    Pinpoint pitching vs the CPU

    Almost one year after it was introduced are any of you still using pinpoint vs the AI and getting realistic challenging results using default sliders on higher simulation difficulties?

    I don't use default sliders (I have control sliders and stuff way down) but I'm still using pinpoint and I'm loving it.

    It's still tough to get realistic walk numbers but it's that way whatever you use. Everything else about pinpoint is great imo.

      I have found pinpoint a bit too easy to master in it's current form. I still get semi-realistic walk results (usually close to fewest in the league, but still within reason), but I just don't seem to ever miss over the plate and give up enough hits. I'm hoping it's tweaked a bit this year because I love the idea of the mechanic

          I can't remember right now but I think it's like 2/0. I'll double check next time I play and confirm.

            With default sliders the CPU doesn't stand a chance, with pinpoint pitching (like said above "too easy to master". I only occasionally will walk someone if I'm playing with quick counts and not paying attention. Otherwise, it's strike out city for the opposition. Still so glad pinpoint pitching finally made it to the show, it was my favorite feature of the 2k games.

              Are you using 0 human control and human 0 consistency ?

                Im not sure. Whatever the game is defaulted at. I just choice dynamic difficulty at the initial start and just roll with it. Usually doesn't take me long to progress to hall of fame difficulty for pitching.

                  For the OP - have you considered Competitive mode? I know it and Casual are regarded as dirty words around these parts, but the thing is that the thresholds for getting perfect accuracy in pinpoint are significantly smaller than on Simulation.

                  Case in point, on Simulation I can throw a 4-seam fastball with Kyle Hendricks in practice mode, and get a "perfect" result (meaning all the measuring components turn blue on pitch release) while hitting as low as 80% on the first measurement - as long as the other two parts of the pitch are considered perfect. On competitive, that threshold seems to be 90% - meaning it's easier to throw an inaccurate pitch on comp if I mess up the stick motion. There are, of course, thresholds for perfect pitch qualification on the other two measurements too, but I just find the first one to be the easiest one to use for pointing out something like this.

                  This goes along with the game's claim that competitive is the more "skill-driven" mode - you're penalized easier for a bad input. Pinpoint is HEAVILY influenced by how good the user is on the sticks, so it would make sense if competitive would be the best mode to use with that interface if you're looking for a challenge.

                  If you already 100% all of the motions.....this will probably not change anything for you. The difference between the modes here is how forgiving the mechanic is, so it's not going to make things tougher on you if you've already mastered it to that degree.

                  I know that changing to competitive means changing a lot more than just the forgiveness of a pitching meter though, and that's where I would suggest playing a few games on the setting to see how it feels across the whole game. Personally I don't notice a lot of difference in Sim vs Competitive when I'm playing at a challenging difficulty level, but I do feel as though my controller skills do have more impact on the outcome of a game (good or bad). So I'm simply suggesting to try it out and see if you like it.
