" As of now, we’ve got, you know, many if not most of the schools licensed as part of our licensing platform..."

This statement is not encouraging. Most of the schools could be as little as 67 (of 133 FBS Schools in 2023) schools. Had he said, "We've got most of the schools..." I would think they maybe had 100 or more.

This is going to get ugly for EA. I know the popular opinion is players will just want to be in this game for thw legacy of being in a video game, no matter how little the monetary gain. But like they say, " it's always about the money, especially when it's not about the money ".

I disagree. Posturing is easy now, as the deadline approaches players will sign up as they won't want to be left behind and not in the game.

Much ado about nothing IMO. Glad to hear EA has said the game is coming out, with or without names. That's the right attitude to take.

I do hope you are right. The best thing that could happen is the game is released with all fake players, and then let the players see that what sells the game is the names on the jersey front, and not the jersey back. But I still figure haters gonna hate, and critic EA for not ponying up the dough to get the players license. IF they don"t in fact get it.

Yeah, the reason I say this is if you could look back at my old posts I was always saying the game had to have real player names. HAD TO!

But at this point I'm just happy to have the game back. I mean I do want names and likenesses but like others have said, just sim a few years and it doesn't matter anyways.

And unlike before, EA can always roll out updates. Them signing everyone by such and such a date is just what the game will ship with is all. EA knows this and will use it as leverage...

"Hey we hope you sign, but if not the game will go forward without you" is the right attitude for them to take.
Now next year and year after, once we are "spoiled" by having a college football game, maybe not so much.

But right now people just want the darned game and I think EA knows this.

It's this for me. And I agree, likely many others. As much as I love and appreciate the CFB Revamped folks and output, not having a CFB game on the (now) last two gens makes it feel dated to me. Though I don't need the absolute best graphics over everything, I can't help but want a game that generally looks of modern times and while NCAA 14 isn't a bad looking game - it is certainly not going to be mistaken as a modern game. And while Madden has caused a lot of frustration over the past decade, they've also made some improvements in other gameplay areas that I would love to see brought to (and expanded on!) in a modern CFB game.

Right now we NEED a new game for 2024. Right now the minimum teams teams for a conference is 6. Unless the Pac-12 adds two teams for 2024, they will need a waiver to have a 4-team conference. I believe the NCAA football series forced you to have 8 (but I could be wrong), so you will not be able to create the actual conferences. The max is conference size in NCAA football series 16 teams and the B1G will have 18 teams in 2024. We have gotten to the point where NCAA 14 can no longer represent the college football landscape.

I'd gladly take 67 just to get a college football game on a ps5 console. 67 is better than 0.

I suspect the vast majority will want to be in the game because high school players will be excited about this game and will gravitate toward the schools they see in the game. Not being in the game will be a disadvantage in recruiting.

The holdouts will be minimal and not last long, esp once the game drops, is my prediction.

Re: EA CEO Provides Latest Update on EA Sports College Football

Matt Brown, from the Extra Points newsletter, has been answering some questions on Twitter following his latest article.

When asked specifically about Notre Dame (one of the holdouts), he replied "...Every FBS school is gonna be in the game, even if all of their paperwork is not signed, sealed and delivered as of right this second."

When asked what percent chance he puts on a Summer '24 release, he replied "Virtually 100%...tech hiccups can always happen...everybody I've talked to has been consistent in saying this thing is now on schedule"

When asked about schools currently doing stadium upgrades, specifically Texas Tech, and if those schools got that info to EA, he replied "Actually, yes. Was told schools could share renderings of the finished product, and it can all be polished with new photos after completion." And that there's about half a dozen schools in that boat.

His new article was about a new piece of correspondence sent FROM EA to all the schools in regards to rivalry games, such as trophies, sponsors, official logos, etc.

I agree. This is being sensationalized by the few licensing groups, it's a money dispute.

I expect most players will sign-up, and if they don't, I'm okay with QB#5 in the game.

Honestly with the realignment going on in college football it's taken the wind out of my sails with regards to a new game. I hope there is some customization because I'd personally prefer to stick with more "traditional" alignments like Texas and Oklahoma in the Big 12, an actual Pac-12 etc.

Depending on those things I may just stick with 14.

I've heard rumors that the Generic players will have names (guys that don't want to be in the game or can't come to an agreement), but you wont be able to edit it. From what I've heard the only thing that can be edited is equipment for all players and ratings and that is it. Don't even think team Builder or roster sharing will be a thing either. Obviously it's just a rumor at this point so who knows how it all plays out. Still a long way to go to iron some things out.
