Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox

Welcome to "Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox"!

The purpose of this thread is to share my experience playing a franchise mode in Madden NFL 2002 on the original Xbox, using CPU vs CPU games with custom All-Pro difficulty sliders inspired by the original Madden Manifesto. I've chosen 11 minute quarters, before the era of the accelerated clock feature, which results in the NFL average of about 120 combined offensive plays between both teams, providing a true-to-life simulation experience.

I encourage you to watch the videos on 2x speed if the length of the games is intimidating, as this will speed up the gameplay without sacrificing the overall experience.

While the original game only supported 480p, I'm using a feature on the original Xbox that allows me to force an upscale to 720p for the best quality without using an emulator. This way, you can enjoy the games in the best possible resolution.

It's worth noting that Madden NFL 2002 doesn't yet offer pre-season or other in-depth franchise features that we're accustomed to for 6th generation Madden titles. However, this won't stop us from enjoying the game and experiencing a realistic simulation of the 2001 NFL season!

With this being the 2001 season, it's also worth noting that it's before the 2002 divisional realignment. The realignment is a feature in the game for year two, as well as the option to take control of the expansion Houston Texans. We'll be playing through the 2001 season as it was originally played, with the classic divisions and teams.

The season will start in Week 1, where we'll be hosting the divisional rival Atlanta Falcons, led by rookie #1 overall pick Michael Vick. This should make for an exciting matchup right from the get-go!

I'm looking forward to sharing this retro sports gaming experience with you all, and I encourage you to provide feedback and suggestions as we make our way through the 2001 NFL season!

So sit back, relax, and enjoy as we bring the classics back to life in this retro sports gaming experience!

Re: Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox

In Week 1, we'll be hosting the Atlanta Falcons, a divisional rival led by rookie sensation Michael Vick. Vick was the #1 overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft and has already made headlines with his explosive speed and athleticism. We'll need to keep an eye on him at all times, as he has the ability to make big plays happen out of nothing.

However, Vick won't be the only threat on the Falcons' offense. They also have a talented running back in Jamal Anderson, who has fully recovered from his serious knee injury. Anderson was a Pro Bowler in 1998, rushing for over 1,800 yards and 14 touchdowns. If he's back to his old form, he could be a handful for our defense to stop.

On defense, the Falcons have a strong secondary led by cornerback Ray Buchanan, who was also a Pro Bowler in 1998. We'll need to be careful with our passes and make sure we're not giving Buchanan and the Falcons' defense any easy opportunities to make plays.

Their front seven is led by linebacker Keith Brooking and defensive end Patrick Kerney, that can disrupt our passing game and make it difficult to move the ball on the ground.

Brooking is a Pro Bowl caliber linebacker who is known for his leadership and ability to make plays all over the field. He'll be a key player to watch on the Falcons' defense, as he can both stuff the run and drop back into coverage to defend the pass.

Kerney is a talented defensive end who can rush the passer and disrupt plays in the backfield. He's a hard worker who is relentless in his pursuit of the quarterback, so we'll need to make sure we have a solid game plan to neutralize his impact on the game.

Overall, the Falcons' defense will be a formidable opponent, but we're up for the challenge. We'll need to execute our game plan and be disciplined on both sides of the ball if we want to come away with a win in Week 1.

Overall, this should be a challenging matchup for us, but we're excited to get the season started and see what our team is capable of. Let's go out there and give it our all!

Re: Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox

After a hard-fought victory against the Falcons in Week 1, we're hitting the road to face the 2001 New Orleans Saints. This is a team that finished with a 10-6 record last season (2000), and have added some promising young talent that makes them an even more dangerous opponent, such as rookie Deuce McAllister.

On offense, the Saints are led by quarterback Aaron Brooks, who is getting his first chance to start after backing up Brett Favre. He's a talented player with a strong arm and good mobility, and he'll be looking to make a statement against our defense.

The Saints also have a talented running back in Ricky Williams, who is a powerful runner that can wear down a defense over the course of the game, so we'll need to be disciplined in our tackling and make sure we're not giving him any easy yards.

On defense, the Saints have a dominant nose tackle in La'Roi Glover. He's a disruptive force in the middle of the line and can wreak havoc on opposing offenses. We'll need to be creative with our blocking schemes to prevent Glover from wreaking havoc in our backfield.

The Saints also have a solid secondary led by cornerback Fred Thomas. They're a well-coached team that plays with discipline and intensity, so we'll need to be on our toes throughout the game.

Overall, we know that this will be a tough matchup, but we're up for the challenge. We'll need to execute our game plan and be disciplined on both sides of the ball if we want to come away with a victory in Week 2. Let's go Niners!

In Week 3 of the 2001 NFL season, the 2-0 San Francisco 49ers will face off against the St. Louis Rams in an NFC West showdown. The 49ers are entering the game with an undefeated record behind the strong performances of quarterback Jeff Garcia. However, they will need to rely on linebacker Julian Peterson and their pass rush to contain the Rams' offense, which features quarterback Kurt Warner, running back Marshall Faulk, and wide receiver Isaac Bruce.

The Rams will be looking to bounce back after a tough loss in Week 2 and establish their dominance in the division. This game promises to be a hard-fought battle between two teams with playoff aspirations. Will the 49ers continue their undefeated streak, or will the Rams hand them their first loss of the season? Be sure to tune in and find out!

Re: Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox

The San Francisco 49ers have started the season on fire with an undefeated record as they travel to face the New York Jets in Week 4 of the NFL season. Led by quarterback Jeff Garcia and a dynamic trio of wide receivers in Terrell Owens, JJ Stokes, and Tai Streets, the 49ers boast one of the league's most potent passing attacks.

However, the 49ers will need to address their defensive issues if they hope to keep their perfect record intact. The 49ers rank 30th in the league in run defense, which could be a problem against the Jets' star running back Curtis Martin, who leads their top-15 rushing attack.

On the flip side, the Jets' defense has struggled against the pass, ranking near the bottom of the league in pass defense. This bodes well for the 49ers' aerial attack, which will look to exploit the Jets' weaknesses.

The Jets, led by quarterback Chad Pennington and head coach Herman Edwards, who will famously declar "You play to win the game!", will be desperate for a win after a slow start to the season.

Will the 49ers keep their undefeated streak alive or will the Jets finally get their season on track with a statement win on Monday Night Football? Be sure to tune in to find out!

Re: Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox

The undefeated San Francisco 49ers (4-0) return home to host the Carolina Panthers (2-2) in a Week 5 matchup. Led by quarterback Jeff Garcia and the dynamic receiving duo of Terrell Owens and surprising success story JJ Stokes, the 49ers have relied on their explosive passing attack to win each of their first four games.

In addition, there has been a change at the running back position, as rookie Kevin Barlow will be given the start. Can he continue the success of the 49ers' ground game?

On the other side of the ball, the Panthers will be led by their 29-year-old rookie quarterback Chris Weinke. The former Heisman Trophy winner will look to lead the Panthers' offense against a struggling 49ers' defense that ranks near the bottom of the league in run defense.

The Panthers' defense, led by linebacker Dan Morgan and defensive end Julius Peppers, will look to disrupt the 49ers' passing attack and force turnovers.

Can the 49ers continue their undefeated streak or will the Panthers hand them their first loss of the season? Tune in to find out in what promises to be an exciting matchup between two talented teams.

After suffering their first loss of the season, the San Francisco 49ers look to bounce back on the road against the Atlanta Falcons in a Week 6 rematch. Led by quarterback Jeff Garcia and rookie running back Kevin Barlow, who had a strong showing in his first start, the 49ers will aim to reignite their explosive passing attack against a Falcons defense that ranks 29th in the league against the pass.

However, the Falcons will present a tough challenge for the 49ers, as they are led by dynamic rookie quarterback Michael Vick and veteran running back Jamal Anderson, who has returned from injury and is averaging an impressive 5.8 yards per carry. Can the 49ers' struggling defense step up to stop the Falcons' potent rushing attack?

In their Week 1 matchup, the 49ers defeated the Falcons by a score of 30-20. The Falcons will be looking for revenge and will hope to avenge their earlier loss in front of their home crowd.

The 49ers' defense, which ranks 28th in the league against the run and 27th against the pass, will need to make some adjustments to contain Vick and Anderson. Can they improve on their performance from earlier in the season and hold off the Falcons once again?

Tune in to find out if the 49ers can get back to their winning ways or if the Falcons will exact revenge in what promises to be an exciting Week 6 matchup.

Re: Bringing the Classics Back: Madden NFL 2002 49ers Franchise on Original Xbox

Get ready for an exciting matchup in Chicago as the 49ers take on the Bears in week 8 of the 2001 season in Madden NFL 2002. After sweeping the Falcons, the 49ers enjoyed a bye week and are now well-rested for this important game against a tough Bears team. Led by Jeff Garcia, the 49ers have seen some struggles in the passing game lately, dropping from the #2 passing attack to 15th. Garcia will need to improve his accuracy and decision-making if the 49ers hope to bounce back in this game.

On the other side of the field, the Bears have the 9th ranked passing attack, but they struggle in the running game, with the 30th ranked rushing attack. The 49ers defense has been making small improvements each week, with the run defense ranked 24th, which could spell trouble for the Bears. Brian Urlacher and the Bears defense, however, will be looking to stop the 49ers' rushing attack led by Kevin Barlow and veteran Garrison Hearst.

Keep an eye out for the 49ers' receiving corps, who have been plagued by drops, with a total of 28 drops across all targets, including JJ Stokes, Greg Clark, and Terrell Owens. With head coach Steve Mariucci known for his offensive designs and work as a QB coach, the bye week may have provided the necessary time for the team to iron out their issues and come out with a stronger passing attack.

Will the 49ers' rushing attack be able to break through the Bears defense? Will Jeff Garcia and the 49ers' passing game bounce back from their recent struggles? Tune in to find out in this exciting Madden NFL 2002 franchise matchup on the original Xbox.

The 49ers have been impressive this season with a balanced attack on offense and a solid defense. After a big win on the road against the Bears, they return home to face the Lions, who have struggled on both sides of the ball.

The Lions' offense has struggled to find its rhythm this season, ranking 27th in both the pass and run game. This bodes well for the 49ers' defense, which has been solid against the pass and continues to improve against the run.

On the other side of the ball, the 49ers have a balanced attack, with a top 10 passing game and a top 11 rushing game. This will be a good test for the Lions' defense, which has been strong against the pass but has struggled against the run.

Overall, the matchup looks to favor the 49ers, who have been playing at a high level this season. If they can continue their balanced offensive attack and improve their run defense, they should have a good chance to come away with a win at home. However, the Lions' defense could make things difficult for the 49ers' passing game, so it will be important for them to execute and make adjustments as needed.

In week 10 of the 2001 season, the San Francisco 49ers host the New Orleans Saints in a rematch of their week 2 contest. Despite injuries at running back for the Saints, their rushing attack remains potent and ranks second in the league. Meanwhile, the 49ers maintain their status as a top-ten passing and rushing team.

Defensively, the 49ers have made small improvements against the run but still rank towards the bottom of the league at 22nd. Their pass defense is ranked 14th, while the Saints have the 28th ranked passing attack and 5th ranked run game. However, the Saints will be without star running back Ricky Williams and rookie Duce McAlister, which may affect their ability to run the ball effectively.

In the previous matchup, the 49ers came out on top. Can they do it again, or will the Saints find a way to overcome their injuries and come away with a victory? Tune in to see how this divisional battle plays out in Madden NFL 2002 on the original Xbox.

                        Thanks.

I have recorded week 11 and week 12. I need to write the descriptions for them and upload them to YouTube.

I played an exhibition game of 49ers at the Ravens with the Madden Manifesto inspired All-Pro simulation sliders and dunked all over them because of the many exploitable flaws in the 2002 game play an AI. Madden 2003 was a huge step forward from the 2001 and 2002 entries into the sixth generation console games. If you want to watch, just keep in mind that:
                        1. I was still a bit rusty.
                        2. It was mostly done to show you why I prefer the intense CPU vs CPU games for a more realistic sim experience over the user just dunking on a CPU AI from the year 2001.
                        3. If I can do that to the best defense in the game, then there the only other challenge on paper would be to go toe to toe with the Rams "Greatest Show on Turf" offense... except the CPU battle vs the Rams in week 3 was enough to put them away.

I will return to the franchise on Monday night and hope to finish year one this week. No less than one game a night for five nights should get us through the season, into the playoffs and possibly beyond. I tend to just let the game run and set my alarm to check on it.

As we approach week 11 of the 2001 season, the 49ers find themselves sitting pretty with a 7-2 record. But the road to the playoffs is never an easy one, especially when you have a divisional matchup against the Carolina Panthers on the horizon.

The Panthers may not have the strongest rushing attack in the league, but their passing game is second to none. This sets up a fascinating clash of styles, as the 49ers boast a stout running game and a top-tier passing attack of their own.

Defensively, both teams have some room for improvement, but the 49ers will need to step up their game in particular against the pass. With the Panthers' aerial assault being their biggest strength, the 49ers' pass defense will need to be firing on all cylinders to keep them in check.

This matchup is sure to be heated, with both teams looking to make a statement in a crucial divisional game. Can the 49ers' well-rounded attack overcome the Panthers' deadly passing game? Tune in to find out!

Week 12 of the 2001 season is shaping up to be a pivotal one for the San Francisco 49ers. Fresh off an impressive win over the Carolina Panthers, they now face a tough challenge against the Indianapolis Colts.

The 49ers' defense has steadily improved over the course of the season, going from a lowly 31st ranked run defense to a respectable 16th. Combined with their solid pass defense, they have become a much more well-rounded unit. On the offensive side of the ball, the 49ers have been firing on all cylinders, with a top 10 ranking in both passing and rushing yards per game.

But the Colts are no pushover. With a 6-4 record and the 7th best team ranking in the NFL, they are right in the thick of the playoff hunt. While their offense may not be as explosive as the 49ers', they are still a formidable unit, with a top 15 ranking in both passing and rushing yards per game. On defense, they have been solid as well, ranking in the top half of the league against both the pass and the run.

This matchup is sure to be a closely contested battle between two teams fighting for a playoff spot. Can the 49ers' balanced attack overcome the Colts' tough defense? Will the Colts be able to keep up with the 49ers' high-powered offense? All these questions and more will be answered when these two teams clash on the field. Don't miss out on what promises to be a thrilling matchup in Madden NFL 2002!

Weeks 11 and 12 are processing, and I am recording Bills @ 49ers, which is a CRAZY game as they enter the 4th quarter as I type this.

One thing you can do to enjoy the games as well is use the "L" key to skip ahead 10 seconds on YouTube and the arrow keys to skip in 5 second chunks. I was watching some back and found a could taps on the L key was a good way to jump from one play to the next. I am sorry, but editing would take hours, and I might throw together a season summary video with highlights of the whole adventure.
