Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Always tough to overcome 4 turnovers, and you are probably right the impact of Crowell's loss at CB was felt as Bostic went deep on you a couple times.
Solid game for McIntire though and Keyes and Eddie seem to have a solid connection.
Just remember to tell your players, Penn State puts their pants on the same way they do. Just because they have a #1 ranking doesn't mean they are unbeatable.
McIntire definitely earned his carries, especially with the fumble bug biting Satele again. I didn't let him see another snap after that lost fumble because I'm so frustrated with him, especially considering that he's more talented than the freshman and the offense probably will perform better if he gets the majority of the RB touches. Eddie, however, is a monster already and should shatter all the school's receiving records by the end of his career.
Coach Elliott will definitely take Coach Deuce's advice! PSU did lose a good bit after last year's natty run, but they're still stacked and may have a more talented QB (Star Jackson, former four-star washout at Alabama in real life) running the show now. I can't see myself winning in any scenario even with the gains the program has made, but I also don't think it's going to be a 60-0 type rout.
Definitely the difference in the game, felt like this was winnable if I could reverse one or two of those. NCAA 07 and 08 for the older gen was definitely a little too turnover happy (one of the game's only flaws, IMO) because of the home field advantage element, and I'd liken the Keyes interception and Williams fumble (and Chris Hill's interception on my end) to more of the game's turnover bug than just poor stick skills.Comment

Jenkins, a six-foot, 315-pound nose tackle from Bartlett High School, is moving forward with Miami (Fla.), Georgia, LSU, Virginia Tech, and Florida as his top five. He is currently a lean to the Hurricanes.

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
H2P! Great to see another Panthers win in the series, unfortunately at your expense, aha. Have to rack them up now to keep the series in our favor once you finally start getting into the win column against us. That said, good to see you keep things close, and a shame that mistakes seemed to make all of the difference.
I think this might have to be the end of the line for Satele, as sometimes guys have all the natural talent in the world but just can't put it together on the field and this may be one of those cases. McIntire making it look like he is deserving of first team reps for sure. Williams and Carter look like a dynamic duo in the passing game, and it was good to see the secondary at least step up with a few nice plays even in a tough outing.
It will be tough sledding against Penn State, but at least you're a bit battle tested now. Keep the mistakes to a minimum and who knows, maybe you shock the world?Check out my Pitt Panthers Dynasty (NCAA Football 14)

As for Penn State, I'm not going into that game with zero expectations after our performance against Pitt, but I can't see us winning even if I play the perfect game with no turnovers. Keyes is going to have to one-up his Toledo performance from the MAC title game, and I'll have to get something from my running game just to keep it within a two-score difference.Comment

Carnegie Mellon Tartans (1-1) at #1 Penn State Nittany Lions (2-0)
Saturday, September 18, 2010 | 6:00 PM (ET)
State College, Pa. – Beaver Stadium | ESPN
Team Overview (A+ overall, A offense, B defense)
The reigning national champions are off to another flying start, as Penn State sits at 2-0 with blowout victories over Eastern Michigan (35-0) and Syracuse (42-14).
Redshirt sophomore Star Jackson (190.0 QB rtg., 35-53, 531 yards, 7 TD, 1 INT; 10 carries, 82 yards, 1 TD) has taken the reins from graduated Daryll Clark at quarterback, and has gotten some early Heisman buzz. The amount of talent around him is absurd, starting with a dynamic tailback trio of junior Jamie Harper (20 carries, 117 yards), redshirt senior Evan Royster (19 carries, 143 yards, 1 TD), and redshirt sophomore Curtis McNeal (12 carries, 81 yards, 1 TD). Harper, an All-Big Ten First Team pick and BCS Championship Game MVP, netted 20 touchdowns (19 rush, 1 rec) and 1,243 rushing yards last season, while Royster rushed for 1,554 yards and 11 scores as a sophomore in 2008. The receiving corps features redshirt junior Derek Moye (14 catches, 164 yards, 1 TD) and Tyler Ahrenhold (1 catch, 51 yards, 1 TD), third-year sophomore Marvin Jones (6 catches, 93 yards, 1 TD), and true freshmen Quincy Enunwa (5 catches, 144 yards, 1 TD) and T.J. Jones, as well as tight ends Jon Ditto (6 catches, 67 yards, 3 TD) and Tyler Eifert.
The defense is incredibly young, but still features a bevy of four and five-star prospects. Redshirt senior defensive end Chimaeze Okoli (6 tackles) has five career sacks and will be drafted in the first two days of the 2011 NFL Draft, while junior defensive tackle Marcell Dareus (5 tackles) had four sacks last season. Sophomore linebacker Jelani Jenkins (9 tackles) had a great freshman campaign with 56 tackles, five sacks, and a forced fumble, and senior strong safety Chaz Powell (6 tackles) has accumulated six interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery over his career. The cornerback position is full of youth, with redshirt sophomore Dominique Stanback (4 tackles) and redshirt freshmen Jeff Butler (3 tackles) and Jamarcus Edwards (1 tackle, 1 FR) all playing in rotation.
Sophomore kicker Derrick Gates (1-1 FG, 8-8 XP) hit 50 percent of his field goals and all but one of his 69 extra point attempts as a freshman. He’ll also punt on Saturday following the academic suspension of senior Ryan Breen (3 punts, 96 yards, 32.0 avg.). Harper (3 kick returns, 41 yards; 7 punt returns, 38 yards) and Royster (7 punt returns, 39 yards) will return kicks and punts for Penn State.

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Some blast from the past names there! Moye and Royster were beasts at the end of their PSU career, and then throw them in with the other playmakers that PSU seems to have and you are going to have your hands full on the defensive side of the ball, especially with missing a couple of starters in Crosby and Crowell. And then add in that they convinced Tyler Eifert AND Marcell Dareus to come to Happy Valley... that is a scary lineup right there!
Is the suspended Tyrone McMillan QB for PSU the McMillan QB that you had been recruiting a couple seasons ago? That name is ringing a big bell in my head.Check out my Pitt Panthers Dynasty (NCAA Football 14)

You are correct about McMillan! He was the dual-threat I was really coveting in Keyes' sophomore season, but dropped me when he went from his top five to top three. He's now the third-string QB at Penn State with really no pathway to starting, so I'm sure he's kicking himself now!Comment

Season 5, Game 3: Carnegie Mellon at #1 Penn State
#1 Penn State Predictably Pummels Tartans, 45-14
Carnegie Mellon fell to 1-2 as the defending national champions raced out to a 31-0 lead through 23 minutes

by Jayson Thomas, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Facing the nation’s top team and reigning national champion, Carnegie Mellon predictably struggled as No. 1 Penn State opened up a 31-0 lead through a quarter and a half and ultimately cruised to a 45-14 triumph this evening from Beaver Stadium.
Penn State (3-0) held a 466-246 advantage in total offense over Carnegie Mellon (1-2), including a 273-110 difference on the ground. The Tartans were sacked four times and turned it over just as many, a number that included three interceptions from Justin Keyes.
“We weren’t really up to the challenge tonight,” said CMU fifth-year head coach John Elliott. “We knew we needed to bring our best to compete with a program as strong as Penn State’s, and that was not the case. I thought the fight was there in spurts, particularly in the first quarter after forcing a field goal and a punt. That long touchdown run by (Star Jackson) though, that was a back-breaker.”
CMU forced the only Nittany Lions punt of the game on the hosts’ first drive, but the Tartans gave it right back with a three-and-out. The visitors again held the powerful PSU offense down on its next drive, limiting it to a 30-yard field goal from Derrick Gates. However, after a couple of first downs by the CMU offense, Lawrence McIntire fumbled the ball back to the hosts and five plays later, Star Jackson ripped off a 52-yard dash on the read option to make it 10-0.
That was the momentum swing the Tartans couldn’t afford to give up, as the Nittany Lions scored on their next two offensive drives and added a 43-yard pick six from Jamarcus Edwards in the middle of them. Keyes’ offense finally dented the scoreboard with 52 seconds left in the half after finding Issac Schroeder wide open on a 23-yard pass play, but PSU regained the 31-point advantage with another rushing touchdown on its opening drive of the second half.
Penn State’s three-headed monster at tailback dominated, though Jamie Harper had the best day with 20 carries, 125 yards, and three scores to go along with 50 receiving yards on three catches. Evan Royster added 46 yards on nine totes, and Curtis McNeal netted 14 yards and a touchdown on three touches.
Keyes struggled against the defending champions, throwing for just 136 yards on 11-of-25 passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Nate Satele bounced back nicely after his disastrous performance against Pitt, finishing with 59 yards on 13 carries, while McIntire was benched after his fumble despite gaining 20 yards on two totes.
Todd Andriano forced Jackson’s only mistake of the evening in the third quarter, giving the junior free safety his third interception in as many games.
Carnegie Mellon begins Mid-American Conference (MAC) next Saturday, Sept. 25 at 12:30 p.m. when it hosts Ball State. Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
Obviously 4.5 avg is a decent day for Satele, but why only 2 carries for McIntire? Was he in the dog house after the fumble?
You need a perfect day from Keyes and sadly he was far from perfect..Comment

Re: The Rise of the Carnegie Mellon Tartans (NCAA Football 07)
I probably would've put him back in the fourth with the game over, but I honestly just forgot. Satele didn't fumble at all this time around, so maybe it's just something that happens where one back has the fumble bug each game and the other I can rely on? Keyes' performance can be chalked up to Penn State's speed and dominant defensive line making things difficult, as well as the HFA swung in the Nittany Lions' favor through the entire game.
I'm definitely taking that as a positive, lol. Figured I was doomed to give up a 50 burger after that first half, so I'm relieved to give up only 45. It was going to be a tall task staying within two scores of PSU even if I played a flawless game, so hopefully I didn't lose too much ground in recruiting and can get back at it against Ball State!Comment
