to improve my English, and to interact with a brilliant bunch of like-minded people who hold career mode close to their hearts.

To me, this thread was always more than just a website where I could post stuff about FIFA. It was a fun past-time activity and a way to interact with people from around the world. It was a way to experiment with writing styles. It was a way to learn about different ways people play career mode. Most importantly, it was a way to have fun, to have friendly banter, to chat about more serious things (like that time everyone shared what they do for a living).

The most important, and best, aspect of this thread were always the people and the positivity that radiated from our little community. There were Chico, Tex, Rabbit, Indi, Keano, Cabee, Sportsfreak, Polka, Moose, and many other users who contributed in brilliant ways. There were also some of the greatest FIFA careers ever which will hold a place in my heart: Chico's road to glory with Wimbledon, Rabbit's globetrotter, Indi's Brighton, Tex's Deportivo, Moose's West Ham.

Unfortunately this all has come to an end. Life has gotten the best of us, and our wonderful little thread has come to the end of its days. Although the reasons for this are obvious and completely understandable, I still feel heartache thinking back on our glorious days of the past. I feel like this in understandable given the many years I spent here.

At this point I would like to apologise to Indi. A few years ago, when Chelsea secured the title, I made an immature comment which lead to a small argument between me and him. He apologised the next day, but I didn't. Now I would like to say sorry and apologise to Indi. I was being immature, and it was stupid of me.

Nonetheless, I would like to thank every single one of you for making my experience on this thread an amazing one! You have been the absolutely best bunch of random online strangers I have ever come across, and I remember you all dearly. Thank you for the amazing memories, and I wish you all the best in life!

PS: There's this newer thread which seems to be more active, and I see that Indi has posted there. I was thinking about moving over there myself, and I hope to see some of you there, too!

Well said Comrade, This thread is really what kept me coming back to OS over the years. My fondest moments were my made in this very thread. My Betis CM in FIFA 15 was easily my pride and joy in this thread. I’ll never forget the moment when after 8 seasons with Betis I finally went the distance in the Champions League. Sure my B squad let me down in the Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona on Penalties but the fact that I ended that save with CL glory still resonates with me today. All that time and effort playing so many games and countless hours of improving the squad over those 8 seasons. I joined this thread later then most but it was still just as welcoming to me. I also remember this thread reaching page 1000 it was such a joyous moment for all of us. This thread was and still is a masterpiece for all to enjoy. I’ll miss this thread and all the fun that was had in it.

Oh and one more thing F*ing Malaga! 18 goals in a game is f*ing mental!

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

I will try and fight to keep this thread alive.

Yes life becomes very busy, I have enjoyed all who contributed to this thread over the years. Man we have shared some excellent moments in life too as well as some personal losses. Each of you made this thread an excellent place to come. With that said I will try the new thread, but I still like this one.

I have an excellent career going now with a career I longed to try, but doing this a difficult way. A career with Portsmouth with house rules. Right now I am in first season at winter transfer period. Boy we are sitting third in the league but money is challenge. Have about six players I need resigned before they are plucked away. That’s the hard part. We keep you all posted, this is FIFA 18 on Xbox x.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

          Hey everyone,

Sorry to disappear without even so much of a word. It is a shame to see this thread fade after all of the fun years we put into this, but I know that we have all reached much different phases of our lives than we were 5 years ago or so. I honestly just haven't played FIFA much at all, I even bought 18 but haven't even played more than a few games into a career.

But this thread was always more than just a place to share by career mode stories, the bonds that we all established and all of the side discussions we had were absolutely the highlights for me. From our Star Wars discussions, to our battles with comrade Simp! We created a true community through this thread, and that is why I feel some guilt for leaving without so much of a word. I hope that you guys continue to enjoy this game, or whatever else your passions have turned to. I'll miss all of the personalities we had in here, and you guys can feel free to drop me a PM any time.

          Everyone takne care!

Well well well. This has been an amazing read here in 2020. It’s like going back to the past. Can’t believe how many years it’s been.

Hope everyone is doing well! And hopefully everyone gets to read this. Miss all you guys, and I’m sad to see that after this thread began going down there were still people trying to keep it going without success. There’s a bunch of bada**es in here, and wherever you are I hope life has been great to you.

Still see a couple of you online when I’m playing like Jamie and Simppu. If you guys ever wanna play a match let me know. My gamer tag is chavez1620 for those of you that don’t have me on PS4 yet. Alright fellas, I’ll be around. Stay safe and sanitary out there!

I agree, it is fun to go back and read the old threads. I didn't post much back in 2015-2018 but honestly following the careers in this thread and Moose's career on YouTube is what made me want to start my own.

I eventually lost interest in FIFA and moved onto PES though.

Interesting... every year a new FIFA comes out I always flirt with the idea of moving to PES but in the end I always fall back on my comfort zone and purchase the same ol’ FIFA. What makes you prefer PES over FIFA? The no license thing always turns me away but I’ve read that it’s not that difficult to fix.

I did that for about 3 years, play the PES demo then buy FIFA. The licensing issue is very easy to fix if you have a PS4 or PC. Unfortunately on the Xbox you are stuck with the generic kits.

It is a handful of things on PES that eventually made me switch. Little things like being able to update kits during my career so my club doesn't have to wear the same kit 5 straight years. Also in PES2020 you can adjust how often transfers happen in your career. I like the CPU teams not going crazy and selling everyone.

Gameplay, I think PES has been better for a few years. AI is smarter, teams use different tactics and the formations/instructions you give your players actually work. My favorite feature is my AI player can control the guy on the ball and I can switch off to another player to make runs or clear space.

Re: How's Your FIFA Career Mode Going?

I think I thought this was the other thread... Welp, I really must try PES at some point. The CPU selling players is an interesting note. I just took over Deportivo Coruña only to find Messi isnt ay Barça. As my team is trash and I'm not very good at the game, it has little relevance to my personal fortunes, but I find it curious and wonder where he went to. I moved from Amkar Perm (in Russia, now defunct, I'm playing 12) and Balotelli was playing for Lokomotiv.

Hmm so when last I commented on this thread, I think I was in Houston with the Dynamo still. I got offers from Mexico and Russia. Should've gone to Liga MX. But anyway now I'm in Spain. I had some crazy legendary sliders at Amkar but then I reset everything and just went to playing on pro and wow has it been a learning curve.

Through I believe nine games for Deportivo I have one win and two ties. Granted, I'm one of the least talented teams, but I should've taken points away from my first two games, especially as my goal is to avoid relegation.

It would be nice to build something here. I made a bunch of transfer purchases when I came in and, frankly, I should've cut more of the chaff. I brought in two defenders, two midfielders (Liam Trotter and Bit Goon Ya Ram), and a striker. Solórzano has taken over for Riki and is one of the leading scorers in the league with six goals, four of which came in our first three games. That third game, he had a hat trick, with two goals called in stoppage time. It was brilliant. We won 4-3. I think we lost the next one 3-4. The two ties came in our last four games, but this most recent one I'd have liked to have been a win. We'll nonetheless need ties to get from the bottom three.

Bruno Gama and Andres Guardado are a lot of fun in front.

I'm learning somewhat how to play defense since then, but I think I overdo it in the opponent's half sometime, and don't give myself space to develop an attack. Also I've had some weird luck with some of my shots, so I'm trying to regulate that some.

I'm relatively new to football in general and FIFA with it, but the return of the EPL has inspired me, and it's fun even if I am trash.

I randomly decide to go on a nostalgia trip, and to my surprise Chico has posted something after a long hiatus! It's a long shot, but in case you check this thread, you bet I'd love to play a match or two with you, or just reminisce about the good old days here.

Man, this forum really was something special. I wish it still existed, albeit even I no longer play too much career mode (mainly due to it getting tedious and not finding a suitable difficulty level).

For those of you who don't have me on PS4, feel free to add me. Simppu12 is the username, shockingly. You can also find me on Reddit at u/simppu12, as I doubt I'll be checking back here too soon.
