Holy crap they actually made this look legit.,

Big concern is the conversation system being repetitive, but the ability to purchase upgrades is really neat.

THAT...actually looks, dare I say it, promising?

Salary and "stuff" apparently affect how you perform on the ice, which, depending heavily on execution, could be either gimmicky, or revolutionary for the genre.  We'll see.

They showed a LOT of environments.  Apparently, world building has finally come to the frozen pond.  DEFINITELY a good sign.  They seem to have been taking notes from some of the better career modes of recent years.

This doesn't move NHL 21 onto my must buy list, but it definitely makes it a very high item on my watch list.

This trailer got me so excited. Wasn't planning on buying NHL 21 because of no next gen. But this might make me purchase.

This mode will be boring after some weeks. This Conversations have no influence to the game of a Player. You can create and try it at Franchise mode with the Coach mode in NHL 20 and you will see that I am right.

I usually end up picking it up at some point anyway, but I'll be quite content to sit back and hear some reviews before I purchase it.

Looks like it could be good, but EA has tricked me more than once!

You can buy watches, houses to get stronger. Now with BaP another Arcade mode in the Game.

I could care less about this mode if the gameplay isn't fixed. I'm with Travolterjohn. This will get repetitive and boring after a few weeks of play.

The trailer lost me at having fans and being able to buy houses and watches and all that. I'm not playing Be A Pro to live the life of somebody who plays hockey for a living, I play it to play hockey as a single person over the course of a career. MLB The Show does this incredibly well (it could still be better) and isn't all that intrusive or needy. The mention of a balancing act gives me bad vibes about derailing certain aspects if you don't actually balance what you do.

But. It's better than a 'campaign/story mode' career like 2K started and is now bleeding into EA's games

Even if the execution of what was shown falls a little flat, at least it's a vast improvement over the stale BAP mode we've endured for the last few years.

What I'm looking forward to the most is how well balanced all this interaction will be. Performance on the ice, meeting expectations, media, teammates, etc. As long as the on-ice performance doesn't get overshadowed, this is a must buy for me.

It would be great if nex gen got NHL21, but I understand the production cycle didn't work out favorably. I was lucky enough to pre-order a X series X, but even an upscaled experience is better than current gen.

                            THIS. Times a hundred.

Honestly, the thing that killed me about BaP this generation, was how flat the characters and the world were. To riff on a line from Gertrude Stein, there was no "there" there, there was no "who" there, and there was very little "what" there.

And without that, there's no sense of ownership, no emotional attachment to the player's character, and concordantly, little reason to stick with the game for the long term.

Road to the Show, MotoGP 20, WRC of late, and in particular, F1 19 and 20, have demonstrated how you can expand the game's world, add a defined supporting cast, and give the user an emotional hook, without bogging down the inside the lines experience.

If those are the series that EA cribbed from, then this could be a blockbuster.

As for those who insist on strictly staying inside the lines: dude, that's what they've been doing with this series for this entire hardware generation. Part of the potential appeal of a mode like this, is the chance to give the user a look at parts of the sport that most fans never see.

What IS it like, as a player, to run into one of your team's superfans away from the rink? How DOES a mentors' road trip affect the room, and thus, the play on the ice? How much of a financial stressor IS it, to cover a rookie dinner? How many butterflies DO you get in your stomach on Opening Night? How tough IS it to get traded, especially from your home team or the team that drafted you? And so on.

There's so much of the sport, which happens away from the game on the ice, and which is just as much a part of the players' experience, that fans may only hear about in passing, if at all. And just dismissing it all as irrelevant out of hand, closes off a venue for a potentially deeper and richer user experience, that will bring them back for another playthrough.

And if it does get slightly repetitive, is that necessarily a bad thing? I know most of the major story beats in Persona 5 Royal nearly by heart, but I'm still about to start my fourth run through that beast, because it's just so emotionally rewarding.

Again, NHL 21 is a strong wait and see for me: not a must-have, and not a pre-order. I like what I see here, to be sure; and the design choices do look intriguing. That said, a sizzle reel and the actual end user experience, can be markedly different; ergo, wait and see.

I dislike the young money vibe that the trailer has. Also really wish that the coaches would give actual hockey instructions instead of telling solely to the player silly "I need you to score". Coach doesn't necessarily care who scores, his job is to create optimal situation via giving tactical instructions and perhaps changing the line combos. But this would need some actual in depth hockey knowledge, which I believe that the devs are lacking or are unable to implement in the game. I wonder why they are not using some former NHL-coach to get some help like they used to with Marc Crawford back in the days
