Re: Custom Playbook in Franchise
Go to Advanced Settings as you play your game to change playbooks, once changed it should save for future games.
Unfortunately under Schemes you can only choose from one of the 32 NFL coach's playbooks, not custom or playbooks like WestCoast etc.
Because of this, you cannot seem to use Formation Subs for any custom playbooks. -
Re: Custom Playbook in Franchise
For example, if you set the scheme to a default playbook that has I Form Pro, and you also have I Form Pro in your custom, you can set formation subs for that formation, and they'll work in game. You just won't have the options to set subs for additional formations that aren't in that default playbook from that screen...you can still set form subs from the playcalling screen in-game, and they'll persist for the rest of that game.
The general advice if you're interested in using form subs with a custom playbook is to start with a default book that contains as many of the formations you plan to use as possible, rather than tearing a book down to the studs and rebuilding from scratch.
Been like this for years.Comment

You can, just only for formations that are already in the scheme of the coach you pick on the Coaching Shemes screen.

Thanks for the reminder, I actually remember doing just that on past Madden's.
Stupidly forgot, as on recent Madden's I've just cleared a playbook to bare minimum and then added plays to my liking.
Obviously plays I tried to change players in formation subs were not from default playbook I set in team schemes.Comment

Then again, I can't think of a time I've wanted to make form subs for more than a few formations here and there (a place to field a depth WR or TE to get them reps, for example).
Where I HAVE found a good use for it is with defensive playbooks when I have multiple guys at the same position that I want to use for different purposes, or when O want to run a true multiple front D, where I'll have pass rushers at both DE and LB, but also have coverage LBs I want in certain situations.
In that instance, you can use the specialist depth chart to your advantage. Like, pick a 4-3 defense as your scheme, add 3-4 front plays to it, set your pass rush LBs as the rush ends, then go manually switch guys back in the form subs you have access to...which will be the 4-3 plays.Comment

Re: Custom Playbook in Franchise
I was looking for answers on this as I had spent countless hours working with custom playbooks under 49ers “custom” book. Here I am adding all sorts of sets customized to my liking. Little did I know I just wasted all this time.
I wonder what the rhyme or reason for this is. I could understand online play or vs but offline franchise?Comment
