Face Of The Franchise is SO Bad.

I'm still waiting on the scouting update for Franchise, so I decided to blast through Face of The Franchise.

Straight to the point - I don't understand the point of any of this. The writing is cringe. The characters are as shallow as a puddle and have no motivations. There's no story arc. None of the choices are presented in a way to suggest they matter. The College Football Playoff games are brain-dead easy to dominate. The CPU team in The Yard special event keeps throwing the ball out of bounds. Nothing has any stakes. The text captions don't line up with the audio voice acting clips. None of the drills teach you how to play Madden, so this isn't for beginners, which I could at least say that about Longshot. It doesn't teach football at all, either.

Face Of The Franchise is entirely forgettable story and boring chore of a video game. I don't understand for what sort of Madden player it is made for. This is easily the worst part of Madden 22.

I've played as far as the first college game, and am finding dull.


Last year was bad enough. Corny stories. Throw for 700 yards and 10 TDs in the bowl game, and still hear the coach wants a change at QB. How do they sign this stuff off for release?

I miss Longshot. At least it had made for the CW tv mini series cheesy charm going for it.

I understand the idea behind wanting to have a single player "you are the star" campaign-ish mode but they write the stories in such a supremely lackluster way.


I still stand by the idea that instead of Face of the Franchise mode, if they want a cinematic story mode they should have a mode where you can choose one of two, three, four teams and play as them through their current year with storylines interwoven and a branching story to play through. Instead of cringy player-focused story you could follow the Bengals as Joe Burrow plays his sophomore year returning from injury and whether or not they take the next step, you could follow the Cowboys and see if they finally break through as contenders instead of pretenders, you could follow the Packers and see how the drama between Rodgers and his team unfolds and if he win a second Super Bowl despite not being content.

If you're going to do a storyline/story mode you have to make choices matter. There has to be rewards for success and consequences for failure. What's the point if the outcome is the same no matter what you do on the field or what choices you make off of it. That's lazy. Not sure if because they devoted more time to other aspects of the game, that they didn't really touch FOF...but, to go 90's, it's wack right now!

It's strange that they continue to invest half butt resources into this mode every year. It's always full of bugs and never gets a good reception. They should drop it and put their focus on the modes they already have. even if it's MUT that i have 0 interest in, at least a popular mode would get better rather than having a whole team devoted to bad writing and bad acting every cycle.

I played Face Of The Franchise whichever year they brought back college teams and found it way too short and milquetoast to have an opinion about lol.

I thought the first Longshot was actually alright (relative scale being used liberally here, sports game story modes generally all have to be graded on a curve lol), and the second one was kinda cringe but still significantly more thoughtful and thought-out than what we have in Madden 22.

Regardless of their relative quality, I think I could at least understand the purpose and target audience of each past Madden story mode. This new take on the single player story in Madden is just… it’s dire. Like I said at the top, I honestly don’t know what sort of Madden player M22 FoTF is for.

I haven't been able to bring myself to even attempt this mode yet. I played longshot and while it wasn't "good" it did satisfy my need for a story. Face of the franchise just sounds so much worse.

I don't understand why they don't just copy the ideas they had from the old superstar mode. We don't need boring poorly written stories to be entertained.

I feel like Longshot was probably the best iteration of the mode because it got to work with the creativity of a full backstory on your character instead of yielding to the general stories that have to come with customizable names and characters. These types of modes are hard to pull off. NBA 2K MyPlayer isn’t perfect either

I'm a big single player career mode player, but I never cared for the approach they have taken since the start of Longshot. They were(and still) behind the major sports games single player modes. But taking the primarily made for TV cinematic stories approach isn't it. MyCareer is popular because of the online portion of the mode. The Offline MyCareer has been very shallow and the predictable stories only last until the NBA season. I guess you can say MLB The Show has the best offline single player experience. I didn't play it, but NHL Be a Pro mode didn't seem bad.

I rather them go back to the old PS2 Superstar mode format, especially with the College Football game coming back in a couple years. Just capture the full athlete experience off the field. I honestly didn't think they're were going to bring FoTF back this year. Based on Madden's past, you might only see them focus on a feature for 2-3 years before dumping it. I will be fully surprised if we see FoTF next year. Where do you go with the mode in year 4 of this mode. What, add another position. Just go back to the Superstar mode of old approach

I tried to play it then I started to skip the scenes cuz I would just cringe. It's crazy that I remember some of the 2K storylines more fondly than I ever will this.
