Difference current/new gen

Hey folks,

I have tried both versions with the 10 hours trial on my series s. Unfortunately I first played the new gen version so I really can´t say now, what the difference is. I mean it is not like FIFA, where they have new techniques and stuff on the new gen.
Now Xbox has a black friday sale, the old gen is about 41€, both versions 54€. Of course it is not a big difference, but I am already feeling guilty for giving EA my money for their laziness, so I don´t want to spend more than I need.

Is it really worth to spend the extra bucks for some "metal shines like metal"?
The xbox one version will not have any disadvantage on the roster sharing, will it?

The main MAIN difference will be that you won't be able to play vs Series S/X owners, only XB1 and XB1X owners. Also your saves, like avatar and franchise won't carry over from versions.

My suggestion is to buy the version you'll end up playing the most. Like if you have a series X or S, buy that version. If you really wanna play both because your crew will be stuck on previous Gen consoles until they can get their hands on a Series X/S, then you might wanna shell out for the "Dual Entitlement" version which gives you both versions of the game. But get ready for your wallet to groan....

As for roster sharing, I believe it'll be the same. Series X/S to Series X/S rosters, previous Gen to previous Gen. No cross play, No cross sharing.

I've played both versions since release, both on PS4 (PS4 version) and PS5 (PS4/PS5 version).

In my opinion, there was a slight difference in gameplay between the PS4 and PS5 versions before patch V1.2 was released. In the PS4 version, until then, the weight shifting with the upper body with the skillstick+left stick didn't feel as fast in the PS4 version relative to the PS5 version.

I had intense conversations with my friends at the time who didn't believe this, however they all only had the PS4 version. After some discussions and analyzing HUT matches on Twitch, they also came to the conclusion that the weight shift with the upper body was a bit more sluggish on the PS4 than on the PS5.

After patch 1.2 was released, both versions now feel absolutely identical in gameplay.

I don't care what EA has said in the past (the PS5 only has slightly better graphics, folks), or what the patch notes say. I'm convinced that when EA released NHL 22, the PS5 version was a small step ahead in stick handling physics than the PS4, but that was apparently secretly adjusted in the latest patch.

Great insight, I was looking for something like this. I own a PS5, but the one guy I play Chel with (most played mode by far) just has PS4, so looks like I should just get the PS4 version (now that they are on sale).

One thing I was wondering, from your experience, does the PS4 version load as slow on the PS5 system or the same as if it was on PS4? Last year, my menus loaded a lot faster (PS4 game) on my PS5 compared to my buddy who had PS4.

If graphical updates are that small, and now the gameplay is the same as you think you've discovered, there's probably zero benefit to PS5 for me at this point..

I didn't think about this, but it's a great point. The next gen versions may benefit from better CPU calculations for things like physics, lighting and even rendering. Those things may make slight differences in how we perceive the game to play.

ryankellz: I believe the Next Gen consoles (PS5 and Series X/S) have the game installed to an SSD drive, so it would (in theory) make the game load faster. I only save the next gen versions to the SSD however, all last gen games are installed to a normal HDD external drive. You could install last gen's version to the SSD and that would make your game load faster, even though it's the PS4 version.

The funny thing is that I watched a lot of matches on Twitch on the day of the release. All on the PS5. I was excited and couldn't wait to play the game on PS4/PS5 and was disappointed that my players didn't perform the same animations as I saw on Twitch.

At first I thought I had something wrong with the settings, but I couldn't find anything wrong. This has annoyed me very much. I spent 2 hours in free practice with Connor McDavid to get exactly the same animations as I had seen on Twitch (skill stick(l/r)+left stick)), without success. Then I got the PS5 version and immediately had this animation as I had seen it on Twitch.

From my point of view EA lied, there were differences in the stick physics. Fortunately, EA has eliminated these differences in the meantime. For this reason, go ahead and play the PS4 version. It's absolutely not worth getting the PS5 version, both versions are 100% identical. I even still find the lighting better on the PS4 than on the PS5, but that's probably a matter of taste. And the loading times ? Of course the PS5 loads faster, but we're talking about seconds here, not minutes. I'm not interested in that. I like to wait a little longer, then I can drink a sip of water in the meantime.

Thank you all so much. This is really helpful. I was not sure, if I just got used to the old gen version, but when I read your comments, I think it is not worth the extra money.
I don´t play online btw, so these differences don´t matter to me. The loading time didn´t catch my eye either. Both are pretty fast, just the connecting time to the EA servers take a very long time for me on both versions.

FYI the old gen/new gen bundle is actually cheaper right now than the new gen version, which is funny.

I have Series x and i erased next gen version, i play xbox one version, is exactly the same but :


Online you find more people to play against, in ranked game on series x i found a maximum of 70 players online, on xbox version 170.
Only for this is much better to play xbox one version.
And the next gen version have some lag in control, old gen version is more responsive

Graphics are way better on next gen for sure and gameplay speed is faster on next gen. I'm Happier on next gen anyway
