My money is on FUT 23. I mean, why bother hiding their agenda, anymore?

Perhaps a potential move to distance themselves from any future negative correlations to FIFA. You don't just decide to rename one of the biggest video game franchises without some serious consideration.

Yeah I think that’s it right here.

Honestly, I think if you say “FIFA” to anyone 45 and under they’ll probably think the video game before the corrupt organization [emoji23]

And I'm sure those of us ~35 and older will continue to call it FIFA for the rest of our lives, no matter what they change it too.

So they’re not coming out with a World Cup edition I assume?

                  I'm half joking half serious...

Setting themselves up to take the eFootball route. First kill the name. Then go F2P. Now we can download Pro Clubs, manager career, player career, Volta as separate modes at $60 a piece buuuuuut since it's EA still do yearly releases of each mode with still only incremental changes.

Yeah, they have their own negative correlations to deal with (underage gambling, pay to win, etc), they don't need extra real life problems on top of that.

Re: EA Sports Could be Renaming Their FIFA Franchise in the Future

What's the benefit to them paying for the FIFA name, anyway? They can't call it the World Cup. Referees don't have the FIFA badges on their shirts. Am I missing something that we'll actually lose if they go another route?

Obviously we can be cynical and assume that this is one more step towards it just being a FTP lootbox sim, but if they defy our expectations and keep the game as a full product I don't know what we'd miss out on with a name change.

This. FIFA is nothing more than a membership org that owns a few tournament names. They don't even pay any infrastructure costs to hosting countries. EA will likely save a lot of money with this move.
