The Other Guys | A USF Bulls Football Journey

The Other Guys | A USF Bulls Football Journey

When you think about the college football landscape in the state of Florida, it's the powerhouses of Miami ...Florida ...and Florida State that are probably the first programs that come to mind - or at least they should be..

Then there's the surging UCF Golden Knights and those sweet black and gold uniforms ...and even Florida Atlantic (FAU) has seen some recent success as of late ...And this past season - it was FIU (Jonnu Smith, anyone??) finishing a few notches higher than USF.

    Ouch.

We're talking bottom of the barrel.

Calling Tampa Bay and Raymond James Stadium (also home to the Buccaneers) its home, there's a lot the South Florida Bulls can offer potential recruits, and I'm here in attempt to bolster up this program and elude from the depths of being "the forgotton" and get to the same tier of those top dogs mentioned above (err, above above 👀 👀 ) - hopefully creating some nice power rivalries in the process (looking at you, Gators!).

With that said, I'm excited to get this started up! I'll be playing NCAA 06 Next, which is modded to bring the game up to date like CFB Revamped, and the rosters are from this past season.

We'll be starting with real-life head coach Alex Golesh, so this will follow the program, not me as a coach. This also means I'll be using his assigned playbook and schemes.

    Thanks for checking in!

    Platform: PCSX2
Mode: Dynasty Mode, Playing All Games
    Rosters: 2022 Season Default
    Sliders: Bill Abner's Heisman Set
Playoffs: Pretty sure we'll be rolling with a 4-team playoff system.

Misc: I am going to be using Coach Alex Golesh’s playbooks and system to start. Redshirting Freshmen only who sit last or second-to-last on the depth chart. Recruiting will be automatic to keep from exploiting the system. I'll be using Ask Corso to call my plays.

BTW, let me know if you guys are interested in submitting your own created coaches and/or recruits to follow along with. I think it could be a cool feature.

Conference realignment revealed as schedule is announced

The American Athletic Conference (AAC) will look significantly different this year when the college football season begins. The conference is losing some of its best programs, but it’s also attempting to reload with a few up-and-coming programs.

The league is losing three fantastic programs in Cincinnati, Houston, and UCF. It will be hard to replace them. However, the AAC has gone ahead and added Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice, UAB, and UTSA to the mix in order to soften the blow.

Here's a list of all the teams competing in AAC play this season:

                Charlotte
                ECU
                FAU
                Memphis
                Navy
                North Texas
                Rice
                SMU
                Temple
                Tulane
                Tulsa
                UAB
                USF
                UTSA

With that said, it should make the competition a bit softer for USF this year, but a weaker conference could also force out the higher-ranked recruits.

^ So in regards to the conference realignment... that's not happening until the next season IRL, but it was easier to include it from the beginning of the dynasty. I think it's a cool wrinkle. So, we're a year early, but I'm excited for it!

May do a team preview and then get into games.

Thanks! I don't know, I feel like I just prefer this version over the NCAA 14 version for some reason. Loved them both at the time of release.

                              Roster Preview

                              A Few Bright Spots

South Florida's roster ranks pretty low across the board when compared to the rest of the nation (Ranked 96th to kick off the year). But, let's be positive and point out some of the bright spots here.

Running back Jaren Mangham has the makeup of a bruiser and the Bulls should be able to count on him for short yardage situations. I'm thinking goal line (should the offense actually get there) carries and 4th-and-1 situations.

Also, the speed of the receivers is something we can hang our hats on. There are a handful of flyers that (once again) should be able to do their job and stretch the field... let's not talk about actually catching the ball though. Yikes.

Lastly, there are a few freshmen to be excited about. Eddie Kelly is slated to be a day-one starter on the d-line. He's a big guy with plenty of potential to grow (literally and as a player). While CB Aamaris Brown also gets the starting nod. He's got decent speed and good awareness already. And the last mention here will be redshirted freshman LB Mac Harris. Harris has awesome speed and athleticism out of the linebacker spot.
