    Coach Suggestions

I've been messing around with the idea of using playcall sheets. But looking at a paper or at my phone or whatever is annoying.

So I used the gameplan thing in the custom playbook to rate plays for certain situations. I figured the "coach suggestion" would then show me the plays that I selected for those situations.

And it does, but sometimes it shows me only a couple, sometimes only 1, despite having maybe a dozen plays selected for that situation. And I have my settings such that I can't run the same play more than 2x in a game. So sometimes it just a list of bank plays that I can't run.

Am I doing something wrong or is the game just too dumb for this?

I recently watched a video online about using favorite plays to build a playsheet. But it doesn't automatically call up my 3rd and short plays--I have to dig. And if I want to make a change, I basically have to redo the whole thing because adding new plays messes up the order.

    Re: Coach Suggestions

Do you have 30 plays selected for each game plan category?

      Re: Coach Suggestions

No, definitely not. But I do have far more plays than are showing up on the suggestions.

I was trying to implement what I read in Brian Billick’s book about offensive game plans. The gist of it is that you figure out how many times you’re in each scenario and base the number of plays on that. So you might see 3rd&1 1-2 times in a game and put 2 runs and 2 passes in your game plan for that.

Maybe this feature just won’t work the way I’m trying to use it.

You have to completely fill the gameplan with plays or it’ll do what you’re seeing. Add plays to each situation until it’s full and you’ll get better results. Been an issue for years on Madden.

Where do you setup these gameplans for certain situations? I would love to try it. "Coach Suggestion" plays sometimes don't really make sense at default.

Select a base playbook, RB over to My Gameplan. Edit to your heart's content.

Each category will acknowledge 30 plays. The stars don't mean anything unless you're Super Simming, in which case the percentage chance a play will be called in a situation is (number of stars assigned to play)/(number of total stars in situation).

Beware, it can be a bit buggy and it takes time and patience to build. The order of your formations will be weird, and you'll get 4 minute offense when you need 2 minute offense soetimes.

Where you hear about the stars?

Like many things in Madden, this COULD be a great feature, but it’s so frustrating working around the shoddy interface and shoddy execution that I abandon it.

This feature is completely and totally broken in Madden 24. No idea how it got shipped in such condition. They'd have been better of removing the feature entirely. What they shipped is an absolute embarrassment.

Same could be said for sliders (which are annually a complex mystery for the community to figure out), fatigue, auto subs, and coverage by CPU defensive backs to inexplicably stop and run in the opposite direction of a pass in flight. I’ve only played practice mode and Superstar Mode as a QB for 6 regular season games, and I’ve already discovered all of those issues. By the way, this list is just off the top of my head on my lunch break. Many of those issues have existed for many years.
Either EA simply refuses to devote the resources to solidifying existing broken features or these features are irreparably broken due to 30+ years of copy/paste/bandaid/repeat.
I would gladly pay $140 for Madden ‘26 or $210 for Madden ‘27 (or better yet a sim football game from a different company) if they would take 2-3 years with no new release to completely tear down this entire IP and start over and build everything back piece-by-piece the right way, learning from the mistakes of the past.
I’d pay that money right now and be willing to wait a few years while they figure it out. The alternative of yearly releases (see the past 15-20 years) sucks! That model is too far gone.
I’d be totally satisfied if the first reboot only had Practice Mode, a stripped-down Franchise Mode, and Play Now. Of course, they’d have to have MUT (which I’ve played for maybe an hour total over the 10-15 years that mode has existed) to get their micro-transaction money, which is fine because that toothpaste is never going back in the tube.
Or, I truly hope one of these indie companies eventually makes a sim football game that is fundamentally sound. IOW, if a feature exists in the game, it works. If they can’t get the feature to work, they remove it entirely. But to know that whatever’s in the game is rock solid is what really matters.
I think there are hundreds of thousands of people like me who would pay $70 for a sim football game with no NFL or NFLPA or NCAA license if it gave you a sim football experience worthy of the age we live in. We live in the age of Chat GPT, but Madden still can’t get fatigue and auto subs right? They can’t get defenders to play the pass correctly? Give me a break.

Requiring us to put 30 plays in each situation defeats the purpose of scripts and gameplans for the most part.
90% of the reason I’d use a script/gameplan would be to de-clutter my playcalling. Give me 8 or 10 plays per situation so I can quickly find what I want, call the play and get on with it.
If I have to scroll through 30 plays to find what I want, I just as well off picking plays by formation.
Currently, the only time I use my “coach suggestion” during games is on the first play of the drive because of the stupid way the play clock runs down to 19 seconds before playcalling screen comes up at the beginning if each drive.
A panicked rush to get the ball snapped on the opening play of a drive is so bassackwards and the opposite of real football.

I did this a few days ago...it actually works. You don't have to necessarily pick 30 plays for each situation because if not it'll show the plays over again that you run the most.

30 plays will give each situation the most diverse plays...fairly tedious but it works. Glad I took the time to make it work. I can plug in new plays in specific situations as I see fit.

                            Please help

I have created a custom playbook but the coaches suggestions (which I like to use for variance) is limited to 15 plays per scenario. Even though I have starred more than 15 plays.

I thought this limit was 30 - any suggestions to how this can be changed…..?

It's 30 plays? I thought it was only 20 plays? But I'll gladly go add 10 more plays for each playbook.
