Help me make a legitimate trade to start my franchise!

I want to start a franchise as the Vikings, but hate Kirk Cousins... my favorite types of QBs are read option, as I prefer the college game. I plan on changing the offensive playbook as well.

    Two questions:

Whats a good, fair trade to acquire the type of QB I want and get rid of cousins? I don’t want to lose Cook, Thielen or Jefferson. Anything else is fair game as long as it’s realistic.

Whats the most realistic offensive playbook to swap to considering the Vikings pieces and your newt suggested QB?

Edit: I know Cousins is locked up for big money, and is something to keep in mind.

So basically seeking a trade for Cousins isn’t worth it or realistic. Either let him play out the contract, or draft a QB and bench him.
Thinking about just putting him on the trade block and seeing what I can get.

Honestly, I think that's something a lot of Vikings fans would do if they were given the keys to the team.

Alright, let me rephrase the question then... If Minnesota wanted to move to a read option style offense, with its current pieces, who would be a good "under the radar" target quarterback to acquire? I'm not talking Lamar, Mahomes, etc. I'm talking about a possible back up somewhere right now, or even a young guy that isn't working out in his current situation.

Put him on the block and the best offer I got was from the Pats.
      2022 2nd
      2021 6th
      2022 7th

Going to take it and shop for a realistic QB addition for my vision.

Vikings fan here, would not get rid of Cousins.

I think you have three four options:

        1. Sim the first season (the Vikings always lose a lot when you sim) and draft a quarterback.

        2. Revitalize an older player's career (RG III, Kaepernick, Taylor, or Marita.)

        3. Trade for a young QB that is not a cornerstone at this time (Brissett, Driskel, Hundley, or my homer pick, McSorely.)

        4. Bring back the man, the myth, the legend, Teddy B.

As others have said you can’t trade Cousins because of the accelerated signing bonus cap hit, they extended him before the season. Realistically he’s untradeable and trading him would absolutely destroy their cap situation. They could realistically draft a QB though. Probably not first round though. Your best bet would probably be to suck hard for your first two seasons and then draft a QB high in the 2022 draft.

Realistically no one would take him.

The cap hit would also be big for you so you may as well keep him and try and trade a late round pick for your ideal quarterback type to be a stop gap.

Having played and simmed with the Vikings in m20 I will tell you their cap situation is horrendous at the end of the first year. Trading him makes that worse.

I would tank 2020 season and draft a QB high in the draft and let Cousins ride the bench and be a good back up for you.

The best trade you could make is one you’d do at Gamestop.

lol just kidding. Could not resist.

Seriously though, your best bet is to DRAFT such a QB. Or go sign Kaepernick (although his contract would probably be too high).

                Got a 2nd, 6th, and 7th for Cousins.

Traded 3 mid rounds for Mariota.

First game against the packers went down to the wire. Was up 7 with 2 minutes left and lost, Rodgers couldn't miss but I forgot to fix Robo-QB before the game.

Second game I got absolutely SMACKED (like in real life) by the colts, 48-13. Mariota threw 4 picks. :/

Taysom Hill might be a good option. He has a star player ability and you can normally trade or sign him with out giving up or spending a lot. He has a low overall and with him being 30 I’m not sure if he is the future but might can be a good place holder until you draft or sign a better option.

Cole McDonald. It would be fun to build his career up. Let him sit a year behind cousins to develop amd then unleash him year 2.

Re: Help me make a legitimate trade to start my franchise!

                      Here's a possible approach....

                      Year 1...
Keep Cousins. Go with the NE Live Playbook - which has a lot of good QB option plays in it. It's diverse enough that you can operate with a more traditional QB like Cousins. Then, grab another more mobile guy on the cheap (several have been suggested already) that you can sub into some of the more option-heavy formations.

                      After Year 1....
You might be in a better condition after Year 1 to let go of Cousins. There should be less of a cap hit and (possibly) better options available via either the draft (depending on how lucky you get with the draft class generated) or via free agency. If you feel comfy with a new (more mobile) starter, then you can transition into a book that is more option heavy if you so choose.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

What i'll do may seem a little esoteric, but it works for me.

I'll take someone like Cousins and restructure their contract after preseason.

I'll edit the player, go to salary and restructure it this way:

For instance player has a 4 year deal worth 85 million.

I will divide 85 by 4 years (amount of years in contract), get sum and divide by 2 (restructure by half), then multiply result accordingly by how many years you want to resign them for say 7 years. So it'll be (85/4/2)7 = 74.37 million. So his contract is restructured to the tune of 10.62 million per instead of 21.25 per.

A little cheese, but adds to the story line I create with my franchise if a QB is not performing what he's worth and you can free up some cap this way.
