Man the next gen visuals are amazing, dont get me wrong, but it didn't ruin current gen for me like PS4/XBO did, lol
2K is still a damn good looking game, and is often praised as such around the industry...even though people around here act like it has atari visuals sometimes.... -

Graphics/visuals have never been the problem with the game.Comment

Meh. Lighting is the only thing I see in the new trailer that really blew me away and considering the lighting was already downgraded years ago on this gen, I’d say this game is far from ruined.
What’s going to “ruin” current-gen is the gameplay. If next-gen is a significant upgrade then I won’t be able to go back to current-gen.Comment

Re: 2K have ruined current-gen version of NBA 2K21 for us, but in a good way
I couldn't agree less with this article. I'm not saying it's wrong or poorly written, just that I personally don't agree with how it's depicting current-gen.
It's funny how the things people complain about with sports games is the minutiae of player physics, inertia, pivoting, transitioning, speed and acceleration, and the physics of ball bounce, but when they praise a game, it's because jerseys wrinkle properly when sweaty, floors have scuff marks, and players' bad skin is lifelike. I mean, 2K and Sony may have to send Curry a giant Christmas package this year as thanks because his mouth guard in next-gen 2K21 images and videos has almost single-handedly convinced people to preorder the game and the PS5. I would swear almost half the images of the new game even here on OS are of Curry champing at his mouthguard.
You know what I saw in the video, a complete and total avoidance of showing real-time footage of players turning, posting, landing from a rebound attempt, changing speed while running... in short, all the things that have been problematic for NBA2K for years. I'm a cinematographer, so we could go on about lighting forever which would need a whole blog post, so I won't bore anyone. It's good, but it's not SO good that I think people should be going out to get a new game and a new console.
But it's what people have done as long as I've been alive. The TurboGrafx-16 was bought by people (who could afford) it because it made the Genesis look old, The XBOX made the Playstation look old, the PS4 and XBOX1 made the 360 and PS3 look old. However, in each of those cases, the emerging tech actually WAS changing not only the look but also software of the game. I don't see that here, but again, that's just my opinion.
I don't care if the audience is littered with clusters of the same four characters, if the players blink or smirk or grimace, if their hair moves when they turn quickly or not, because when I'm playing, what matters is that player and ball movement is true and produces realistic physics. And because I know that pretty graphics can make us think things are better than they are (FIFA, Madden, The Show). To date, I have yet to see that moving further into the future and more developed tech has necessary led to achieving perfect or even semi-perfect realistic gameplay and physics. In fact, what becomes more and more apparent with each passing year, is that we move further and further away from it. Because I think in every sport, the best all round representation of a game comes from years when the tech was less sophisticated than today. But I understand that that opinion can be caused by the way I grew up watching the tech change.Comment

Never going to make everyone happen with a product though.
I'm not going to analyze a 2 min hype trailer for gameplay. It looked beautiful but probably on rookie since Tim Hardaway should not posterize like that.Comment
