The World League (Second and Ten)

The World League began in the 1970 season using franchises from the USFL, WLAF, XFL, and NFLE stocked with NFL players. This is an auto-play league where we have Second and Ten simulate the games, and participants act as the teams GM.

    Game Settings
    - Home Field Advantage : OFF
    - Require FB in 2 RB Sets: OFF
    - All other rules follow the NFL rules from the current season.

    Supplemental Draft and Trades
    - Each offseason there is a 10 round draft for debuting players and free agents.
    - Draft picks can be included in trades.
    - Trade deadline is Week 7 during 14 game seasons, and week 8 once the schedule expands to 16 games.

    Expansion
    - League expands during the same years as the NFL (1976, 1995, 1999, and 2002)

Yep. For PC and it comes with all of the NFL seasons back to the 30s, and several NCAA seasons as well. Thereโ€™s a lot of neat stuff you can do with it once you play around with it a bit.

Re: The World League (Second and Ten)

In an effort to add something more than game results to this thread, I thought I would write up a quick draft preview for our 1972 draft. I can't give away too much in case one of our other GMs happens to read this, but it should give you a good idea of what we're facing with this class.

                      1972 Draft Preview

The 1972 draft is extremely top heavy and thin with there not being much value available outside of the first two rounds. Expect to see a lot of players going in the early rounds that would usually be mid-round selections as teams do the best they can to fill their needs with what's available.

There should be a very active off-season trade market for quarterbacks, as it is by far the weakest position available, and there are a few teams who need to land a starter for the 1972 season. There is some decent depth at linebacker, and a few good players available at runningback, wide receiver, and defensive tackle, but for the most part every league GM is hoping this class will be the weakest we'll have to suffer through. Franco Harris stands as the lone future HOFer available, and he will most likely go to the London Monarchs at #1 unless the Monarchs go on an unprecedented winning streak to close out the season. There are a few standout players at other positions, but this draft will mainly consist of a few solid starter, and career backups.

                      Best Available Per Position
QB - John Reaves: Reaves best season is 1972. After that he spends the rest of his career as a backup. Please weep for the teams who needed to get a QB in this draft, dear reader as this is a dark day for those poor GMs.

RB - Franco Harris: This nine-time Pro Bowler is the crown jewel of the 72 class by far. The smart money is that he will be playing in London next fall, but GM Gummo likes to keep us on our toes, so it's not a sure thing. At any rate I can't see Harris waiting more than two picks before he hears his name called on draft day.

TE - Riley Odoms: In an era devoid of quality tight ends, Odoms will indeed come off the board very early. A tight end with four Pro Bowls and 2 All Pro season is a rare find this early in the 70s, so my guess is he's a top 5 pick.

WR - Cliff Branch: Another of the few superstars available to us, Branch won't be sitting in the green room long before hearing his name called. A three-time All Pro, and four Pro Bowl appearances make him one of the best wide receivers of this decade, so it's no surprise that he'll most likely go within the first three picks.

C - Dave Dalby: The GM who takes Dalby will have to be patient as he doesn't become a starter until the 75 season, but once he does that GM won't have to worry about the center position until the mid-80s.

G - Reggie McKenzie: Surprisingly, McKenzie never made a Pro Bowl appearance (even though he was an All Pro in 73). A starter from day one, and only one lengthy injury in his career makes McKenzie a very consistent starter for a team in need of an interior lineman.

T - Stan Walters: Like Dalby, Walters takes a couple of season to get going, but once he does it's hard to find a tackle as solid as this. Two trips to the Pro Bowl, and nary an injury to be found.

DE - Sherman White: White only has three injury free seasons, missing 2-4 game per year otherwise. Even with those dings, he's a solid starter for most of this decade, and in this draft that makes him a first round target.

DT - Jim Osborne: Another solid player stands out as the best available at his position. He's not a superstar, but again in this class solid is about all you can hope for if you are in need at this position.

LB - Stan White: The "solid" theme continues at the linebacker position. White is a consistent starter beginning in 1973, and has no real injury issues to be concerned with. Not a standout, but any team looking for a linebacker could do much worse.

CB - Willie Buchanon: Injuries plague Buchanon early in his career, but he does have two Pro Bowl and one All Pro season to show for it. He's a standout DB for most of this decade, and I expect him to be the first DB to come off the board.

S - Thom Darden: He does miss the entire 75 season with injury, but Darden is a very good choice since he doesn't miss much time for most of this decade, and has the added value of being a decent punt returner early in his career.

For anyone who wishes to view the entire 1972 draft class is can be found here 1972 Draft. I hope you enjoyed reading this little draft preview and it gives a little more insight into what our GMs face in the upcoming draft.
