Draft Logic Issue. Experiences? (Online only?...offline too?)

Since there are so many bugs in this game and the information here is so all over the place and buried in numerous chains maybe we can get information regarding this in one thread.

So is this bug limited to online only?

Is it just the top picks or overall logic?

Just what are your experiences with the issue?

I simmed through multiple seasons yesterday and the falcons took a QB with every first round pick they had in the 2022, 2023 and 2024 draft. As a result the falcons QB-Room was stacked with a regressing Matt Ryan and 3 very talented young QBs burried in there.

Swami wrote on twitter today, that this is a known bug but the draft logic can not be fixed midcycle so its on their list Ford madden 23 …

After waiting for 2 month to start with a franchise this is annother huge bummer. EA needs to get their stuff together smh

This sounds like it's something that really breaks any franchise with mostly CPU teams.

I can't confirm the bad draft logic myself because I haven't played a full season yet but it does seem to be a widely known and prevalent issue.

I can confirm that Swami has indicated on several occasions that it can't be fixed this year.

The only solution seems to be playing offline with 32 team control but that brings up the issue of highly unrealistic sim stats, which may or may not get fixed this year.

Does anyone honestly, realistically expect this to be fixed for Madden 23? I mean come on. Do people think Madden 23 is going to fix this franchise, or is 23 going to launch with a ton of bugs, broken things, and they tell us to wait for their first patch to fix it all, and then into the same cycle as now.

Yep, they definitely did last year…

“When a CPU team is on the clock, they will now deprioritize drafting a first round QB if:

Their current starting QB was a 1st round pick in the last two Drafts
Their current starting QB was a 2nd/3rd round pick in the last two Drafts
And has a Normal Dev and 72+ OVR
And has Star or higher Dev trait
Their current starting QB is a 94+ OVR
Their current starting QB is 87+ OVR and 32+ years old
Their current starting QB is 74+ OVR and < 29 years old
Their current backup QB is a Star or higher Dev Trait and < 28 years old”

I don't think offline is the only option. You can always just edit some of these players to be other positions that the team drafting should have drafted. I usually go through the cpu teams every preseason and make sure they're not doing anything too stupid.

It's annoying sure, but there are things you can do to live with it and not have it ruin your franchise.

Posted this in another thread already: What about just editing the QBs of the teams who should not draft a QB before the draft and making them 99s? After the draft you can edit them back to their old values..

Just had two test runs with it. The Jets hat the No. 1 in one sim and the No.2 pick in the other... the Mock Draft had a Top 5 QB projected. In both cases the Jets did not pick the QB. So maybe this will work?

I was just about to say the same thing. I did a mini deep dive into it and the logic isn’t outright terrible. I saw some odd choices but nothing near game breaking. The one I saw that was crazy and worrisome was the Saints picked two QBs one year after picking a 1st rounder but the better one was actually a 4th round pick.

I think you can edit them safely once they stop accumulating XP and likely that last mock draft will be realistic. It’s provably good to do this before FA anyway as I did see the Jags sign a quality veteran a couple times as well. (Also, they did pile up a bunch of low rated FAs…had 9 in camp…but all but 1 was cut before the season.)

Just make a house rule for it.

(I do think this issue may be a smidge over exaggerated)

Didn't they fix draft logic midcycle before? It's a logic fix. Shouldn't be that hard.

I was just about to say the same thing. I did a mini deep dive into it and the logic isn’t outright terrible. I saw some odd choices but nothing near game breaking. If they do fix it right, that would open up trades during the draft more, etc. A team who feels no need to move up knowing teams ahead dont need a QB, is losing out because the right players arent falling correctly with the current logic. I havent dove deep enough into rds 2-7; but understand the frustration, with or without 32 team editing every draft, except for the diehard and detailed Franchise owners who dont progress as fast thru the season.

Ive tried that at the 90 rating, and eagles and jets still took a QB....so i guess i can try 99 n hope it works better than 90 idk.

We’ll see how it goes lol.

I control the Jets so I’m not taking a QB and I don’t necessarily disagree if the Eagles do. Hurts really isn’t rated great so it’s a bit justifiable. (And as an OU fan Hurts never impressed me much)
