Good to see Hudson Card have a solid senior send-off against Houston. I'm sure it was tough for him to sit behind Klubnik when he could've went elsewhere and started, so to be able to have that kind of performance in a NY6 bowl is great. Moss was superb as well, and Weems did Weems things - 17 touchdowns as a freshman TE is just ridiculous!

Great job landing the #3 recruiting class - of course the only two schools ahead of you are SEC schools as well. Leake should good to take over for Klubnik after his graduation, and Phillips could challenge Moss for carries right away, especially since the latter lost points in training. Is Leake the only backup you have for Klubnik at the moment?

He took quite a big jump, but I think he deserved it based on his play in the later part of the season.

Card had his ups and downs but like you say I was really pleased with how he played in both the SEC Championship and the bowl game, in the end it gave our season a decent finish.

Weems, is just Weems there isn't anything else to say about him other than that #Weemsthings will be in full show next season.

The recruiting restrictions meant we couldn't go after any 5-Star players last season or I would happily have said we'd have taken home the #1 class. I am hoping we can next season, but until we're back to a 6-star school (3 going into next season) we rely heavily on five-stars being from Texas and having us listed No.1. I think Moss and Phillips will definitely be a 1-2 punch next season, and as you say Phillips could even become the main ball carrier but we will have to wait and see on that front. We got a juvo QB in recruiting, but I have used the editor to make him a senior and real life Texas QB Cole Lourd who would be a senior going into the 2025 season in real life. For some reason when I took over Texas there was only 2 QBs on the Roster.

Re: Tearz49ers Presents: This Is Texas (CFB Revamped)

In just one season under Russell Warner the Texas Longhorns went from 1-11 to 11-3 and capped off the season with a 37-20 victory over Houston in the Sugar Bowl.

To show you how far the Longhorns came under Warner and his coaching staff you just have to look at their offense. In 2023 Texas ranked 114th in the country for Total Offense whereas in 2024 they ranked 38th, many expected the Longhorns to make a jump under their offense-minded coach but nobody expected them to make it so quickly.

Thankfully for Texas, neither of their two coordinators in Jay Norvell (OC) and Andy Avalos (DC) were snatched up by other schools this off-season so the Longhorns come into the 2025 season with the same coaching staff on all fronts.

Previewing the Texas Offense in 2025:

Cade Klubnik returns under center as many expected, the now senior's season was cut short with a shoulder injury towards the end of last year and up until this point we haven't seen him throw the ball after surgery. Klubnik finished last season with a QB rating of 163.8, he passed for 3152 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions in what started out to be a slow junior campaign. Klubnik's backup from last season was Hudson Card who has now since departed the program, this year that will fall on the shoulders of true-freshman Clayton Leake.

Texas came into last season with high hopes for Le'Veon Moss after an impressive freshman season and the former four-star recruit didn't disappoint after rushing for 1536 yards and 13 touchdowns, however, Moss slowed down at points during last season and you can contribute that to the fact he was the Longhorns sole ball carrier with 300 rushing attempts, that statistic ranked 4th most in college football last season. Moss will not have the same issue in 2025 as Texas added Naeem Phillips to their roster, a four-star prospect out of Carrollton, Texas who many expect to see a 1-1 split on carries next season. The Longhorns lost their second-leading rusher from last season in Ezell Jolly to the transfer portal and Baylor.

The best player returning to the Texas offense this season is Xander Weems, the tight end blew onto the scene as a true freshman with 17 touchdown receptions, there is no question that Weems is the best tight end in college football right now and we expect him to only improve as a sophomore. Along with Weems, Jaivon Ramsey returns after catching 55 passes for 1006 yards and 5 touchdowns last season, the only question behind those two will be whether Jaden Alexis and Yardley Gibson can really become that third receiving option for Klubnik. Jaden Alexis showed potential last season catching 32 passes for 539 yards and 3 touchdowns, however, those numbers do not really scream that he is capable of being that #2 guy at receiver. The talented freshman combination of Jaleel Solomon and Daniel Ogletree seems to have both escaped the redshirt and will see playing time as true-freshman, how much? Well, that will depend on their ability to contribute at this level.

The biggest loss for the Texas offense comes along the offensive line with three out of the five starting players now gone with only guards Cole Hutson and Neto Umeozulu returning this year with significant playing experience. The new line will see freshman Tai'yon Carty (RT) and Doug Gudino (C) jump straight into the starting lineup. Kam Dewberry will start protecting Klubnik's blindside and the now junior did start 3 games as a true freshman in 2023 but sat behind Logan Parr last season.

Previewing the Texas Defense in 2025:

The Longhorns defense last season just went from strength to strength under Andy Avalos and finished ranked 14th best on defense in all of college football and the scary part for incoming opponents this season is this defense only lost Vernon Broughton and Jaylan Ford to the NFL or Graduation.

Omari Abor returns after winning the Lombardi trophy last season and leading the NCAA in sacks with 13.5 and he will once again team up with junior Ernest Cooper IV to give the Longhorns two scary pass rushers at defensive end. The only question along the defensive line will be who stars inside of those two, Byron Murphy II is the most senior out of the options and did record 3 sacks last season but redshirt freshman Nicho Boudreaux and Thomas Trussell give the Longhorns longevity at the position and on paper are more exciting prospects for this Texas defense heading into the new season.

Anthony Hill returns after earning All-NCAA first-team All-American honors last season and the team's defensive captain will once again lead the line for this dominant Texas defense. Hill played inside with Isaiah Carlson last season when the Longhorns switched up their defense inside this Multiple Scheme, but incoming true freshman Kahlee Chapman has now taken over that role after a dominant spring camp. Lewis Carter led the Longhorns in tackles two seasons ago, but a sophomore slump would see him drop in production and Andy Avalos will need to get the now junior back up to scratch in 2025, joining Carter on the outside is another true freshman in converted safety Mikel Sutton. Sutton was asked to add weight this off-season and he obliged added 15 pounds giving the 6-3 and now 203lbs player more of a linebacker frame.

The absolute steal for Texas this off-season was the fact that each of their five starting cornerbacks returned for their senior season. Travis Hunter, Jaylon Guilbeau, and Denver Harris will lead the line at the corner position for Texas this season and when you throw in safeties B.J. Allen Jr. and Nick Johnson these five will form the most formidable defensive backfield in all of college football this season. Hunter and Guilbeau are bonified day one draft picks and with these two monsters on the outside the Longhorns defense can 100% lock it down this season.

            What Will Happen, Season Prediction:

Texas was fortunate that their graduating class of 2024 didn't leave them with any questions and that is why we will only see this squad improve in the 2025 season. The Longhorns come into pre-season ranked for the first time in five years sitting at #14. However, Texas must end a seven-year wait for a win over Oklahoma if they are really going to be playoff contenders this season, with #14 Texas and #12 Oklahoma going head to head in week seven.

The Longhorns have five of the nation's top 25 teams on their schedule this season in #21 Arkansas, #10 LSU, #4 Florida, #12 Oklahoma, and #6 Clemson.

I have 19 outgoing seniors, with another 12 juniors however, I only really see maybe 2, possibly 1 of those with NFL-ready talent so I am going to assume I have the potential to hand out 20 scholarships to players this season.

The board currently has 21 players on it and this will change as the season goes on as I shuffle the board around depending on who I prefer and who I don't. I have only scouted each player 25%, and I will continue to add to that as the season goes on depending on if I have points to spend. Please bear in mind, these overalls are based on that 25% scouting range and will either go up or down as the year goes along.

All of the five-star recruits have Texas listed No.1 in pre-season and are from the state of Texas, however that could change as we move into week one, if it does then they will be dropped from the board and replaced with another player.

I don't see the value in adding 1 and 2-star players to the board, it just clogs it up and the game will always throw these players into your team anyway as "walkons".

There is no doubt about that. I currently have 5 on the board, but we will be looking at more as the weeks go on. The main focus is on CB, anything else is extra this recruiting cycle.

The 2024 College Football season provide us all with a shock when the Miami Hurricanes came out of the land of the unranked in pre-season to finish the season with a win over Florida in the National Championship game to lift their first title since 2001.

With the 2025 season slated to start on Tuesday, August 26th when Akron travels to Arizona to face the Wildcats we are now just around the corner from another thrilling College Football season, and we can now take a look at the Top 5 teams in the country and the rest according to ESPN.

Miami came into 2024 ranked No. 36 in the nation but that didn't stop the Hurricanes from brushing off each and every single opponent (Other than Pittsburgh) throughout the season to win it all with a 21-16 win over #1 Florida in the title game.

The Hurricanes will have to do it all again this season without winner Jake Garcia under center. Garcia was formidable in the Hurricanes' unbeaten season going on to win both the Maxwell and O'Brien awards along with finishing 5th in the Heisman race. Replacing Garcia will be redshirt-junior Jacurri Brown, a former four-star prospect from the class of 2023. Brown is yet to make a single start at the collegiate level and that could be worrisome for the Maimi faithful in an offense that also lost its two starting tailbacks. The offense still contains two pre-season All-Americans along the offensive line in Jalen Rivers and Laurance Seymore.

Miami's defense, like its offense, lost a lot of talent. Four out of its top five leading tacklers from 2024 are now gone, however, Wesley Bissainthe returned after recording 84 tackles and 5.5 sacks as a redshirt sophomore. Marvis Jones Jr. and Thomas Davis are both solid pass rushers at the end position and Rueben Bain was a freshman All-American.

Oregon comes into the 2025 season ranked as the nation's No. 2 team. Oregon's two losses in 2024 came against Kansas and Washington, the latter went on to win the Pac-12 and made it into the playoffs. The Ducks capped off their 2024 season with a 17-0 win over Michigan State in the Rose Bowl.

Sophomore Jaden Rashada will be the new signal-caller for the Ducks after Jay Butterfield left for the NFL. Rashada could well be the best quarterback Oregon has ever had if his attributes translate to on-field play. Trey Benson who rushed for 1277 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior gives Oregon a solid ball rusher and look for Benson to really make a difference for the Ducks this season. The offensive line has nothing but experience with all five starters returning for their senior campaigns, led by 1st team All-American Jaylan Jeffers at right tackle.

Oregon's defense will once again be led by linebacker Jake Shipley and the Ducks will be thankful to have him back after losing Justin Flowe. Emar'Rion Winston was the Ducks leading sacker last season with 5.5, however this defense really did struggle to apply pressure to opposing quarterbacks in 2024 and must improve this season if the Ducks really are contenders!

Washington won the Pac-12 and that was largely down to the play of Sam Adams II. The running back rushed for 1688 yards and 15 touchdowns as a junior and returns this season as a heavy favorite to win the Heisman. Adams will once again be receiving handoffs from Sam Haurd. Haurd tossed 27 touchdown passes as the Huskies made it into the playoffs in 2024 but Washington head coach Jimmy Lake has already come out and said he needs more from his senior quarterback if the Huskies will want to go one better than last season.

Washington's defense comes in as the weakest of the nation's top 5 teams on paper but that doesn't mean the Huskies are void of talent. Anthony Lucas is a stud at defensive tackle and safety Jaylin Marshall is the impact player this defense needs. At linebacker though is where the Huskies will struggle, freshman Eric Dixon is just ok, and junior Khristopher Levy isn't much better. Caleb Boselli, the sophomore will need to play way above his age this season.

Florida was the best team in College Football last season there is no question about that, but the Gators seemed to buckle in the national championship game against Miami and that is why they didn't win it all after finishing the regular season unbeaten.

Carlos Delrio-Wilson will be tasked with improving on Anthony Richardson's 2024 campaign with Richardson now departed. Wilson isn't as well-rounded as Richardson was and is more of a runner than a passer, and sadly for the Gators Wilson is their only viable option under center this season. Trevor Etienne is the best running back in College Football, the senior is the preseason favorite to win the Heisman after rushing for 1107 yards and 21 touchdowns as a junior. At receiver, the Gators are spoilt for choice. Deyon Bouie, Marcus Burke, Isaiah Bond could start on any team in College Football and then you throw in Evan Stewart and true freshman Jordan Jones you have 5 NFL ready pass catchers for Wilson to throw at.

Justyn Rhett will be tasked with filling a hole left by Ethan Pouncey at corner and that will not be an easy task, Pouncey led the NCAA with 8 interceptions last season. Tyreak Sapp returns as the Gators leading tackler, he also led the team in sacks with 6 as a junior.

Ohio State closes out the 2025 pre-season top five after winning the Big Ten again last season. The Buckeyes may have lost out to Miami in the playoffs but the Buckeyes return in 2025 as the most well-rounded team on paper.

Quin Ewers is just another Ohio State quarterback that will eventually be a 1st round pick at the next level. Ewers threw for 3055 yards and 23 touchdowns last season after taking over from C.J. Stroud. Evan Pryor is now gone, and Tre Wisner is as good of a replacement as you will find. Wisner had 1027 yards and 11 touchdowns as Pryor's backup last season. Emeka Egbuka and Armani Winfield will give Ewers brilliant deep ball targets.

Ohio State's secondary contains two of the top 5 corners in College Football in Jakailin Johnson and Jaheim Singletary, and sophomore Jacobe Johnson is no slouch either. C.J. Hicks returns as the team's most senior linebacker and he will be joined by junior Reid Carrico once again as the Buckeyes look to make another push for their second national title in 3 years.

I was going to say if you lost to that QB to open the season, that would have been a huge disappointment.

                            *************

Starkville, Mississippi -- Cade Klubnik returned to the Texas starting lineup after an off-season recovering from a shoulder injury, and the senior quarterback was impressive, to say the least as he tossed five touchdown passes in the Longhorns 56-21 win over Mississippi State Saturday afternoon.

Klubnik finished the game with a 232.7 passer rating, throwing for 333 yards, five touchdowns without mistake.

"That was important for Cade," Texas head coach Russell Warner said after the game. "He's been limited somewhat this spring and whilst we remained confident he would go out there and perform, there is always that slight doubt in your mind after your quarterback has surgery."

Mississippi State (0-1, 0-1) must have missed the memo where it stated to double cover Xander Weems. The sophomore tight end was able to snag three touchdowns in the win along with 93 yards on 8 receptions. Weems is already starting off the 2025 season how he left off the 2024 season with 17 touchdowns receptions. Weems wasn't the only tight end to find the endzone today, true freshman LaDarius Turrentine, who many liken to Weems in so many ways caught two passes, both for touchdowns.

"We have six guys on offense capable of scoring on any play," Texas offensive coordinator Jay Norvell said. "All Cade has to do is find one of these guys open and they have the ability to take it to the house."

It is really too early to tell but the Longhorns running attack looked so much better today with two ball carriers. Le'Veon Moss was able to sit out when it was needed with true freshman Naaem Philips coming in. Moss in fact finished the game with one less carry than Philips (14-15) as Texas pulled their starters going into the fourth quarter. Philips rushed for two touchdowns in the win. There was even time in the fourth quarter for another freshman to steal a little limelight, Clayton Leake's first-ever collegiate pass, and his only pass in the game went for an 18-yard touchdown to Turrentine.

Levitcus Su'a who was benched after this game last season had somewhat of a redemption game. The junior linebacker came up big with two fumbles, one on defense late on in the fourth quarter, and one on special teams which set up the Longhorns for a second consecutive score in the second quarter. The Longhorn's defense held the Bulldogs to just 52 yards on the ground in what was expected to be a very run-focused Bulldogs offense.

Mississippi State's quarterback situation isn't exactly pretty on paper but the Bulldogs faithful may feel more at ease after the play of redshirt sophomore Darren Schultz against a Longhorns defense that finished last season ranked 31st in the country against the pass. Schultz was 20-of-29 for 235 yards and tossed 1 touchdown pass to Noah Rogers.

Next week, Texas (1-0, 1-0) returns home to Austin to play host to Ole Miss (0-1, 0-1). The Rebels come into the game off the back of a 42-28 loss to #11 Oklahoma.

Surprisingly, for a quarterback rated just 69 overall, he played well above his rating. If the Bulldogs had anything else on offense then I really feel like this would have been close to a slipup because Schultz really had the Bulldogs offense moving early.
