To all my TRUE randoms players, how has the rec treated you this year?

When i say TRUE random players i mean players who over half their games in rec are with randoms and players who rarely ever play with a squad.

As this year comes to an end i feel like rec was fun with randoms but i still wish CPU teammates shot a higher % from 3.

The builds that became meta this year were pretty fun to play with and against.

My biggest comment on playing with randoms is there just absolutely NEEDS to be a segregation system or a random rank/stat that at least acknowledges and broadcasts your skill level when playing with randoms. As of now running in park/rec by yourself is still fun but there’s no merit or reason to do so. Maybe give Xp boosts for winning with players you’ve never met before, which would encourage ppl actually playing good. Idk. Just needs to be SOMETHING for guys like me who really are done with having my mic on all the time and waiting 45 mins for the right 5 to be on, and then 30 mins in between games because someone has to go or change their badges

It wasn’t that bad when I got put with randoms that actually pass the ball. Had annoying moments where my team or the opposing team would get down 7-10 points and randoms on either side would immediately start quitting out or sabotaging the game. I never understood why people did that, I’ve had rec games this year where I’ve helped spark a 15-20 point comeback. The meta was annoying and sometimes unbearable but mostly it was something I contained enough, depending on my build, and with tweaks I’d run with randoms more in 2K23.

Almost forgot, didn’t like the zone and how people played it but alot of that is game mechanics.

Outside of playing majority of the games against full squads , it was pretty fun.

Cpu needs a serious boost though.
They are making ******** fouls and its even worse when they dont even know their own shot.
How does one program AI to have a very early release on a wide open shot????

AI on wide open shots need to be a perfect release every single time depending on their rating.

Even the AI after someone quits is mentally challenged.
AI is a playmaking shot with hof badges yet can barely get a proper release….

Its frustrating and not worth sticking around if the squad are douches that triple team you without even having the ball…

Here for the comments. I dabbled this year, but I didn't play it as my main mode.

What would help the most would be for 2K to get the pullup/off-the-dribble/stepback 3-point percentages under control. Whenever I played with 4 randoms that didn't have someone hunting for stepback 3s the whole possession, I had a pretty good experience overall. You'd still have some ballhogs, people not playing defense on their man, never looking into the post, etc. But those are things I can live with. Some people are new to the game, or even the sport of basketball itself, and just don't know any better. I'm sure I've done some monumentally stupid things in FIFA Pro Club before and not even realized it.

Usually, those kinds of things lead to bad results and you can point those out to a player and convince them to play in a more team-focused way. The problem with the people spamming stepback 3s is that it's often successful. If you get someone who's really good at doing it, it's actually a much more efficient offense than moving the ball around and playing the "right way." But it's boring and frustrating as Hell to play with/against. It usually boils down to standing in the corner on offense watching, and then jogging to the defensive end to guard the guy standing in the corner watching.

If they would just lower the efficiency of these shots, it would incentivize ball movement and actually trying to work together for a better shot. I know for me personally, just having more possessions where I'm touching the ball and feel engaged in what the team is doing, regardless of how many shots attempts I end up with, the better the experience.

Re: To all my TRUE randoms players, how has the rec treated you this year?

On CG/LG: it was pretty good. I run rando, but I also run with my friend PG. Big + PG. Not enough to W always because he's a true PG not a dribble gawd, so it depends on how the other players behave.

As the year went on, tho, it seems like now it's getting super toxic, but to be fair I have started trolling a lot harder. People are playing way worse, so I am doing way more fist pumps. I def give people leeway to make mistakes, and I'm in there getting all the orebs I can, but when people just do some absolutely stupid stuff like explode out of the triple threat out of bounds, etc, or just come in to help over and over off the corner... I def trigger people, and I understand why it's somewhat more toxic, but otoh, I feel like some people understand my pump language and we have been able to communicate with them. Basically, if people aren't true selling and I'm not playing w/ a bunch of quitters vs a squad, I/we do OK.

I think my record has dipped below 50% overall tho because I have been taking massive losses lately because people won't play the game. Nobody knows how to play within a scheme and they don't understand that a good pg + a good big should be able to handle everything except people taking shots, and they can dribble around if they want, just not for 18 seconds.

For instance, people getting a shot clock violation is always a fist pump, or passing to me with like 2 seconds left. haha. But yeah, I feel big is super powerful this year. I wonder if any 2k league teams run a 7'3 guy. That is really underrated. Mind blowingly, if your defense is more of a scheme than man2man.

Def feels good to be big. Mouse is really wonderful, but body blocks... not so much. lol or egregious snatch blocks. I work for my blocks and get them out of the air.

I also enjoy playing my PF shooting/post big. So yea I enjoy the game a lot, but the personalities of people can be tough sometimes.

All they need to do is to seperate randoms from full squads.

If they do REC would be so much better....

Today 5 games with 4 being against full squads with me being the only user left in the 2nd quarter with mentally challenged AI.

This is the first game where i just end up quitting to find another match.
0 reason to even finish the game...

correction make that 6 out of 5 with this being against the same freaking squad.

It generally took me awhile to get into a Rec game because I’d bail if my teammates’ stats were F’s across the board or if it was obvious they didn’t pass. But that also resulted in having enjoyable games pretty much every time I got into one, and I very much appreciated how few full squads I had to deal with when solo queuing. Across the hundreds of games I played this year, I reckon less than 10 were against full squads (when solo queuing that is; once I added even one friend to my party it was against a full squad more often than not).

You simply shouldn’t be able to search rec with a squad.

But with that said it appears as if most the time i search solo, it’s usually not a whole 5

They definitely need to add a filter that lets you bypass people with F teammate grades. I always back out when I see that.

Yea they definitely need to at least match make by teammate grade. Tired of playing with people who drop in the 1st quarter.

Played 1 game by accident with randoms and was reminded why I haven't queued solo since 2k17. Luckily we won the game but it was ROUGH. It's been Full 5's the whole year for me. If a solid team wasn't on, I stayed in park or the 1v1 market.

That's good to hear. That was one of my pet peeves for NBA 2K20, and it was the number of full squads that I came against.

Nah, it's cool. Nothing is wrong with random bums. I say bums, but you know what I mean, they might be kids, they might be adults who just enjoy the game, whatever, people who aren't really BALLERS or people who make wild mistakes, we can all laugh at that and be like son! It sucks to lose, but it's nowhere close to the same as toxicity.

Main dude I been running w/ will be like sec sometimes, maybe he gotta grab something or do something real quick DURING A GAME. In older 2ks, you'd get kicked v fast for that, not anymore.

They need to massively blast people's teammate grade for a lot of 'antics.' In fact, it'd be hilarious to turn them into tech fouls and kick people after 2. If you sit at 3 point line for consecutive defensive possessions (like not coming down) that's a tech. Other team scores with you running out of bounds, tech. You mash the ball from the cpu and dribble for 20 seconds, tech. 3 seconds twice in a row when people are setting up O? Tech! You can't really prevent selling but getting rid of people just not playing would be a great start. Def wanna see harsher teammate grades.

They need to separate bad shots, too. You should lose a big teammate grade if you take an awful shot, but if you get it on the rim and your teammate gets it, "Kobe assist!" It should maybe even give a lil bonus for that, or at least a much lower hit, cuz sometimes you gotta force a shot and the rebound is all but guaranteed.

Edit: my 1 rage thing, other than fist pumping, is double triangle from the inbound. lol the big is just leaving guys open for 3... over and over... I finally get it, I'm rocketing that thing all the way to the other baseline.
