Rugby titles?
I have no idea about Rugby games. But over the years I've started watching more of the sport. There must be some game played by the community even if it's an old game modded with up to date rosters. What games should I be looking at?

Re: Rugby titles?
I lived in NZ for about 2 years and have a huge appreciation of the sport. I prefer Rugby Union over Rugby League so I recommend the older game you should try is Rugby 08, it's still modded and updated on PC. There is also a Xbox 1/PS2 version. The newest best game I think is Rugby Challenge 4. It's also being modded on PC. Rugby League 4 is also really great and a lot of people say it is the best, but again it's League Style. -

I love the idea of playing 08, EA games from then are amazing. Some of my favourite sports games are in those years. I just want something with up to date rosters though.Last edited by tinpanalley; 02-09-2022, 12:40 AM.Comment

Re: Rugby titles?
Rugby 22 is the newest release in terms of a rugby union game. It lacks Southern hemisphere licenses (Super Rugby) and lost the Premiership license, but it has been getting fairly positive reviews in terms of how it has built on its past versions.Comment

Great. I'll try it out. It's more to play a 6 Nations tournament. I saw footage of rugby 08, it would be so cool if there were mods.Last edited by tinpanalley; 02-09-2022, 12:01 PM.Comment

Re: Rugby titles?
I don't know what platform you are on but Rugby 20 is on an Xbox sale now for $10. That would allow you to get a feel for that games' mechanics without paying full price for Rugby 22. Nz Eng SA and Aus are not licensed in Rugby 20 but rest of nationals are. Premiership is in too.

But I'm not too keen on the idea of buying a sports game even for $10 just to try the mechanics.Comment

Re: Rugby titles?
Well, I assume the point being made is that it's very much not a AAA sports title, and can feel a little clunky and I'd say to some, not enjoyable. It doesn't control or feel like other major sports titles.
So far it seems like some who played Rugby 18 and 20 think it's a big step up and are enjoying it, but there's also many who have disliked it and think it's garbage. To say it's divisive would be a massive understatement.Comment

Re: Rugby titles?
I have both RC4 and Rugby 22 on PS5. Good to know what features you like most as well. Rugby 22 might have some licensed national teams, but know custom leagues that I can find, just a generic world cup setup. You also can only do 1 season with leagues in game, no traditional career mode. The career mode in game is just a card game like FUT. RC4 might have less licenses, but it does have a traditional career mode where you can do rugby 15s or 7s, and do pro league, or pro league and national team. Lots of tournies like 6 nations you can play as well. Also has fan hub, where you can download updated rosters and link with teams in game.

Re: Rugby titles?
Yet zero rating progression/regression even though it's the fourth iteration of the game. Absolute cash grab by the developers, unless gameplay itself improved (which from what I've seen it has not from RC2 or RC3).Comment

Re: Rugby titles?
Honestly the lack of career mode is perfect. I absolutely can't stand them. I'm way too old fashioned about that. I play one season at a time in every sports game with actual rosters and dont like the fantasy elements careers create. Salaries, trading that would never happen in real life. Not for me.I have both RC4 and Rugby 22 on PS5. Good to know what features you like most as well.
