Hi all, just wanted to know what’s everyone’s opinion of the game for those who have it or have played the trial? Is the game a must buy? Is the game full of bugs or unpolished and should be shelved till it’s all patched? Or should I save my money and time?

If I were your attorney I would advise you wait. Full disclosure I don’t have the game yet (buying it today on disc) but I have been avidly reading this forum all week.Last edited by mrsaito; 04-07-2023, 11:17 AM. -
Re: Buy, Wait or Avoid? EA Sports PGA Tour
I'm going to buy it today because I'm powerless, but looks like a wait.
As always, it was bugged when released.
I don't think its going to play sim the way people want, but they'll tune it eventually to be playable. The courses look insanely nice though.Comment

The hype is real, but waiting on the verdict on the substance. I’ve read plenty of mixed reviews saying the game is beautiful but the gameplay is too easy and the swing is too slow? Are these issues easily patchable? Are the Devs aware and are willing to support the community with patches?2018-2019 NBA Champions!Comment

My recommendation is to spend $5 on EA Play and then immediately cancel subscription. You get a 10 hour trial as part of EA Play.
I don't think the swing will ever be fast like 2K. Ideally they get it to be 1 for 1 with controller input. But is playable this way once you get used to it. One positive of the slow swing is you can do partial shots in EA game where it is much more difficult (at least of playing no meter) in 2K.
Content wise, EA is great. Lots of challenges, course mastery goals, solid career mode.
Visually it is best looking golf game I've played.
Putting is kind of a weak point. It works but is not on level of 2K.
They definitely need to tweak impacts of rough and sand (doesn't affect much of anything currently). They hopefully scale back on ball rollout at Links style courses a bit.
Weakest part of game to me is input vs output. Doing X does not always result in outcome Z. There is randomness involved. This is my biggest problem with the game. You can hit the exact same shot 10 times in a row buy you will get multiple results. I believe it is tied into golfer skill tree and level. I don't have facts to confirm this but this is my experience and I've seen others report same thing. This can help with difficulty aspect and you can try and explain this in a way that a real golfer couldn't land the ball exactly where they want 10 times in a row either. My argument for that is because they aren't hitting the ball precisely the same way (as opposed to EA have random generated outcomes). I prefer to not have randomness but rather slight inputs generated slightly different outputs. Anyway that is my rant on what I think is biggest flaw.
If you search YouTube a guy named ReSpawn did what I consider to be a very good review as well if that helps your purchase decision.
For me, it is worthy of purchase. Lot of content. Looks great. Plays ok if you can get over some of the flaws. I think it will improve over time (3 click, patches, online things to do).Comment

Re: Buy, Wait or Avoid? EA Sports PGA Tour
With technology and software, I never buy in anticipation of future features and fixes.
The product needs to be something I want at the time of purchase.
This game needs a lot of patching and adding (for my desires and needs) and I will only give EA money if they follow through and support this game post release.
Generally speaking, EA do not have an amazing track record of meaningful post release updates and patches on their sports games and so I will stay on the sidelines for now.
It'd be a refreshing surprise to see them do a lot of work on this as time goes on.Comment

Also will EA make this game a yearly release? Or are they planning on building upon this game with patches? Since the title is just EA Sports PGA Tour and not EA Sports PGA Tour 2023.2018-2019 NBA Champions!Comment

Re: Buy, Wait or Avoid? EA Sports PGA Tour
Other than 3C swing and apparently "telling Apex that 60fps for consoles is coming", everything else is wishing and hoping on the part of consumers.
I would at least wait a little bit to buy -- if nothing more than to see what the first patch looks like. That could tell us a lot about their ambition level here.
Of course -- it's your money..
If you just want it and the issues don't matter to you .. go for it!
Beautiful to look at!Last edited by scagwi; 04-07-2023, 12:18 PM.Comment
