Next Gen Historic team game look low quality?

Just got the PS5 and NBA2k21. I am on offline player and I liked what I read about being able to setup custom leagues and such using old historic teams. Being a Cavs fan and wanting to replay some classis Cavs v. Warriors matchups I chose the 15/16 cavaliers vs. 15/16 warriors in a play now matchup and the quality of the graphics looked like a big step down from a current game on the same setup.

The long and short of it was it felt like the historic game was not really using the same engine as the Next Gen version. It looked more like a PS4 game but maybe softer. Is this accurate? It even felt different. I have NBA2k20 on PC and I think it looks better than this historic game feature on PS5. Is this just how it is? I wish I had know if so since I like to play classic games and was looking for the "next gen" polish on them.

    Thanks in advance.

I hadn't heard of this but decided to give it a look. Hard to tell what's an upload issue and what's a true visual irregularity. Something does seem kind of off, like the courts are just washed out (which is what I read in the link provided above).

Even the modern classic floors look like they've been zapped of all their vibrancy.

Graphics in this game are really underwhelming especially on the classic team front

I feel something like that too... especially the colors looks a different game. I don't have the same feeling playing with classic teams regarding the graphics.
Maybe the presentation has something to do, as current games has those lights and a more immersive court.

Majority of the classic players on next gen look trash

but 96 jordan and 04 kobe look legit especially with this lighting! But most players faces look dull and inaccurate (besides star pkayers they look good)

I love classic teams i wish they at least filled the teams properly and get rid of the generic players because this has been untouched for many years ! Add more teams and fill the rosters accordingly and complete.

Really hoping someone would drop a classic roster set with complete teams !

                Really? The majority?

Maybe my standards are too low.

I do wish they'd fill the teams with decent generics if they can't obtain licenses though.

Re: Next Gen Historic team game look low quality?

I think we got spoiled in 2K11 and 12, and now that level of love has been missing ever since. Sure, we've had improvements here and there, but deep down we all know we're not likely to ever truly get an immersive legends experience again. It is what it is.

Bottom line, the legends/classic teams don't bring in the money for 2K, so they're just an afterthought. Us old heads are a minority. Sitting on our porches with our chewing tobacco telling the kids that back in the day there were no steppety back treys, and big men actually used to play in the post instead of handle the ball on the perimeter, like Skip To My Lou.

The classic teams will likely never get the level of love or attention that current teams/online fantasy modes get, because it's not a financial draw. It's just one of those things.

Let's be honest - they had every chance to deliver something this year, with Kobe - some people hoping for a 'greatest hits' mode similar to the Jordan Challenge, but again, it's not gonna bring in money, because it's not about VC and the target demographic for this game hardly give a rats *** about players/teams from yesteryear. They just want to wear a custom hat and a rucksack in the park. That's what sells.

I sound like a broken record, but for those who want a more definitive, dedicated retro experience - ditch the consoles and head over to PC, download the UBR and you'll have everything you need, so long as you don;t mind playing an older 2k. Everything from accurate cyber faces, missing players, authentic courts and full season play from almost any era.

This is why i wish our OS brother MJ wizards formulated a 96-97 season for us in 2k20 because i am still having fun playing these customize MJ seasons. I dont know when im going to upgrade my system. Im still going to forgo 2k21. Hopefully 2k22 will be a better game in regard to retro content.

I'm playing MJ's rosters on the PS5. Finally finished my edits to his amazing 01 roster and have been merrily hooping away with all those awesome teams from back in the day.

I don't think you'll see any major upgrades to classic teams moving forward. We didn't even get any legit retro teams this year. In terms of licensing, they've probably exhausted their reach in regards to players/teams from the 80's/90's and 2000's. Plus, it would appear the majority of folk who purchase the game are younger fans and don't much care for the old NBA, and simply want to play the fantasy modes, which brings home the coin for 2K.

I also chose to not purchase 2K21. They lost me when they changed the shooting mechanics and neglected to give us the option of reverting back to the previous layout. I'll probably stick with 2K20 for good now, unless i dive back onto the PC and play 2K14 with the UBR installed.

I think what we really need to happen is for nba live to return to the scene so therefore we can have some competition between 2k and EA. Competition is what create innovation. Thats the only way 2k can really get back to caring about their game instead of just trying to cater to the people that just play fantasy mode imo.
