Madden 21 Next Gen Preview by Brian Mazique

Earlier this week, I had an opportunity to participate in a live stream preview of the next-gen version of Madden 21. Here are my two biggest takeaways.

Sidelines sound promising. I wish EA would have shown actual gameplay during this live stream.

Unless they plan on doing a slow reveal (which is strange with less than 2 weeks to go). Why would EA not show this stuff in the trailer. (Alos strange because its a free upgrade).

Makes no sense showing old sidelines so EA can get criticized for the past few days.

I also wonder why this virtual screening that they didn't show actual game play.

From a marketing standpoint some very interesting decisions from EA

Why add weather if it doesn't have any impact on gameplay, also why have so many positive previews but no actual gameplay to support it.

Bc if they didn't add weather, people would be like "this is next gen, and there's no weather!!" Even though it has no impact on gameplay yet, I'd rather there be options for rain and snow, than not.

Another strong touch that was mentioned, but wasn’t shown in the preview, was the inclusion of injured or inactive players on the sidelines in street clothes.

              Love it.

Would I like weather to effect my games? I guess. It IS an uncontrollable part of sports.

I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed though, but a lot of my Current-Gen gaming bad weather games still play different than a clear weather. Madden does something to make my guys play different. Worse throws. Falling WRs cutting on their routes, guys seem not as intelligent & off etc. Could it be better? Sure.
But I won't deny SOMETHING is already going on to date. For now, I'm happy they're atleast giving things like the weather visuals a much needed touch up.

The biggest challenge for me in bad weather games is that I can’t see **** when I’m playing in the snow and my opponent is wearing all white. I’m constantly throwing in to coverage.

The sidelines looked the same in the Trailer. So I don't know if it's something that they updated or if the sideline thing is more overhype.

For whatever reason, the trailer didn't show the new sidelines. It could be because the trailer is from an older build. But either way, you would think EA wouldn't keep leaving themselves open to criticism when they don't have to.

But it always seems like they do. But from all who have actually seen the gameplay, they say the sidelines were full. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Does that mean that now the players won’t slip in the rain when running there routes like they do now?

It's kinda funny that in 2020 we are hyping a game based on sideline player models.

Can anyone explain how Next Gen stats effects animations? I can see how it correlates to the speed and acceleration of a player, but how does it change the way they animate?

Madden always had a robotic feel to the movement, so I don’t see how this improves on that.
