Im Crazy, but I keep going back to NHL Legacy!...why!?

I know its odd, and I must be a nut with all the newer hockey games that recently came out since,....but i just find myself going back to NHL Legacy for some reason!

The players and animations are so smooth and realistic pace. Shooting, passing, checking, spacing between players and working the puck around the ice are just so well balanced and poportioned vs anything else that has came out since. Game is just all around solid for me.....thoughts? Whats the deal breaker with this version? Come on, theres always something

Nhl 14-Legacy certainly are good games that I enjoy from time to time (even though my personal favourite is NHL04 Rebuilt). They just feel like pretty complete games. Things I do not like is the cpu being too passive at times and (just like all EA's NHL games) the individual players feeling not different enough. All in all though it certainly is a good - maybe even very good - game!

Though I also think they feel so good because the ps4/ps5 versions of the series - at least offline - are so boring. The Ai offensively always just skates into the slot and shoots, be a pro is poorly made and there is not even a basic tournament mode where I can play with whatever teams ai want... So much potential wasted unfortunately.

Just curious what was nhl legacy and how did it differ from their yearly release? Did it have franchise mode?

I am so mad I do not have a ps3 anymore

It’s just NHL 14 with a roster update. They just called it legacy because NHL 15 was a way different game that year, also believe they only sold it for 20-30 bucks

For me it’s NHL Legacy (NHL 16!) not 14.

Probably because the modes are way deeper and the AI are objectively better at most aspects of the sport than their 8 year younger counterparts. Guess hockey bags and the Michigan didn’t make the game a better experience after all. Bummer, thought those two things alone were going to give us that complete experience we’ve all wanted.

For me it’s NHL Legacy (NHL 16!) not 14.

If I'm not mistaken, it was in this version back the ability to create their own players and change the composition of teams.

Would love to go back and play it but then I need to buy an older system since i only have a ps5. Then I need to find the game for a decent price. So many obstacles

One thing I loved about it was the ability to customize arena music to exactly what the NHL were like... From Goal music, BIP ditties, PP and PK music, I had every arena exact and that was definitely a great aspect of the game. That's even before I talk about the gameplay which for the ps3, was solid! It seemed more faces were on the game, it was just an all around great game that felt pretty good on release day...

This is my favorite edition! Was very pleased to see the return of a mode there, NHL Moments Live, which reenacts iconic games from last season. It sort of asks the player, "Can you repeat history?" Tasks are certainly not easy - about the following: make a hat trick for Alexander Ovechkin and pull off a bad game, or, for example, go out for the goalie and play a "dry" game. But how good you feel after you've accomplished this task.

This is my favorite edition!
I was very happy to see the return of the NHL Moments Live mode, which replays iconic games from last season. For me, as a writer who is willing write my papers to https://writemypapers4me.net/ this mode is indispensable. It sort of asks the player, "Can you repeat a story?" The tasks, of course, are not easy - something like this: make a hat trick for Alexander Ovechkin and pull off a bad game, or, for example, go out for the goalie and play a "dry" game. But how good you feel after you've accomplished the task.

Oh, and also, I personally really like the inclusion of the On-Ice Trainer, which puts control sentences over the head of the player you control. Helping you further is the cues shown between periods and after each game. You are given a grade based on how well you played on the ice, and the "coach" gives you tips and advice. But at the same time, it can be more helpful with his constructive criticism.

It's playable using RPCS3 on your PC.

My issue with the newer games is the lack of AI puck cycling. The AI will always try to play the puck through the middle and attack central once in the zone. NHL 2K10, NHL 11 and NHL 19 which I've been playing recently for example the AI will cycle the puck well with variety once you pop difficulty and AI learning up. The other thing that's good is the passing sliders in those games will actually help reduce the AI to 60, 70% success rate. NHL 21 and NHL 22 even with 0 passing slider set the AI will nearly always have 85-90%.

If Legacy had a working penalty system it would be an almost perfect hockey game but sadly the lack of penalty calls unless you play 12-20 minute periods is game breaking.

I like like the little bounces and ping pong they've added with Frostbite in 22 though. The physics and puck at least feel hockey like even if the AI is still pretty generic and boring.

NHL 15 was also released on 360 / PS3. Legacy is basically NHL 16. Compared to 14, it has a little bit polished gameplay (jumping puck on dumpins, monster hits taken care off) and have the new rules (3 on 3 OT, hybrid icing) after the patch.

Also Doc Emrick and Eddie Olczyck as commentary, which was a downgrade obviously.

Not sure if it's still available, but 1.5 years ago, I bought it digitally on the PS store for PS3. Not sure if that's still running (unlikely).
