The 2022-23 Manchester United F.C. Season
From Wikipedia, the free Encyclopedia
The 2022-23 season was Manchester United’s 31st season in the Premier League and their 48th consecutive season in the topflight of English football. The club experienced a major change in ownership midseason, with Jim Ratcliffe’s consortium purchasing the club from the Glazer family. Manchester United's goalkeeper position was a major talking point early on in the season, with David De Gea ultimately winning out over Sam Johnstone in a closely contested battle.
The club also had a fierce rivalry with Liverpool, with Liverpool winning two out of three head to head match ups, including the Champions League final. However, Manchester United were successful in other competitions, winning four trophies: the UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Cup. This was the second season under manager Thomas Walker, with the club winning 47 of the 67 games they played. Manchester United earned 83 points in the Premier League, the most since Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season.
Club Captain Harry Maguire left the club in the summer before the season, along with several other key players, leading to the addition of several new faces, including Sam Johnstone, Maxence Lacroix, Oumar Solet, and Carney Chukwuemeka. Additionally, Renato Sanches was brought in on loan in January to bolster the midfield.
