Me too, I usually get an Xbox code but I can’t complain. Unfortunately it’s going to be Chel and 1v1v1 nonsense. Wish it was more of a beta like fifa and madden

Can you use real teams and play games or do you just make your guy and play pond hockey again ?

World of Chel is the only game mode available.

Make your guy and play pro-am, threes eliminator, ones eliminator, eashl drop-in, and eashl clubs.

It's pond hockey again, no option for even a practice mode. I made this point last year too but they didn't even put in the effort to update the awful score bug again. Same menus as last year. Same menu music as the last 5 years. Same horrid commentary (shouting) from Cybulski. What do they even spend a whole dev cycle on? It's absolutely shameful. This is honestly a slap in the face to anyone who just wants to play a solid game of hockey rather than chel it up top cheese with their friends. Same pig as last year (and 2 years ago, etc.), but they didn't even bother putting lipstick on it this time out. It's absolutely pathetic how the YouTube culture has shifted this franchise to HUT/pond hockey drivel. Oh but there's an Asian female ref now, so there's that.

Well, I can't say I didn't call it. It's just NHL 22 code with some 23 features sprinkled throughout.

I played 4 games as goalie... yeah, it's gonna be another rough years for tendies in clubs unless they have GDLK defense that can prevent 99% of the scoring chances. And even then I had some shots go in where I'm in position, and the stick + puck warps through my legs and into the net. The other thing I'm not a fan of is EA's notion that any shot that's 1.5 feet off the center of your chest = goal.

Goalies have limbs, they can reach out 1 or 2 feet and deflect or *gasp* gobble up pucks. Not according to EA though... Well, not according to the "ELITES" who play CHEL for a living that they listen to. LOL.

I think that's it for me. There's nothing new in the Test that warrants further playthrough. There's no new mechanics or anything. It's just the same, broken mess of a game of ping-pong on ice we've all come to know and hate.

Maybe there's hope for the full game yet. But this Test is not it. If on October 14, the game comes out in this exact state, I can safely advise people to save themselves almost a hundred bucks and wait for the game to reach the vault or game pass if they are really, REALLY pining for a little bit of hockey (what tiny, miniscule portion of it there is in this). It wouldn't even be worth getting for 75% off during black Friday sales...

If you aren't a part of it, you're not missing much. Except maybe disappointment. Congratulations EA: you've got your work cut out for you.

Was excited to get chosen today when I received the email while at work. Just now entered the code on my PS5, but it's for the PS4 version of the game. I am NOT interested in the PS4 version, AT ALL. So does this mean I cannot try the PS5 version or what? I have never got chosen for any beta testing before, so i'm very disappointed that when I finally did, it's not even for the right version. Thanks for any info.....

I wonder how many cows are hired each year at EA? I mean, they've been milking the same game for the last 10+ years, so you'd think they'd run dry eventually? Evidently not, by the looks of things. Moo. 🐮

How long does the test last, haven't been able to activate it yet.

And I just realized, when you signed up for the Test, they gave you 4 choices of which consoles you wanted to sign up for: PS4, Xbox One, PS5 or Series X/S.

                      I chose Series X/S.

I got the Xbox One version. So I didn't even get to see the actual new features of the game. What a waste of time...

I concur, I had my hopes up due to Madden 23 and how revolutionary that game has turned out but so far, after about an hour or hour and a half I cannot tell any difference from 22 except the ice that accumulates along the wall.

I am also really unhappy I am forced to play this Chel stuff when I just want to see what the regular hockey plays like. I am glad they gave me an invite but I must speak my mind and hope this isn't indicative of the final product.

Madden actually has football players involved in the game. NHL has a basketball guy leading the charge with a dude who liked NHL 94 in college as the 2nd in command. There's zero fundamental hockey knowledge going into this game, there's zero care about the AI, they are trying to limp to the barn with WoC and HUT and make it painfully obvious every year.

I mean, you can't even use the sliders properly. Animation speeds change game-to-game without touching a slider. How is anyone expected to take a game that can't even have a consistent baseline animation speed seriously in any shape or form?

We need to stop giving EA money for this series. Let it die, it's so poor.

Well I'm not sure I agree with all of that but I certainly 100% share your sentiment that this game series has really grown stale and needs a complete overhaul with what EA did with Madden 23 this year.

And yes, they also need someone to explain to them about how on a power play that teams actually can lay back a little and work the perimeter without being attacked. I am by no means any hockey expert but I have been to a lot of hockey games and this is still something that EA has never gotten right, and that ESPN hockey did. This single, seemingly minor thing, to me sort of ruins the sense I'm playing real NHL hockey and reminds me I'm playing a videogame where anyone with the puck/ball/football/whatever the CPU AI must chase dutifully even when it makes little sense.

I am not sure who or why EA did what they did with Madden but maybe the NHL team needs to go over there and talk about it. With all of that being said I will at very minimum rent this years game to give it a solid chance.

Anyways, in a positive light, the two hours I did spend with the technical test was fun but not $69 fun.
