Based on gaming experience and not necessarily how good the particular game was.

1) John Madden Football (Sega Genesis)

It was the first Madden game ever played. Me and my cousin played it all summer long.

2) Madden 2001(PS2)

It was the first time I had ever sat in line for hours to wait for a gaming console to drop. My cousin and I sat in line at Walmart for 7 hours for the PS2 midnight release. We got home about 12:30. We played Madden 01' about 3 hours until both of us had to get up for work around 6 am.

3) Madden 2005(PS2)

Franchise/Owner Mode, Tony Bruno Show, Ray Lewis Commercial

4) Madden 10 (Xbox 360)

I'm a square I know, but it was something about me and my best friends being able to set up our playbooks and playcalling to be done automatically and hearing it in our headsets so that the other person had no idea what we were doing lol.

5) Madden 23(Series X)

I drank all the Jim Jones koolaid after playing that BETA for a month!

Your top 5 Madden releases?

I ranked mine based on the joy
It gave me and the hours I put in. All those got easily the highest amount of play time.

16/05/07 for me were 100’s and 100’s of hours….hell 05/07 maybe 1000 combined. 16 we are approaching over 600 hours.

21-23 are going to played a lot for the foreseeable future.

23 is back to a good place for me….and thats good. I really have enjoyed it a lot.

1) Madden 08 PC. I played this one a long time. Had good online franchise. I even liked the soundtrack. Just a good overall game.

2) Madden 21 PS5. I was surprised how good this one played. It was a late release on PS5 and was expecting a port of PS4 but this was a different feeling game. This is the game I wish was built on further but they seem to have gotten away from the original intent. Remember the talk how the motion was used off data from NextGen stats......that whole notion disappeared after M21. I was looking forward to an expanse in this (was hoping every position would be tracked for speed, agility, cutting, jumping, etc..... but it quietly disappeared and was not a talking point after M21).

3) Madden 05 PC. Defense and hit stick balanced out the game. Played well for that Era

4) Madden 17/18. Lumping them together as they were same to me. Nothing really stands out but I put a lot of time into online franchises with these versions. Seemed to be a fair playing games online. Didn't play them much offline.

5) Madden 09 XBox 360. This will not be on the list of many as I think it has poor reputation. However, I thought it was pretty good. I like the idea of dynamic progression they had with skill trainer and how the game tried to adjust difficulty based on skill. I think they should bring they back. I also felt the graphics were good for the PS3/XBox360 Era.

Honorable mention. Fully patched Madden 22 played a decent game I felt.

Madden 23 omission. The early bugs killed this one for me. No longer desired to be in online leagues as couldn't even get a lineup to stick early on. It is in better place now but I still feel it is lacking in areas (cpu run game, play calling and time management, momentum meter over powered, don't like tackle battle system or animations). I like idea of player tags and the game is ok but I think that this was worst release ever and think the current version of the game is now in a place where it is good.....but not great or top 5 worthy.

1. Madden 21 (PS4): this one over the PS5 because the PS4 version has my second longest running Madden franchise on it and the one I still play.

2. Madden 18 (PS4): This is a divisive one, I know that. But it holds my longest running franchise on it.

3. Madden 20 (PS4): Had a lot of fun rebuilding on this one. It was fun all around.

4. Madden 10(PS2): Overall great version and had countless hours of fun on it.

5. Madden 25 (PS3): This was the last one you could import your NCAA draft classes on. Honestly every version of Madden after this until 18, I went back to 25 on for this feature.

My PS3 hit the fan a few years back and I miss it. I miss playing that, NCAA 14, NCAA college basketball 2010, and as well as final fantasy 13 amongst others.

I would probably still be playing M25 to this day. I was 13 or 14 seasons into my Bears franchise and had imported just as many draft classes from my Arizona Wildcats dynasty before I lost everything.
