Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
See 24. Ha. I had left the defensive settings alone after Czar said that Leave them and other defensive settings were placebo. This video confuses me even more.
How do we know what defensive settings work and which ones do not? I know pre rotate and Leave them don’t work. It is now evident that drive help works, and I have found double the dribbler on the drive to work.
It would be nice if they let us know which defensive settings don’t work, and which do.Psn: Alabamarob

Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
Czar said getting defense right took precedence over completely redesigning the menus put in place before he took over.
I'd prefer defense working well altogether out of box for the most part and the transparency over a nice new design menu and holes everywhere personally
Rob is right though, clarification is needed

Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
First video is simply that 2k dev team hunts down UI bug. Title of thread should be "2k devs hunt down bug." Well, that's cool they fixed it.
Average customers sometimes forget how delicate game coding/ game design can be at times. Reminds me of the "ground bullet bug" when halo launched on PC last year.
So, halo is a first person shooter (obviously) and the point is to aim your camera at another person. With the PC launch being very important and after days, weeks, or months of gameplay testing (who knows how much testing obviously)... nobody thought of 2 obscure steps:
1) What if I shoot at the ground?
and also
2) what if somebody else is looking at the ground while I am shooting at the ground?
Here's a light-hearted video of the bug:
<iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5rYrr-Fybik" title="YouTube video player" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen="" width="560" height="315" frameborder="0"></iframe>
The bug only works if both player 1 is shooting at the ground and player 2 is looking at the ground. A very obscure scenario considereing most people tend to look/shoot at shoulder height... ya know, to hit other people.
Anyways, more interesting than the video of the bug is that 343 wrote a blog post about this bug entitled "The Life of a Bug"
The life of a bug starts about 1/4 down the page....
The genesis of the ground bullet bug? an obscure "-1" in the game code.
Anyways, the halo blog post should be an interesting read for video game enthusiasts.
This 2k video was amusing (to me, at least) because now, hopefully, 2kdevs will put on the to-do list ... check if UI settings remain after exit and entering a game. But hey, at least they found the bug and fixed it.
It would be nice if 2kdevs put out a blog post or pdf manual about tendency settings, slider settings, etc etc. Because, if we know what each slider/setting does, and it isn't being replicated for some reason, a proper bug report could be submitted to 2kdevs.
regardless, enjoyed both videos.Comment

Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
I am perfectly fine with the progress Czar is making on defense. Defense is playable this year, and there is enough in there to have a minimum scheme. But, to make a video about defensive settings when all of the defensive settings don’t work was confusing to me. Especially since they won’t tell us which ones work and which ones don’t.
I wasn’t hating that video just caught me off guard.
I'll have to re-read what he wrote here, but I thought he detailed the specific sliders that don't factor into what he has in place, I dont think he made a sweeping comment that they all don't work.
but I'll def have to look at it again.

Nope, completely get what you're saying.

basically yes. I am on your side there. But what would be nice is if we get information about which options have been taken out of the game and have no effect and what actually works right now. That would be great.
Stuff like this video here about drive help!
Still one question left: If I want a "standard", proper help rotation. Should I just leave it on "Automatic"?Last edited by jk31; 09-23-2021, 04:23 PM.Comment

Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
Throw out the entire menu and start again. Eliminate the legacy issues by only putting in stuff that works. I’m certain that is the plan.Comment

Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
Can’t watch the videos right now and have trouble following along to what’s being talked about.
Can someone give a cliff’s notes? I’m assuming certain defensive settings do nothing? Is there a recommended defensive setting he states to use (“automatic” etc)?Comment

Re: Da Czar- Drive Help Settings Explained
Basically saying that there was originally a bug in the menu making it appear as though the setting was set to no help, yet players were still helping. Now, what it says is what it is.
The catch is that the help often comes from the wrong place. A drive from the right wing shouldn’t trigger help from the right corner, but that’s often what happens and has been that way for SEVERAL years now. I can recall that happening back in 2K13.Comment

But that's fine. I hope I can mention to Czar that's how Robert Horry was so valuable to Kobe and the Lakers during those championship runs. Kobe would setup a drive to the open lane to sag the defense and he went right almost everytime. Just one clip below to illustrate

You don’t help from one pass away. Especially off of a shooter in the corner. That’s why coaches define the floor as the ball side and the help side on defense.

Haha i think that guy sagging off Horry was HOF Pippen drawing a charge. Thats a ensuing possession, do u give up a 3 or high percentage shot in the paint by another HOF Kobe? It's a gamble and Pippen (or the coaching staff off the 2 TOs) chose stopping the drive to the paint and leave whoever out there in the perimeter. On that play, Portland was leading by 2 under 10 sec to play, game 3. If this is a game 7, the defensive gameplay may have been a little different just to be on the safe side (I dun know).
So I really think its fine to keep that logic as-is for the AI to help (whether strong or weak side whichever is the fastest to help in time). And the more the 'no drive help' is needed in such late game situation (I may rather give up the paint and defend the 3).
And since its video game, a lot us play with LBJ or Luka-like court vision and so weak side help really makes little impact on us with cross court passes to the opposite cornerComment
