    AI announcers in Sports Games

I read a few articles talking about using AI announcers for live games and there's something to it. Several articles mentioned the possibility of having Custom commentary that you could tailor to your needs or enjoyment. For example having more informative commentary vs having a more matter of fact commentary. Apparently MLB is testing this.

Imagine Madden having AI announcers. Every name could be called out. You could have dynamic replay commentary that intelligently breaks down plays, maybe even learns user and CPU playcalling tendencies and calls it out dynamically. The sky truly is the limit.

Would this be something the community would get behind or would real announcers coming in to do actual commentary still be preferred?

That could be a game changer if the technology is there. No more repetitive lines over and over again, keeping everything fresh. Imagine playing Madden with an AI John Madden commentating on the games! Hopefully this can be done well, and we don't end up with an uncanny valley situation where it doesn't sound quite human.

Would seriously be a game changer, good commentary would make the games so much more immersive and fun!

This would be a nice addition, heck even just getting them to call edited draft class player names would be great.

I think the Madden lines from games in the past are better than a lot of what is being done today...

I feel Madden would be the last of the major sports games to do it because they are cheap but yeah it would be great indeed!

As long as the actual human beings performing the voice work needed to generate the computer-generated audio are fairly compensated for their work, I'm agreeable.

I'm generally very wary of the implications of artificial intelligence replacing paid human artistic expression, although I also concede that as soon as the technology is reliable and affordable the toothpaste is already out of the tube.

This will absolutely be a thing, but we’re talking 10 years down the line. As most of this is still in its infancy.

I don't think this would go how you think it would but I think I'll write about this next week to better get into it.
I won't ask for Christmas or birthday gifts if you subscribe to the Operation Sports Newsletter (Not Just Another Roster Update). I write it, and it hits your inbox every Friday morning (for freeeeeee). We also have an official OS Discord you can now join.

I don't think we'll see it anytime soon. But the prospect is really interesting. Real commentators only have so much time to record dialogue. You often see situations where there's no line recorded or worse called wrong. Most commentary is pretty vague as well since there's really no real time analysis of what's happening in your game or league. As AI is starting to sound more and more human those problems could be a thing of the past. AI is still in its infancy but the future is pretty wild.

Since I only use the PA announcer, I'm only looking for an advancement to where it can say all of the names of the drafted players. I hope that this isn't too far off from happening.

Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.

Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.

there is really no excuse for it not to be happening in the last 7 years.

How long has it been since defensive prospects have their last name said by the announcers? If a name is being said at all it’s only an offensive player. Maybe M12?
