AfterArtz’s Challenging Madden 23 All-Pro Sliders (Next Gen)

Background: Hey everyone, my name is AfterArtz and I’ve been around here for a few years at this point. Since I’ve been here, I’ve learned a lot about how sliders work and how they affect gameplay from various people on this forum. To summarize, my goal with this set is to have a challenging competition on all-pro while keeping things as close to default as possible. Most of the tweaks to sliders are just minuscule adjustments to create more of a challenge for the user and any big adjustment is for when there is a problem in the game. When using these sliders, you should expect a tough, tight, grinding type of game where every yard has to be fought for. You should expect to not see many high scoring games especially if your offense isn’t good. Expect to see a lot of 27-20s, 16-13s, 24-20 games. I hope you guys enjoy these, I know you’ll have a blast with them.

Main Menu Settings (Input everything here, import into franchise)

    Game Style: Simulation
    Difficulty: All-Pro
    Quarter Length: 10 Min
    Accel Clock: Off
    Passing: Classic
    Defensive Auto Flip Play: On
    Ball Hawk: On
    All Other Assists: Off

    Injuries: 25
    Fatigue: 50
    Player Speed Threshold: 50

    Penalties: Default/50
    Auto Subs: Default

Sliders (input in main menu, save sliders, then import into franchise)

    USER:
    QB Accuracy: 50

    Pass Block: 45

    Catching: 45

    *Run Block: 35*

    Tackling: 50

    ST Sliders: All 50

    CPU:
    QB Accuracy: 50

    Pass Block: 50

    Catching: 53

    Run Blocking: 50

    Fumbles: 50

    Reaction Time: 50

    League Settings:

    Game Style: Simulation
    Superstar Abilities: Off
Progressive Fatigue: Off (This is a must)
    Quarter Length: 10 Minutes
    Accelerated Clock: Off

    House Rules (Highly Recommended)

    - Before each game, edit the CPU QB’s ‘throw away’ trait to ‘On’ (Credit to TC020791)

    - Before each game, edit the CPU QB’s ‘sense pressure’ trait to ‘trigger happy’ or ‘ideal’

    - Don’t switch players during the play except for choosing the catch type on offense

    - Don’t abuse money plays on offense and defense

    - When you call your play, get to the line of scrimmage and snap the ball. Don’t drive down the play clock unless you’re in a situation where you need to burn the clock.

    - Don’t gameplan for anything to do with running the ball, on offense and defense.

    - I also skip the scenarios during the season because I’m not sure if the CPU gets them. I’d rather minimize as many boosts for the user as possible.

    - If you want to see QB injuries, I suggest subtracting every QBs injury rating by 25. This will definitely allow more QBs to get injured, but it is totally optional for those that don’t want to edit players.

Here are my stats from my first game (Car Me, Clev. CPU), so far these play well, but will need to play more games to get a good feel for them.

This looks really good! I had a couple games last night and I lost 20-12 against the Colts and had a clutch OT win against the 49ers 28-25. Let me know how it goes when you get a feel for them. These sliders make it tough to get a rhythm going on offense so it takes a few games to get used to them.

Re: AfterArtz’s Challenging Madden 23 All-Pro Sliders (Next Gen)

Ok only 2 games so far but am having fun with these so far.
Man just lost a heart breaker to the G-Men, I went into the half leading
14-9, second half I fell flat, but still had chance to win/tie
late 4th G-men has it in the Red Zone and they go for it on 4th down leading 21-24, I stop them at the 1yd line and get the ball back, with just over 3 min left. I give the ball back as hey stopped me on 4th down and they have in the Red Zone, I was able to hold them to a FG so I still have a chance to win the game with a TD, with just over a min. to play, I drive all the way down to the G-Men's 19 and my receiver fumbles the ball and the G-Men recover and I lose a heart breaker.

so far these play very well, the passing game is very challenging which I like, I'm playing my 3rd game as I post this.

Re: AfterArtz’s Challenging Madden 23 All-Pro Sliders (Next Gen)

Game 3 was a total opposite of my first 2 games, this one was an all out shoot out lol. I was winning the entire game till the last Saints drive they scored and tied it and stupid me not paying attention didn't realize there were only 25 seconds left on the clock and instead of taking the touch back to take it into OT, I decide to bring it out and like the last game I fumbled it and the saints kicks the winning FG.

I have been playing 11min instead of 10min like you have the sliders set for, do you thinks the CP"U passing Attempt is to high? if so i'll play 10min qtrs.

FYI: Just noticed the stats box is reversed my stats is showing on the saints side and vice versa.

Sounds like you’ve had some good variety which is great to see! I’m coming off of a loss in my franchise where the 4-7 Rams came in and beat me 26-23 in OT.

As for the quarter length I can only recommend 10 as that is the only length i’ve used with this set and I get a realistic number of plays with it. I’ve also heard rumors in the past that quarter length can impact CPU play calling and could have fatigue impacts, but I can’t confirm if that’s actually true. I personally don’t feel a need to go up in quarter length, but if 11 feels better for you, then by all means go for it, but just remember to adjust it in the main menu first, then franchise and re-import the sliders after.

yes the variety of games are great.

So I have played 6 games now and how would i put it, i guess you can
say the game is slowing down for me lol where as in the begging I wasn't used to this set and the passing game was tough and I it has gotten easier for me the last few games. Not easy as in the passing game is too easy but I am feeling more comfortable and able to more often find my open man or know when to tuck it and run where as I used to force passes,
and learning to know when to step up in the pocket or move left or right.

I am enjoying this set 100% it give a good challenge to both sides of the ball. Heck I'm 1-5 in my Car. franchise which is pretty realistic.

So I'm not the best guy to give specific feedback as I don't look at all the match ups of how DB/WR are reacting to each other or D and O line, I'm to old for that and just want to enjoy the game at my age LOL.

I just go by what feel good and for me this set feels right for me.

With that said and I am not asking you to change your sliders on the main page but more just for what I can change in my game as like I said my feed back will not go in to that detail of how each player is interacting with each other so my feedback may mean nothing and I don't want to give false feedback causing bad adjustments for you.

Could you tell me what sliders or penalties I could adjust to improve on?

                  * Human Pass Rush, feels like I'm not getting enough pressure from my

D line, seem the CPU O line is over powered and I'm always getting
pushed backwards, but i'm not not looking for drastic

changes where I get frequent pressure but just a slight improvement

                  * CPU Run game, I am seeing way too many tackles in the backfield,
how can I tone that down? they get most of their yards on occasional
long runs, which I like, but would like to see if it is possible to tone down
the amount of back field tackles for loss and see a little more short to

medium gains. if that is possible?

D line, seem the CPU O line is over powered and I'm always getting
pushed backwards, but i'm not not looking for drastic

changes where I get frequent pressure but just a slight improvement

                    * CPU Run game, I am seeing way too many tackles in the backfield,
how can I tone that down? they get most of their yards on occasional
long runs, which I like, but would like to see if it is possible to tone down
the amount of back field tackles for loss and see a little more short to

medium gains. if that is possible?

I appreciate the feedback, I’m glad you’re enjoying the set!

The first thing I ask before adjusting sliders is to really take a close look at your players vs the cpu players. I only ask this because the player ratings matter a lot on this set so the issues you’re having with the D-line could have to do with your players not being as good as the opposing O-line you’re facing. Sometimes these issues we have in game could just be down to the matchup. Now if there is an issue that you notice each game you play where there is a definite imbalance, I would adjust either offensive holding or offsides. I would adjust only one slider first and try it in increments of 5 so either offensive holding at 55 or offsides at 45. Keep in mind that I have not tested penalty sliders so it could throw the game out of balance and mess up a whole lot of other areas.

As for the CPU run game, I would again look to matchups to see if what you’re experiencing should be happening. If the D-line is just breaking through the offensive line consistently when it shouldn’t be happening, I would bump CPU run block to 65. Now if it’s the RBs issue, you could try adjusting the fumble slider. Lowering the fumble slider will make the CPU RB more elusive, using more jukes to avoid getting tackled and raising the fumble slider will make them more direct. I’d probably start with lowering it to 47 to see if anything improves.

EDIT: I’m currently testing dropping the CPU run block slider to 55, I’m theorizing that having it too high throws the CPU run game out of balance and is causing problems. Since doing it, McCaffrey in my game is at 4 rushes for 19 yards on the first drive. Still some more testing to do but they’re running better at 55.

Thanks for information above, I think I will leave pass rush alone as after my post my next few games i have seen some pressure from my D line, so I think you are right, it probably had to do with the match ups I was facing.

I am also giving the CPU run block to 55

Re: AfterArtz’s Challenging Madden 23 All-Pro Sliders (Next Gen)

Ok so I don’t watch a lot of NFL because of work can you tell me if this is the nature of how the nfl plays out now days? This would put my mind to ease and allow me to enjoy the game knowing what I’m seeing in the game is what is happening in real life.

So I’m seeing a pass heavy offense from every team I faced they avg. 45-50 attempts a game to only 10-16 total rushing attempts, this is on 10 min qtrs.

How can we balance this out to maybe an average of 25-30 passing attempts and similar rushing attempts?

Some how I don’t think this is slider related, but perhaps an issue with the game or game lvl and a patch could fix this?

As for the cpu run game it’s still not present at 55, it’s like the rb has no awareness they don’t follow their blocks and instead turn into the rush causing a lot of back field tackles and also some times see the rb do a spin move in the back field for no reason when no one is around him. Again I think this is an issue with the game or game lvl.

I tested all madden in main menu and all pro in franchise using this setup and I seen a big improvement in the CPU run game however this would cause a total revamp to you sliders.

I tried taking control of the cpu team in the franchise menu to see if there was an setting to change their scheme to balance offense attack but found nothing.

Are you seeing any of this on your franchise? This could also just totally be an issue on my end maybe I need to reset my franchise or maybe the roster I’m using?

I believe the issue with playcalling is a madden issue and it’s not something i’m going to attempt to fix. i currently haven’t seen too much of an issue, most teams are pass happy and there’s a lot of factors at play as to what drives the play calls such as time, quarter, being down on the scoreboard, playbook, etc. i still see a handful of teams that will run the ball a lot too, so i can’t say i’ve noticed anything too problematic. i’ve heard some people try using live playbooks if you want to give that a try. just make sure you set it in the main menu and before you start your game in the menu where you select your uniforms.

That being said, I’m still going to look for a solution to the CPU running game as I’ve definitely been seeing what you saw. It almost feels like they’re just juking and spinning with no actual awareness of the situation. I’m going to get on now and figure out what’s the best solution to this issue.

EDIT: Played a game against the seahawks with the CPU run block slider at 50. Kenneth Walker rushed 13 times for 64 yards averaging 4.9 a carry. Tony Pollard rushed 9 times for 58 averaging 6.4 yards per carry and their qb rushed twice. total of 24 rush attempts for 127 yards. Most importantly, I saw no poor juke attempts into their lineman and missing open holes, the run game was actually a threat. going to continue testing, but i’m likely going to update the OP to include the change.

Updating the OP to match changes I made to the sliders.

                            CPU Run Blocking: 50

Previously with the slider set to 60, I saw a lot of running backs consistently run into their o line using jukes that didn’t make sense and not seeing open holes. Setting this back to 50 allowed for the runners to get back in sync with their o-line so the jukes they make actually help them get a bigger gain rather than juking for no reason.

                            CPU Reaction Time: 53

I just needed a little more challenge in the passing game. This small tweak should allow for more defenders to react quicker and break up more passes.

I’m always open to feedback so please let me know how these are playing for you!

Try dropping your CPU run block even lower, I think you will be surprised with the CPU run game, I dropped CPU Run block to 40 and the Ravens as of the 3rd qtr. is running all over me lol

                              Lamar Jackson 10 for 72 yds. 7.2 Avg. 2 TD's
Kenyan Drake 9 for 45 yds. 5.0 Avg. 0 TDS

Running back plays smarter and hit the hole harder, Juke and spin when needed. so far am liking it. will test it out with more games
