Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I know Shams is usually great but idk about this.
His athletic article talking about Nurse also mentions that Nurse is under contract for 2 more years. Basically Lakers would need permission from the Raptors they would need something in return, Nurse would almost have to ask out.. Seems a little unlikely as he also coaches team Canada I believe? Seems as he is fine where he is at.
Same article mentions Indiana as a possible Westbrook trade partner. I know Pelinka didn't want to make a trade at the deadline because Westbrook as an expiring + two first round picks they will have this off-season was far more attractive than any deadline move. And for Indiana it does make some sense, Hield + Brogdon for an expiring gives them tons of cap space after next season. Can likely resign Turner, lock up Haliburton, and sign some big free agents.. In theory Haliburton + Westbrook also isn't much different than Haliburton + Brogdon or Haliburton + Fox, so even if they didn't want to waive/buyout Westbrook 1 year of him wouldn't be much different than what they were already doing.. But I would imagine they could get younger pieces/better picks from other teams.
Plus if the Lakers have to move a pick to get Nurse that leaves them with only 1 pick to facilitate the trade.
idk, I know it's Shams but it all seems like a long shot to me.Comment

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
He and Westbrook have already been unfairly made scapegoats all year long. With that said I don't think Frank was a great coaching fit at all for the direction the team headed after the 2020 season. But it's one of those questions you have every time a coach is let go, who do you get that is better? Nurse is great but unrealistic, so where does that leave them?Comment

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
I don't want any coach dumb enough to take the job without Westbrook being traded beforehand.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread
What's funny about the whole situation there is Westbrook has been the only player (at least from behind closed doors) to have an issue with Frank. Supposedly he clashed with Fizdale too. And the Lakers basically just humiliated Frank. Assuming they fix some things it'll be an enticing job because you have a chance to win (given health) but heading into the off-season as is that would not be a job I had interest in. And for the life of me I can't understand why Rambis seems to have input.
I guess you also never know until you get to this point, but in hindsight the Lakers could have hired Kidd and Dudley this past year if Frank wasn't for them. Front office has been a bit all over the place.Comment

Re: 2022 Offseason Thread

They can say what they want, Nurse isn't gonna leave. He's set as Raptors coach, has great relationship with higher ups, and is the coach of Canadas national team too. Don't think he'd move on from that, especially from a team that has many young players and can improve on this current season (which already exceeded expectations).
Reminds me of the Masai to Wizards/Knicks rumors. Clearly they were just rumors because he stayed.Comment
