Interception Fest
I haven't played Madden in a few years and now I remember why.Last edited by bigjdotcom01; 08-25-2021, 02:17 AM.Tags: None -
Re: Interception Fest
I'm throwing as many as 3 picks in a half, on All-Pro, the same difficulty I play every year...Outrageous. In one example, I had my qb (Hurts) playing extremely efficiently, like 19 of 21 at one point. Then once you throw one pick, the momentum makes everything snowball on you, and the next thing you know, you're down three scores ...

I have the CPU slider for int's at 10, and I have thrown about 2 over 5 games.

Re: Interception Fest
Thanks Instant Classic, I was coming on here to post the same thing as the OP. I finally scrapped my initial franchise because I was so frustrated with my interceptions. I'm loving All-Pro, everything feels appropriately difficult except INTs. I finally played two games last night with Aaron Rodgers thinking this has to get better and I threw 6 and I'm just doing Play the Moments. I will definitely try that slider setting. Outside of that and penalties, I feel like I'm in a good place with everything else.Comment

I have been there, trust me. Threw a fit many years ago as I was throwing 4+ a game.
Just watch your reads, and try not to throwing into much coverage. With all the "sucking" animations literally floating defenders to the ball, he may look open, but sometimes isn't. Also, make sure to use lob passes more, and high angle passes to get them over defenders. In the red zone, I use the low throw modifier to get my guy to go to the ground to get it. Doesn't always work, but seems to limit my ints.

Re: Interception Fest
Defensive players seem more aggressive going for the ball than offensive players. Especially on curls, the defensive player will jump the route while receiver just stands there. But yea lowering INT slider has always been a must in Madden, for both sides.Comment

Re: Interception Fest
Low throw modifier fixes this. Trade off is that RAC is null, unless the defender goes into a swat animation, and biffs it past the reciever.

Agree. I use the low throw modifier a lot. Especially on curls and closely covered slants.

Re: Interception Fest
always my biggest issue with Madden. I realized that most of the ones I've been throwing this game have been my fault in Madden World; in real life, you'd see more of a fight for the ball. I know I have to be more careful. But it is very frustrating. and playing as the Jets for my whole life, I haven't had a highly rated QB to work with in franchise.
I usually throw a bullet pass no matter what I actually try to do; but if I touch pass, it just stays up there and like 3 defenders converge on it.Currently playing:
Madden 26
MLB The Show 25
Super Mario Wonder
Pokemon Unbound

Re: Interception Fest
I threw nine in a game. New record! (Cloud franchise, All Madden FMDG sliders)
In four games since, I have thrown zero. No slider changes.
Part of this is working out plays and routes and combos that work. I'll always check the replay after an INT to see how it happened. In almost all cases, it's when I throw it directly to a defender, having misread the coverage.Comment

My trick is to try and pick a play with a check down. Either a TE crossing underneath, or a HB in the flat. I make 2 reads, and if I read the coverage wrong, check down. Then I go into instant replay and break it down to better understand. I see it as studying film [emoji1787]

Re: Interception Fest
I never played QB in high school, just FB and DT. I can read the up front assignments, but im sketchy on coverages.

You need to try and ID the defense pre-snap. At the very least look if they are playing off the line or potentially pressing and check out the alignment of the safeties. These two checks are going to narrow it down and give you a decent idea of what coverage the defense is in.
Once you ID that you need to pick which route or two are going to be the primary reads against the assumed coverage. For example, if you have a WR running a hitch on the outside and the WR in the slot is running a corner over top that hitch and I see they are playing off coverage then I'll key in on the corner playing over the outside WR. If he sits on the hitch then I immediately see if the corner is open or if the safety is playing it well. If those are both covered I check it down. If the corner bails and goes upfield to run with the corner route then the hitch is likely wide open for an easy 5 yards at least.
Other examples may include a streak on the outside and an out from the slot. At the snap I immediately see if a safety is going back to help with the streak. If so, it's the out route I watch. If the coverage indicates they'll be open out of the break I'll throw it. If not, check down. If no safety plays the deep half and it's just a 1 on 1 streak, odds are that's where I'm going with the ball.
I practically never actually progress through every single route on any play. There's typically never the time in the pocket to do so and it usually leads to me feeling pressure and forcing a throw. Have 2 or maybe 3 routes you read as you drop back, if none are open when you finish the drop, check it down. You can usually watch the safeties and your key defender in your drop back and immediately know where to go with the ball.
The defense will tell you where to throw the ball more often than not.

Re: Interception Fest
I didn't even realize there was an interception setting, though -- This could be a viable solution, as the rest of the gameplay on All-Pro seems to be a great challenge, and fair...
My hesitation with tweaking sliders is the thought that now I am changing the game from how the developers originally intended, and making it "easier" [for myself]... I know it's a bit neurotic, a bit rigid, and might not make a lot of sense -- but that's what goes on in the back of my mindComment

Re: Interception Fest
Agreed. What's really frustrating to me is how DB's and LB's undercut out routes when the receiver has 3 or 4 yards of separation -- a completion would have your receiver running free & clear up the sideline. But no matter how much you try to "lead" the receiver to the sideline, it doesn't work at all, and goes straight to the stomach of the defender...and to the house for a Pick-6.Comment
