    Taysom Hill

Sorry if this has been asked before but is there a way I can play Taysom Hill in multiple positions? (TE, WR, RB) Madden sure seems to have dropped the ball on this one.

They pretty much only made it to work if you use the Saints or their playbook. They have some pre-set formations and formation subs that put your QB3 at TE and Slot, and maybe HB.

Their entire player-position system is from the 1990s and should’ve been canned ages ago. That football is shifting to a sort of positionless thing like most other sports just exacerbates something they should’ve fixed 17 years ago.
      Just one man’s opinion.
I don’t actually care about any of this.

I mean the game doesn't even distinguish between an edge rushing linebacker and a stand up linebacker in the depth chart.

Not sure I agree. Just because some players and positions are blurred doesn't mean the game is positionless. You don't see DT's as deep safeties or guards taking handoffs.

if guys were just labeled as LB, DB, DL & OL and we had to place them in our system based on ratings and size how much cooler would that be. More realistic and an additional fog or war element. Has been a no-brainer for a long time.

Taysom Hill specifically also brings to mind the ATH position that is not present in madden but was in NCAA a decade ago.

At least they toned down how much ratings take a hit when moving guys around. That and the SLCB, RDE etc specialist packages both scream that they were band-aids on this trash depth chart and player-labeling system.

I've seen Gronk and Calvin Johnson play deep safety IRL, FWIW. Didn't always end well, but they had the chance.

The issue is that Madden's AI can't handle players out of position. Dopes in H2H would put wide receivers at the tight end spot because there was no way to jam them or automatically set a cornerback to guard them, as one example. The wildcat formation wrecked the AI, so they had to nerf it by preventing you from using the actual option that made it worthwhile. Defensive backs shed OL blocks so easily that people would run Dollar formation vs. heavy run sets and shut them down.

It needs the players in a certain position to conform to an archetype or the game breaks.
Bills, Sabres, Illini, Cubs, basically any team that abuses its fanbase and I'm there.

I’ll give you an example of what I’m talking about: the game requires me to carry two “LG” even if I have 13 OL, and requires me to carry two “ROLB” even if I’m carrying 12 other LBs (not to mention all the DEs who can play that position too). Why? Because they have updated this depth chart logic since madden 93.

Or how MLBs have been converted to FB multiple times around the league but LB is not a position you can put in at FB. Why? On and on with this stuff. Outdated for literal decades.

MLB The Show for years has had Primary & Secondary Positions, and Madden is far behind in that aspect given the way things are in the NFL today. If they added that in, they would have to re-do scouting and group positions together. LBs, DBs, HB,(Fullbacks would just be included in this group) and OL/DL. Then in scouting we have to unlock which would be his primary position and his secondary position.

Here's what SI said about Chargers LT Rashawn Slater: "Slater may lack the height and arm length necessary to remain at tackle for some teams, but his agility and athleticism will allow him to kick inside and be an effective player at either guard or center as the worst-case scenario.

So in that case in Madden as you scout him, your scout may say Tackle is his Secondary Position but Guard as his Primary Position. While an AI with a better scout will see his potential as a Franchise Left Tackle, etc.

Agreed on the outdated positions talk. But to the Taysom Hill point. You can kind of use him on the saints with their playbook. Sucks if you do a fantasy draft or get him thru trade. And more to that point the CPU will never use him in game or SIM in all the ways he’s really used so it kind of renders him useless unless you’re using him on the saints with their playbook.
