This is the first review in a long time that i honestly agree with everything said. Great job.

The goalkeeping, high scoring is enough to keep me out but the whole "I have to manually defend" with every single player in order to get any semblance of defense is something I refuse to tolerate and won't play another EA soccer game till they remedy this. Which it doesnt look like they ever will.

I understand it for FUT or head to head competitive modes but for those of us that want to enjoy a relaxing offline career mode its an absolute chore and just not fun.

Oh no ... I was hoping that the defense was not as much of an embarrassment for this one ... the artificially induced goal-fests in FIFA22 (in which ZERO of my midfield players played any defense of any kind) ruined it for me.

      This is very disappointing.

Re: FIFA 23 Review - Sorry Ted, I Don't Believe

I'm torn. I agree with much of this review. I hated 23 at first, playing as I usually do CM. But then I dived into FUT... and now I'm thinking - at least for online/FUT - this is the best FIFA in years.

The content and all the ways we have to build squads without spending money is fantastic. FUT Moments is a great addition. Meanwhile, despite the short half lengths that I've in the past despised, Squad Battles plays so much better than CM - like you said, the game is tuned for shorter half lengths.

I usually don't play much online multiplayer but I dived into Rivals a few days ago and I'm enjoying it more than ever before. You can actually play real football and win rather than just skilling or glitching or abusing your way to winning. I'm playing proper football and wrecking god squads.

It's weird, some of the worst things that happen in CM gameplay I've not seen in FUT. For example, keepers are awful in CM. I've not seen the same issues in FUT. A couple days ago I packed Courtouis and he's been unreal. I experienced so many keeper mistakes in CM but have hardly seen any in FUT (near post is still an issue though).

Defending against the AI on the higher difficulties remains frustrating. Not so much in FUT Rivals. The game clearly is meant for online but for the first time it feels properly balanced, especially with the nerf to left stick dribbling and skill moves. I've had great variety in matches - I've been blown out by better players, I've blown out worse players, but I've mostly had low scoring matches.

Maybe it's because I've been winning in Rivals. Maybe I'll go on a losing streak tomorrow and revert to bashing the game. CM remains a patheticly designed and implemented game mode. The amount of bugs and glitches are unacceptable. You can't play single player on longer half matches without sliders. And yet, after barely playing 22 more than a month or so, I'm enjoying FIFA (especially FUT) and think it could be best version for online play (at least FUT) ever.

Yep I've just accepted 5min halves are best option now even for offline. Even slow paced using Matt10 sliders. Still have 10-15 total shots in a match easily. You will kill yourself trying to play simulation soccer with 10+ minute halves. A clean sheet feels like an impossibility unless you drop minutes to at minimum 7. I am okay with it though. NHL is the same way the last I played it. 5min periods were perfect for SOG so long you can live without other things never being right stat wise.

I got to check out PC version of FIFA 23, I like the next gen changes with hypermotion2 and graphics visually look different. What I don't like is lack of midfield play and terrible GKs, I mean terrible terrible terrible GKs.

It's still an improvement over FIFA 19-22 though, but I don't expect much to be done gameplay wise since EA continues to rake in money so why would they need to put in effort to improve the game when the money making is automatic (Konami basically gave EA a free win last year with that botched eFootball launch). However once they lose the FIFA license, they probably will be forced to actually improve the game because "FIFA" is what draws in large amount of users.

This game has the same issues as NHL. Defenders tracking back just stop and allow attackers to roam free in high danger areas without any care in the world. Game in tuned and designed for competitive 1v1 ply at the expense of the offline user.

So, if 23 has the same anti-sim qualities 22 had, then what do those of you who have been playing FIFA (and PES) for a long time think the best game is to this point? Is it 19? Is it PES2017? Is it FIFA 14?
                Thoughts?

PES 6 still plays absurdly good. Theres also TONS of patches on PC that cover different league seasons and events like the EUROS and World Cup, to either modernize the game or turn it retro mode. Right now on my PC I have World Cups '90-'18, EUROS 96-20, a few different Champions League seasons and a 2006 Premier League season. Great fun.

Fully aware of PES6. Probably the only game that remains installed on my computer at all times.
                    Any other choices?
