    Franchise budget question

I am still playing my carryover franchise on MLB 20. My question is if I decide to buy more budget with the stubs I have earned when would you do it? At the end of this season or in the off season. Can you use that budget you buy to keep your players? Sorry, I don't understand the budget system.

I know this may be cheating but I'm about to get hit hard with free agents and don't really want to rebuild because I will probably switch to MLB 21 whenever I can find a PS5.

You can buy budget during the season to give you the space to sign your upcoming free agents to contracts. Then your surplus will influence your budget the following season I believe.

Yes any extra budget you have the last day of the season or last playoff game if you made it will directly increase what you are able to spend.

Be warned though, if you are a low budget team your payroll can be higher than you income the next season and you can lose money weekly the next year and will have to buy more budget at the end of the next year to make up for it. Not a big thing but it can directly impact your ability to sign free agents, resign players during the season, of potentially impact draft pick signing.
