    That’s it for me

I’ve played this game for 16 years. I’ve had a lot of fun. I’ve won a few championships, threw three no hitters, and I’ve had players win multiple awards. I’ve been a member of OS since 2011 when I had a different user name. I’ve learned a lot from people on this site and always looked forward to the camaraderie of individuals who enjoy baseball gaming as much as I used to. The Show is the only game I play, it’s actually the only game I’ve owned in a long time. But it’s time for me to put this down.

I’ve lost any and all enjoyment in this game and I’m not exactly sure how or when that happened. It’s not the game either. It’s just me. It’s this constant changing slider’s, levels, restarting my franchise repeatedly. It truly doesn’t make any sense. I’m not even really sure what it is I’m looking for. This has been taking place since 2020. Long gone seem to be the days of me just starting my franchise, changing pitch speed only, if that and playing the full season. I’m not sure what caused this but certainly it’s drained me of any enjoyment of the game. And it sucks.

I’ve had some great memories and teams and some of both I’d just rather forget. I wish you all luck this season and with your experience with the show!

Sounds like you've just outgrown the show or maybe even video games in general. It happens in many different aspects as we age. All good things come to an end. At least you have 16 years of memories.

If you happen to have an Xbox or PS2, Major League Baseball 2K5 is quite underrated and is most enjoyable. And hopefully you have an old CRT because it looks absolutely marvelous on one..

I hear you tho, I've been a Show guy for ten years and often wish there were other options. Even though I really like 22.

You can request a name change, just has to be approved and done by whoever does those. I had mine changed years ago. Really want go again to match my PSN but just never get around to requesting it.

I was going to say about the same thing. Idk how old he is or if he has kids etc. But a lot of guys do outgrow video games in general, or due to lack of time to play find it difficult to come back a d play regularly even when we do find time to play. As an old pastor of mine used to say, it's harder to get back up on the saddle then it is to fall off.

It could be that you just grew out of gaming - certainly playing just one game series for however long is going to burn out at some point, but this portion:

                    stands out to me most.

What's going on in your game that leads you to constantly changing sliders and difficulty levels? I know you said you're not sure what you're looking for, but if you can answer that it might help resolve whatever issues you're having too.

Sounds like you might be too focused on having a "perfect" experience every time you play? That's obviously not a realistic goal and would wear on you after a while too.

Video games aren't what they used to be, maybe it's just getting older that makes them less interesting. Maybe you're looking to fulfill a purpose or something🤷*♂️🤷*♂️🤷*♂️ try new hobbies or if it's not gaming in general that you're disillusioned with try a new genre of games besides sports.

I try not to get invested in sliders. I get why people do but I just pretend they aren't there and play the game as is and try to learn how each game plays. I feel like if I really got into the slider game I'd get really peculiar and it'd drive me crazy.

People outgrow things though, too. I used to love heavy metal music, the heavier the better. Now, I'm like into heartbreak country music lol it's weird, people change.

Reading this I was cringing because you never know how the pack will turn, surprising the pack has been quite supporting.

I am experiencing this too, in a sense. I am now an empty nester and always thought when my kids were gone I'd have all this time, but I don't. I think too is that I just don't get wowed as easily. Getting a PS5 was, meh. Great machine but not mindblowing to me like the PS2 was back in the day. Gaming has become something I may do sometime during the weekend, maybe.

It's just strange getting older, life grinds you down and it sux that it isn't as easy to get excited about anything. So I don't have much to offer as advice just the assurance that misery loves company and you're not alone.

                              Re: That’s it for me

I nearly did the same thing in 2018 with this series. I had been bogged-down by all the minutiae (sliders, waiting for rosters, etc). I was tired, frustrated and just not having fun.

On a total lark, I started playing Diamond Dynasty (just offline). Oh man, what a breath of fresh air it was....All the hang-ups I had were moot. I didn't have to worry about rosters. I didn't have to worry about sliders. I didn't have to worry about deficient AI. I just started playing the game again (and still using my normal 'clean screen' method). But a funny thing happened, I started genuinely having fun again. I played DD all summer and had a ball. I realized how good the game was without the endless tinkering so many people in here get bogged-down by.

I started a new franchise late that cycle and made it to the trade deadline (furthest I had ever gotten). 2019, I played all-162 for the first time. 2020 played 2+ full seasons (every game)...so on and so on. DD helped me get over the inane minutiae.

I'm not saying all this to say "you should do this too". But rather to simply say, I've been there.

But the most important thing you can do is have fun and if you're not having fun, don't play. Life is too short to do something you're not enjoying.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.
