Major FA Addition
Memphis came into the offseason with the most cap space in the league. It was a little misleading with needing to pay Jaren Jackson and Jonas V and looking to avoid the luxury tax until next year.
Before we get to the major news lets clean up some of the others. It took more the sign Jaren Jackson then we expected after his overall improvement and A+ 3 point stroke. He signs a 5 year mega deal starting around 25 million per. Jonas comes back on a 3 year and 37 million $ deal that is front loaded for the 29 year old. After losing Winslow, Kyle Anderson is brought back as veteran depth on a 2 year and 11 million contract.
T.J Warren was one of the best FA that wasn't automatically going to return to his old team. He signs a 3 year and 60 million dollar contract to go to Memphis. The deal is also frontloaded so at age 32 so he will be making 18 million in the final year. This makes it a more moveable contract in the years ahead.
His stats don't quite match up with his increased overall the last 2 years in Indiana. He was still solid scoring 14 points in about 30 minutes per game. His 3 point shooting has been a little inconsistent and overall doesn't match his A+ grade. In the Memphis offense and the amount of open looks he will get the front office is confident he will be able to improve on that % this year.
He does have some offense skills outside of shooting with 84 driving layup and 92 close shot. He is also a consistent offense player with 99 in intangibles. He isn't a defender, but the 2nd unit is strong on defense with Stefan and Melton in the A range and Jonas playing the 5. Him playing alongside Jonas will also hide his rebounding.
He will take the role that Winslow had playing some 3 and 4 in the 2nd unit. His job is going to be to provide offense off the bench in the Lou Williams type mold. He will be surrounded by quality role players that scoring isn't the best thing they do. We think it will be a perfect match in the 25ish minutes a game he plays.
