FIFA 23 number of subs still 3?

    Hello everybody.

I’ve been always enjoying FIFA playing kick kff matches vs the CPU, mainly Premier League or Champions League.

Both leagues allow me to use just 3 subs instead of 5 when playing kick-off.

Is there something in the settings I can toggle or is this the way the game was implemented?

It five subs but you can only do it three times a match.

So you can bring three individual players on, but you’ll only be able to make three subs. Or you could say do two separate subs say 1 player at 50 min mark, 1 player at 60 but then say bring on 3 players at 70 min, thus making 5 subs in the three sub limit. Or you could just bring all 5 on at once say & only make 1 sub.

Thank you, that makes sense. It seems it’s general football knowledge I lack, lol

Oh wow, never realized I could do it that way. Always thought it was a 3 subs total limit. I don't think I've ever seen the ai make more than 3 total subs though which is why I never tried this.

Come to think of it I don’t think I’ve seen the ai make more than 3 subs either, but you definitely can as I’ve done it myself.

I wish we could have 9 subs on the bench instead of the 7 that we get in Fifa. Bundesliga for example in the match presentation with the lineups, there is 9 rows for player names on the bench but only 7 are filled obviously.

Yes, the no. of subs is still 3 allowed officially, even in the FIFA worldcup the subs are 3. I watch this blog and it clearly mentions guidelines. If you want it I can share it also

I like that we have 5 subs in Division Rivals now. I can play press the whole game.

If you just sit there late game during a user free kick the CPU will sometimes do an additional sub. So if they did 1 already it would be 2 or if 2 already now 3 technically.

The International Football Association Board has finally ratified the decision to make the option for five substitutes permanent. The decision comes two years after the beginning of the Covid-19 outbreak, which initiated the move so that teams and coaches were allowed to use five substitutions instead of the usual three as leagues around the world confronted scheduling congestion challenges. Many leagues decided to keep this regulation last season and IFAB has now decided to make the option to do that permanent for top-level competitions starting from July 2022. The current restrictions which confine those substitutes to three substitution slots plus halftime was confirmed as well.
