I have used a playcall sheet in the past. I think it helps you to avoid repetition in your choices. You can generally pick out a lot of different types of plays and formations. You sort of cover all the bases. You aren't limited to whatever you think will work off the top of your head in a few seconds, based on down and distance. You can also create a playsheet broken down by down and distance if you like. Scripting your offense is a good way to go.
