    Drop Coverage

    Hi guys!

What's the best defensive set to emulate the drop coverage in game?

    No hedge? Catch hedge?

      Not at all.
The big men, specially centers, they stay still too high in pick and roll situations and most of time are going to switch or double the ball handler. Drop coverage position is different than real nba.

I could be wrong on this but I believe Ice and Catch Hedge are removed from the game. They are still a menu option in Coach Settings but I don’t think they actually have any affect.

            Drop coverage is…

            Go over on ball screen

            Catch hedge center

You can choose catch for all players as well. Or just switch those and only set drop with your center like Lopez…

You can also choose force baseline and ice to play higher and force the direction to the screen and drop coverage.

Just tested and the center plays it right… However, not as dropped as you would like.

For some reason I thought it was different in 2k. With most people knowing what drop coverage is to make simple it should just be a set call in game. I’ve never even heard the phrase catch hedge until 2k and I’ve been coaching 25 years. Lol

The thing is it’s not really true drop coverage. But it’s as close as your going to get to simulate it…

I mentioned this in another thread. I wish the CPU drop was a couple of steps further back. It'd open up the mid range game more.

But it'd also allow us to hit LT and get the ball defender in the screen to ride us. At the moment, it works well in the open floor.

But the drop big is so close, hitting LT after using the pick activates a post up with the dropped big, rather than engaging with the trailing ball defender.

Yes! You can get a snake dribble and do this with the PNR plays you choose. I snapped like 10 videos doing it but couldn’t get it to upload to here.

But what you stated as far as put defender in jail needs to be a configuration that they add in! Not LT and I post. Coming around a PNR. I can never trigger the put in jail animation. That needs to open up the mid range game more for sure. I mean that’s what’s open in drop coverage so the counter needs to be there!

                    Completely agree with you!

Did they change it for 2k22? In 2k21, catch hedge was absolutely horrible to use as the center often time sprinted towards his assignment instead of dropping down to the paint.

It’s not great, more of feather coverage than drop coverage but it’s all we got. And yes he picks up ball handler pretty fast and ends up being a switch more times than not …

Force baseline is dedicated to side pick and roll?seems like an ICE?

                            Re: Drop Coverage

force baseline is the orientation that a Player gives the ballhandler while closing out.

is ice actually working this year? in 2k21 it was Not working.

drop coveragr actually must be somewhere in There. if you Play pnr defense in Auto with Team communications on, sometimes the Center calls "DROPPING!" and Drops down.

Yes force baseline is like ice on the wings as far as jumping to take away middle. It’s not all on closeouts it’s on ball as well. Look at how your on ball defender guards when set. He’s not lined up with him. He shades a side more like ice. So my point was it would work with the over screen in drop coverage. More how teams are playing it in today’s nba…
