Would love to know why TJ Watt is that much lower than Garrett. When he leads in every single stat imaginable between the two.

Same thing stood out to me. He's been fighting the public perception tied to their draft position (1:1 vs. 1:30) for years. He was 2nd in DPOY and barely lost to Donald, but somehow Madden has him rated this low.

Grouping all defensive linemen together is also bad considering the roles a Defensive Tackle plays in a 3-4 are different in a 4-3. 3-Tech DT, 5-tech DT, Nose Tackle in a 3-4, etc.

Is there ESPN presentation in the game ? The Sportscenter twitter account posted a Aaron Donald clip and the Madden scoreboard had the ESPN logo on it.

They just pasted their logo over the EA logo.

Grouping all defensive linemen together is also bad considering the roles a Defensive Tackle plays in a 3-4 are different in a 4-3. 3-Tech DT, 5-tech DT, Nose Tackle in a 3-4, etc.

Unfortunately, neither the NFL nor NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement recognize "edge rusher" / "interior defensive lineman" / "3-4 defensive end" / "off-ball linebacker" either. If you go onto NFL.com, TJ Watt isn't an "edge defender", he's an "outside linebacker".

To that end - for Franchise mode enthusiasts, the outdated position designations (we agree they are outdated) remain important for EA to maintain for accuracy's sake, for better or worse.

Hopefully the official NFL culture around player positions changes sooner than later.

Not saying he's not good, just if he was the best edge rusher in the league wouldn't he atleast have an edge in maybe 1 stat? He's forced less turnovers, less sacks, tackles, you name it.

The standard NFL defensive counting stats - especially sacks and forced fumbles - are really misleading for evaluating the most effective pass rushers.

You have to have access to the analytics data about Pass Rush Win Rate (how often does a rusher defeat his pass blocker in under 2.5 seconds), double team rate / double team defeat rate, QB pressures, and so on to get a clear picture of if a rusher is actually good at defeating blocks and affecting the passer, as opposed to being an opportunistic cleanup guy benefiting from a teammate forcing the quarterback to move in response to a compromised pocket.

That's great but TJ was 7 votes away from DPOY and Garrett had..... 0 total votes. You can debate the legitimacy of certain stats if you want, but this is a situation where Garrett's draft status and the public perception of him as a star are propelling him to a higher rating than "JJ Watt's little brother"
