Looks pretty solid to me. Not really human vs. CPU but game looks nice.
People expecting a massive change definitely will be disappointed but player faces look a lot better and the ice looks great.
I just saw an awesome animation where a guy slid on his knees to block and shot and his momentum had him spin around and he grimaced and gingerly got up. Really nice.

Nothing to do with the Gameplay but how many years will EA NHL continue to bring to us the same boring Goalie masks. I guess we have them more than ten years now. Goal celly the same, see no new cutscenes during the game.

I listened to the whole broadcast, pretty interesting conversation with the dev team. They said the competitive scene wants different things than the sim scene (obviously) and it meant they have had a challenge in balancing things like speed. They said on the sim setting, acceleration is slower so you have more differentiation between stars and scrubs and it feels slower, but in head-to-head on competitive players want control and to not leave things up to randomness (which sim players are fine with - it's hockey after all). Sim players are fine with a puck bouncing over a stick or dekes being really hard but online players want a deke to work if they input the controls properly, for example.
The stick physics they said finally got addressed because sim players wanted it and they could actually devote an engineer to make it work for all modes, for example.
I didn't care for the presentation in-game frankly and hopefully we can turn off a lot of the indicators and x-factor notifications like Madden. But overall the graphics look excellent and player faces look great. Movement is good. Even in a head-to-head setting you could see d-men being able to shut down lanes to the net with good positioning. AI is going to be something to watch but I've learned to live with some warts.
Really, really excited for release!
I just hope they add some tweaks to franchise mode beyond x-factors and the such. They have such a great franchise mode foundation and it's just building on it now. Make the coaching staff/hires more dynamic, add more information in franchise mode like box scores, and we have a fantastic game. Can't wait for the slider gurus to get into this game on next-gen and really make it shine.

These games (i.e., the last 16 iterations of NHL) always look the same when watching player vs player so there's not much to comment on there. I am just so ******* bored of this game.
A positive though: the new ice looks great, and much more importantly it looks like the new lighting system actually makes different arenas look different. Every rink looking basically the same is definitely a contributing factor to why I burn out every year now playing franchise mode. It's quite apparent when the gameplay jumps from Buffalo to MSG here: https://youtu.be/pyIOGzdView?t=1545

Ice reflection and lighting does look great, the overhead view is what it is, can it really look better? I'm more interested in the puck physique and if we can get some more goal variety instead of the same old slapshot, one timer and backhand goals.
I am actually really worried about this years game. With so many prospects getting loaned out to USHL clubs, last year because of the pandemic, and the emergence of so many NCAA and Russian league top prospects this game is going to have so many top prospects missing at release. It’s really going to make playing with a rebuilding team in franchise pointless.
The NHL franchise has a policy that they typically don’t add players in the game until they have played their first game in one of the games licensed leagues.
I remember a few years ago they added Jack Hughes before he ever played a professional game as he was the #1 overall pick. Hopefully they can work something like that out this year. Otherwise franchise won’t be playable for me until months down the line

I can’t really tell how the game will look on Ps5 with over head view. I hope there is more neutral zone pressure and skill involved
I am an offline franchise guy, just want the cpu to be smarter on both sides
