    Preview: Champions League Final

    By Oliver Lewis May 25, 2023 132

ISTANBUL, TUR - In what promises to be a mouth-watering contest, Manchester United will take on Liverpool in the Champions League final in Istanbul, Turkey in two days' time. These two rivals will be meeting for the third time this season, with the stakes higher than ever before. Manchester United will be looking to defend their crown and lift the trophy for the fifth time in the club's history, while Liverpool will be hoping to add to their six European Cup titles.

This season, Liverpool managed to edge out United to win the Premier League, but United will be out for revenge in this final. In the regular season, Liverpool defeated United 2-1 at Anfield, while United earned a come-from-behind draw, 2-2, at Old Trafford in April. Both teams have had impressive runs to the final, with Liverpool defeating Borussia Monchengladbach, Barcelona, and Real Madrid, while United overcame Stade Rennais, Juventus, and Bayern Munich.

Manchester United's attack is led by Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been in exceptional form this season and claimed the Premier League Golden Boot. He is joined by Marcus Rashford, who has been a constant threat down the left flank, and Julián Álvarez, who has shown glimpses of his stardome in his second season at the club. The midfield is anchored by Bruno Fernandes, who has been United's anchor all season, and Renato Sanches, who has been a revelation since joining the club in January. In defense, Raphaël Varane and Oumar Solet have formed a solid partnership, and their performances have been a key factor in United's success this season.

Liverpool's attacking trio of Sadio Mané, Mo Salah, and Darwin Núñez have been on fire this season, scoring a combined total of 65 goals in all competitions. Luis Diaz has also emerged as a key player for Liverpool this season, scoring some crucial goals in the knockout stages of the Champions League. In midfield, Youri Tielemans has been a standout performer, controlling the tempo of the game and creating chances for the attackers. In defense, Virgil van Dijk has returned from injury and has looked as commanding as ever, while Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold provide the width and creativity from the full-back positions.

Both teams have exceptional talent, but it will be the battle between Ronaldo and Van Dijk that will be the most intriguing. Ronaldo has been in electric form this season, scoring 27 goals in the Premier League alone, while Van Dijk will be looking to keep him quiet and show why he is considered one of the best defenders in the world. It promises to be a fascinating matchup that could swing the game in either team's favor.

Many pundits and betting lines are leaning towards Liverpool to win the Champions League final. Liverpool had a stronger regular season, winning the Premier League title, while Manchester United finished second fiddle each time they came head-to-head. However, as we have seen in previous finals, anything can happen on the day and Manchester United will certainly not be an easy team to beat.

The atmosphere in Istanbul is sure to be electric, with both sets of fans making the trip to support their teams. The stakes couldn't be higher, and the pressure will be on both sides to perform at their best. The final promises to be a spectacle, with two of the biggest clubs in world football going head-to-head for the ultimate prize.

As the countdown to the final begins, both sets of fans will be eagerly anticipating the matchup, hoping that their team can come out on top. For Manchester United, it's a chance to defend their title and cement their status as one of the best teams in Europe, while for Liverpool, it's an opportunity to add to their illustrious history and lift the trophy for the first time since 2019. It's all to play for, and the world will be watching as these two giants of English football go head-to-head in what promises to be an unforgettable final.

Istanbul, Turkey – In what can only be described as an epic final, Liverpool emerged victorious against archrivals Manchester United, winning 4-3 in the UEFA Champions League final. Living up to everyone’s dreams, the match was incredibly even with both teams having 50% possession and 13 shots each.

Liverpool started the scoring in the 11th minute, capitalizing on United's high press to force a turnover on Raphaël Varane. Mo Salah picked up the ball and passed it to Curtis Jones, who then played a through ball past the United defense to Darwin Núñez, who calmly slotted it home to give Liverpool the early lead.

United answered immediately on the counter-attack in the 15th minute, as Cristiano Ronaldo played a perfectly weighted ball over the backline to Marcus Rashford, who controlled it beautifully and slotted it past Alisson in the Liverpool goal to even the score at 1-1.

The back and forth continued in the first half, with United taking the lead in the 36th minute thanks to a cross from Julián Álvarez that found the head of Renato Sanches. Sanches headed the ball into a dangerous area for Ronaldo, who acrobatically volleyed it past Alisson for his first goal of the game.

But Liverpool quickly responded, with Sadio Mané scoring in the 41st minute to level the score at 2-2. Then, in stoppage time of the first half, Liverpool took the lead again with Curtis Jones finishing off a pass from Salah that United believed was offsides.

The second half continued to be a back-and-forth affair, with United equalizing once again in the 63rd minute. A tremendous pass from Rashford found Álvarez in the box, who then laid it off to Ronaldo for an easy finish.

But Liverpool had the final say, as Youri Tielemeans found Salah in the box in the 78th minute and the Egyptian superstar finished in the far corner to seal the victory for Liverpool.

The game truly lived up to the hype, with both teams displaying a level of football that had everyone on the edge of their seats. The back-and-forth nature of the game, with both teams responding quickly to each other's goals, made for an electric atmosphere. The lead changed hands multiple times, and it was anyone's game until the final whistle. The high stakes of the UCL Final only added to the excitement and tension of the match. This game will surely go down as one of the most memorable finals in recent history, with both teams leaving it all out on the pitch.

Both managers spoke after the match, with Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp praising his team's resilience in the face of adversity. "This was a true battle, a true test of character," Klopp said. "But my boys showed what they're made of and I couldn't be prouder of them."

Meanwhile, United's Thomas Walker expressed disappointment at the result but praised his team's effort. "We gave it our all out there, but it just wasn't enough in the end," Walker said. "Credit to Liverpool, they're a fantastic team and they deserved the win."

Man of the Match Mo Salah was pleased with his performance, scoring one goal and providing an assist in the win. "This is a dream come true, winning the Champions League," Salah said. "But I couldn't have done it without my teammates. We're champions together."

The loss was a bitter pill to swallow for Ronaldo, who had announced prior to the match that it would be his last game in Europe. Despite the defeat, Ronaldo did everything he could to secure the win for United, scoring two goals and providing an assist in the losing effort.

"Yes, it's disappointing to lose, but we gave everything out there. We fought until the very end, and unfortunately, it just wasn't enough. It's tough to take, but that's football. Congratulations to Liverpool, they played a great game and deserved the win. As for me, this might be my last game in Europe, but I'm proud of what I've achieved, and I'm grateful for all the memories I've made. I'll always cherish my time here."

In the end, it was Liverpool who emerged victorious, securing their seventh Champions League trophy in club history. The win also adds another chapter to one of the biggest rivalries in soccer, as Liverpool and United continue to battle for supremacy in European football.

The 2022-23 season was Manchester United’s 31st season in the Premier League and their 48th consecutive season in the topflight of English football. The club experienced a major change in ownership midseason, with Jim Ratcliffe’s consortium purchasing the club from the Glazer family. Manchester United's goalkeeper position was a major talking point early on in the season, with David De Gea ultimately winning out over Sam Johnstone in a closely contested battle.

The club also had a fierce rivalry with Liverpool, with Liverpool winning two out of three head to head match ups, including the Champions League final. However, Manchester United were successful in other competitions, winning four trophies: the UEFA Super Cup, Club World Cup, EFL Cup, and FA Cup. This was the second season under manager Thomas Walker, with the club winning 47 of the 67 games they played. Manchester United earned 83 points in the Premier League, the most since Sir Alex Ferguson’s last season.

Club Captain Harry Maguire left the club in the summer before the season, along with several other key players, leading to the addition of several new faces, including Sam Johnstone, Maxence Lacroix, Oumar Solet, and Carney Chukwuemeka. Additionally, Renato Sanches was brought in on loan in January to bolster the midfield.

                          Shola Shoretire Handed Contract Extension

United's Teenager Spent Last Season Helping Derby County Stay in the Championship

                          By Felix Short | May 29, 2023, 7:00 AM

Manchester, England – It's been a thrilling season for Manchester United, with the team finishing second in the Premier League and reaching the final of the Champions League. But at a club like Manchester United, the offseason immediate kicks into gear, as the club has just announced a contract extension for one of their brightest young talents, Shola Shoretire.

At just 19 years old, Shoretire has already made waves in the football world. He made his first-team debut for Manchester United in February 2021, becoming the youngest player to play for the club in European competition. Since then, he's gone on to make several more appearances for the first team, as well as impressing during his loan spell at Derby County during the 2022-23 season.

Shoretire's loan spell at Derby County was a great success, with the young winger playing a key role in the team's push to remain in the Championship. He scored 6 goals and provided 6 assists in 44 appearances, showing his potential to be a creative force in the attacking third.

So it comes as no surprise that Manchester United have decided to extend Shoretire's contract, tying him to the club until 2028. But what is it that makes Shoretire such an exciting prospect for the club?

At his core, Shoretire is a talented and versatile winger. He's equally comfortable on both sides of the pitch, able to cut inside and create chances for his teammates, or use his pace to take on defenders and get in behind the defense. His ability to play on either wing gives Manchester United flexibility in their attacking options and makes him a valuable asset for the team.

But Shoretire's talents go beyond just his technical ability on the pitch. He's known for his work ethic and determination, qualities that are highly valued by Manchester United's coaching staff. Speaking about Shoretire earlier this year, assistant manager Mike Phelan said: "He's a terrific young lad with a good work ethic. He's keen to learn and listen, and he's got a good talent base to work from."

These qualities have also been noticed by Shoretire's teammates, who have been impressed with his attitude and commitment. After his debut in February 2021, former captain Harry Maguire said: "He's a great lad, a great talent. He's got a great attitude, he works hard in training and he's got a big future ahead of him."

Shoretire's contract extension is also a testament to Manchester United's commitment to youth development. The club has a proud history of bringing through young players, with the famous "Class of '92" being the most notable example. More recently, players like Hannibal Mejbri, Anthony Elanga, and Kobbie Mainoo have all made significant contributions to the first team after coming through the academy.

In an era where big money transfers are the norm, the ability to develop young talent can give a club a real advantage. It allows the team to build a sustainable and successful future, rather than relying on short-term solutions. Manchester United's investment in Shoretire is a sign that the club is committed to this strategy and believes that he can be a key player in the years to come.

So what can we expect from Shola Shoretire in the future? There's no doubt that he has the potential to be a real contributor for Manchester United. With his technical ability, work ethic, and versatility, he has all the tools to become a key player for the team. Of course, he's still young and will need time to develop and adjust to the demands of top-level football. But with the right guidance and support, he could be a major asset for the club for many years to come.

For Shoretire himself, the contract extension is a dream come true. Speaking after the announcement , he said: "I'm absolutely delighted to have signed a new contract with Manchester United. This is the club that I've supported since I was a young boy, so to be able to play for them and sign a long-term deal is a dream come true."

Shoretire also expressed his gratitude for the support he's received from the coaching staff, his teammates, and the fans: "I'd like to thank the coaches and everyone at the club for their belief in me. I've had some amazing experiences already, and I'm really excited about what the future holds. And to the fans, thank you for your support. I can't wait to play in front of you again soon."

It's also worth noting that the contract extension for Shoretire fits into Manchester United's wider plans for the team. With Thomas Walker at the helm, the club is focused on building a team that can compete at the highest level while also developing young talent. The likes of Hannibal Mejbri, Alejandro Garnacho, and Amad are already established first-team players, and with Shoretire and others coming through, the future looks bright for the club.

Of course, there's still work to be done. Manchester United will be looking to push on and challenge for silverware in the coming seasons, and Shoretire will be looking to continue his development and make a bigger impact on the first team. But with the contract extension now secured, both the club and the player can look forward to a bright future together.

REPORT: Real Madrid Make Julián Álvarez Summer's Focal Point

                              By Oliver Lewis May 30, 2023 132

MANCHESTER, ENG - The silly season has begun as the transfer window prepares to open. Real Madrid has reportedly identified Manchester United's Julián Álvarez as their number one target of the summer. The Spanish giants are said to be prepared to go to great lengths to bring the talented forward to Madrid, viewing him as the perfect replacement for departing star Marco Asensio.

Álvarez joined Manchester United in January 2022 from River Plate for a fee of £18.7 million, and has quickly established himself as a key player for the club. In the 2022-23 season, he played 2,309 minutes over 38 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing 9 assists in all competitions. It's no surprise that his performances have caught the eye of the Spanish giants.

For Manchester United fans, the news of Real Madrid's interest in Álvarez will come as a blow. The 23-year-old has shown great promise during his time at the club, combining pace, skill, and an eye for goal to become a valuable member of the squad. His ability to play as a central striker or out wide makes him a versatile option for the team, and his work rate and commitment have earned him the admiration of the Old Trafford faithful.

But with Real Madrid reportedly prepared to make a big-money move for Álvarez, it's unclear whether Manchester United will be able to keep hold of their rising star. It's no secret that Real Madrid have a history of poaching top talent from other clubs, and Álvarez would undoubtedly be a valuable addition to their squad. If Manchester United do decide to sell, they'll likely demand a hefty fee for the player, given his potential and recent form.

For Álvarez himself, the prospect of joining Real Madrid will no doubt be an attractive one. The Spanish giants are one of the most successful and prestigious clubs in the world, and playing alongside the likes of Karim Benzema, Harry Kane, and Vinicius Junior would be a dream come true for many young players. However, it's worth noting that Álvarez has spoken in the past about his happiness at Manchester United, and his desire to continue improving and contributing to the team's success.

So what does the future hold for Julián Álvarez and Manchester United? At this point, it's anyone's guess. The club will undoubtedly be doing everything in their power to keep hold of their prized asset, but if Real Madrid come calling with a big enough offer, it could be difficult to resist. On the other hand, Álvarez may decide that he's happy at Manchester United and wants to continue his development with the team.

One thing's for sure - if Álvarez does end up leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid, it will be a loss for the Premier League club. He's a talented and exciting player, with the potential to become one of the best in the world. But if there's one thing that Manchester United fans know, it's that the club has a proud history of developing and nurturing young talent. If Álvarez does depart, they'll no doubt have another rising star waiting in the wings.

As for Real Madrid, the potential signing of Álvarez would be another statement of intent from the club. After a relatively neutral season by their high standards, they'll be looking to make big moves in the transfer market to strengthen their squad and mount a serious challenge to repeat as La Liga Champions next season. Álvarez would be a valuable addition to the team, providing pace, creativity, and goals in the attacking third.

How Young Red Devils Fared on Loan

                                By Oliver Lewis May 31, 2023 132

MANCHESTER, ENG - Manchester United have had a busy season of loaning out players, with twelve players leaving the club to get valuable experience elsewhere. This has been a common strategy for the club in recent years, as they look to give their young players a chance to play regular first-team football and gain the experience needed to succeed at the highest level.

                                Bruno Schmitt

Bruno Schmitt's loan spell at Swansea City was a valuable experience for the young goalkeeper, as he was able to get regular first-team football and gain valuable experience in a competitive environment. The 19-year-old goalkeeper made 52 appearances for the Welsh side, keeping 11 clean sheets and showing why he is considered one of the most promising young keepers in Europe. His performances have certainly caught the attention of many, including former Manchester United goalkeeper and current Swansea City coach, Martyn Margetson.

Margetson has been impressed by Schmitt's development over the course of the season, saying: "Bruno has been fantastic for us this season. He's got a great attitude, works hard in training, and has really developed his game over the course of the season. He's shown that he has the potential to be a top-class goalkeeper, and I'm sure he has a bright future ahead of him."

Schmitt's performances have also caught the eye of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, with several top sides reportedly monitoring his progress. While it remains to be seen where Schmitt will end up in the long-term, it's clear that he has a bright future ahead of him.

Despite the interest from other clubs, Schmitt has made it clear that his focus is on continuing to develop as a player and earning a place in the Manchester United first team. "My dream is to play for Manchester United, and I'm focused on doing everything I can to make that happen," he said. "I know that it won't be easy, but I'm prepared to work hard and give everything to make my dream a reality."

                                Shola Shoretire

Shola Shoretire had a great season out on loan at Derby County, impressing with his technical ability, work ethic, and versatility. The 19-year-old winger made 44 appearances for the Championship side, scoring 6 goals and providing 6 assists. His performances earned him plaudits from both the coaching staff at Derby and Manchester United, with many tipping him to have a bright future in the game.

"Shola has done really well at Derby, he's got a lot of potential and he's definitely one to watch for the future," said Manchester United manager Thomas Walker. "He's got great technical ability, he works hard on the pitch, and he's very versatile, which is a great attribute to have. We're really happy with how he's progressed, and we're looking forward to seeing him continue to develop in the coming years."

Shoretire himself has spoken about how much he enjoyed his loan spell at Derby, and how it helped him develop as a player. "It was a great experience for me to get regular first-team football at Derby, and I'm really grateful for the opportunity," he said. "I learned a lot during my time there, and I think I improved as a player. I'm looking forward to coming back to Manchester United and continuing my development with the club."

One moment that stood out for Shoretire during his loan spell was his goal in a 2-1 win over West Bromwich Albion in February. The goal was a moment of magic, as he picked up the ball on the left flank, cut inside onto his right foot, and curled a beautiful shot into the top corner of the net.

"It was a great feeling to score that goal, and it was definitely one of the highlights of my loan spell," said Shoretire. "It was a tough game against a good team, and we needed the win, so to be able to contribute with a goal was really special."

His performance on loan earned him a contract extension with Manchester United, which he signed a few days ago.

                                Björn Hardley

Björn Hardley may not have set the world alight during his loan spell at Oxford United, but the 20-year-old defender has taken a lot from the experience. In 38 appearances for the League One side, Hardley managed just one goal and one assist. However, the loan spell allowed him to play regular first-team football, which is vital for his development.

Speaking about his time at Oxford, Hardley said: "It was a really valuable experience for me. I was able to get regular first-team football and learn a lot from the coaches and the senior players at the club. While I didn't contribute as much as I would have liked in terms of goals and assists, I feel like I improved a lot as a player during my time there."

Hardley has shown promise in his time at Manchester United, and he will be hoping to continue his progress in the coming seasons. The young defender has impressed United's coaching staff with his physicality, defensive ability, and technical skill, and he will be looking to build on his loan spell and establish himself as a key player for the club in the future.

While he faces stiff competition for a place in the first team, Hardley is determined to continue working hard and improving as a player. With his potential and dedication, he has all the tools to become a top-class defender and a key player for Manchester United in the future.

                                Teden Mengi

Teden Mengi also spent time at Derby County, making 43 appearances and providing 3 assists. His performances earned him rave reviews, and he was even compared to Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand by some fans.

"Teden has had a great loan spell at Derby," said Manchester United manager Thomas Walker. "He's gained valuable experience, and he's shown that he has the potential to be a top-class defender. We're excited about his future, and we believe that he can be a key player for Manchester United in the years to come."

Mengi himself has spoken about the importance of the loan spell and how it has helped him develop as a player. "Playing regular first-team football at Derby was a great experience for me," he said. "I learned a lot about myself as a player, and I feel like I've improved a lot over the course of the season. I'm grateful to Derby for giving me the opportunity to play, and I'm excited about what the future holds."

Ethan Galbraith spent the season on loan at Portsmouth, making 39 appearances and contributing 3 assists. The 20-year-old midfielder has been highly rated by Manchester United's coaching staff, and his loan spell at Portsmouth was a chance for him to gain valuable experience in a competitive environment.

Galbraith's versatility was on full display at Portsmouth, as he played in a variety of midfield positions throughout the season. Portsmouth manager, Danny Cowley, praised Galbraith's work ethic and technical ability, stating "Ethan has been a great addition to our squad this season. He's a hard worker, and he's got a great range of passing. He's also a quick learner, and he's adapted well to different positions in our midfield."

                                Zidane Iqbal

Zidane Iqbal's loan spell at Lincoln City was one of the most successful among Manchester United's loanees this season. The 20-year-old attacking midfielder made 31 appearances for the League One side, contributing 3 goals and 7 assists. Iqbal's performances were impressive, with his technical ability and creativity standing out as key assets for Lincoln City.

Iqbal's performances did not go unnoticed by Manchester United's coaching staff, who have been closely monitoring his progress. The club has high hopes for Iqbal, who has been described as a "fantastic talent" by Nick Cox, Head of Manchester United's Academy. "Zidane has great technical ability and a good football brain," Cox said. "He's a creative player who can unlock defenses with his passing and vision."

Iqbal has also received praise from his loan manager at Lincoln City, Michael Appleton. "Zidane is a fantastic talent who has done really well for us this season," Appleton said. "He's a hard-working player who has shown great determination to succeed. He's a creative player who can score goals and create chances, and I'm sure he has a bright future ahead of him."

With his impressive performances at Lincoln City, Iqbal has shown that he has the potential to be a key player for Manchester United in the future. While it's unlikely that he will break into the first team right away, his loan spell has given him valuable experience and shown that he has the ability to succeed at a high level.

                                Álvaro Fernández

Álvaro Fernández spent the season on loan at Accrington Stanley, making 40 appearances and contributing 2 goals and 3 assists. The 20-year-old fullback has been highly rated by Manchester United's coaching staff, and his loan spell at Accrington Stanley was a chance for him to gain valuable experience in a competitive environment.

Fernández's performances at Accrington Stanley have caught the eye of many, including former Manchester United defender Wes Brown, who praised the young Spaniard for his "excellent performances" and "maturity beyond his years". Fernández has also been compared to former Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra, who was known for his attacking prowess and tireless work rate.

While it remains to be seen whether Fernández will break into the Manchester United first team, his loan spell at Accrington Stanley has certainly put him on the radar.
