    NBA 2K23’s contest system

I really like where we ended up at the end of the year as far as the contest system and the CPU’s defensive reaction goes…A lot of the glue/psychic AI was removed and allowed the creativity to flow on offense…which is a big part of the game for me personally..

Shots like these were very hard to come by on HOF (or even all star) previous years..

It can always use improvements but I hope they build off 2K23s momentum

Was your shooting sliders Gather/Strength on default [emoji848]

I feel like in 2k23 its always:

        - covered: miss
        - open: make

To me I mostly know if a ball is going in ahead of time. Felt more natural in the older games.

On standard HoF no way was I making contested shots like that. But lowering jumper defensive strength sliders to 10 for user and cpu and it’s perfect for me. But 2K23’s defense is the best of any 2K I’ve played for sure (I haven’t played all). It’s organic without 2K22’s glue on ball defense cheese. You can still dunk away with good slashers but when I turn cpu defense sliders to 98 (on ball, awareness, lateral, consistency) and help defense to around 70, it’s perfect. On ball is sticky but still human, and help defense is effective.

I'm still playing on the Season 5 patch old-gen, so not the newest latest of anything, but I recently switched to default Pro just to see what it was like (I was mostly jumping between All-Star, Superstar, and HOF all year) and I have to say that shooting is great on Pro. When wide open it's reasonably forgiving, yet I still have a chance to hit a contested shot, so long as I time it well and it isn't an awful shot (i.e., way out of range or while being actively smothered by a defender). I haven't really done further slider tweaking yet, but my feeling is that starting from Pro and then beefing up the CPU (shooting, IQ, etc.) might be the way to go.

What’s the online default difficulty for 2K23? I feel games these days now focus on whatever the online default. I like your ideas!!

This is what the extreme portion of players want. No randomness, all "stick skills".

I'd be curious how many of those players watch the real games because a big part of why the NBA can be so exciting is because of the randomness. The fact that Stephen Curry can have a bad night shooting 3/13 from 3 is what makes the NBA special. How boring would it be if every game players shot the same and there was no variance?

Exactly what I was looking for! I know this is 23 but I had the same problems there too. Loving 24 but on HOF it's still impossible to hit contested shots which is too unrealistic. Especially when they're showing clips of Kobe hitting turnaround 3's on double teams and all type of other shots right in defenders face playing the best defense you can possibly play. I know there's a hot/cold streak meter, so do you have to get extremely hot to hit contested shots? Has anyone ever hit an and 1 three on HOF? Not trying to hit them all but 10-25% would be nice when it's a perfect shot, just contested. That shot by Tatum on HOF is exactly what I can't do unless I'm right at the rim. Can you do that shot in an actual game instead of practice?

Yes. I can hit contested 3's and mid ranges. However, 3's are very rare. But I hit about 5 to 10 contested mids per game. It's very inconsistent though. I have no idea what is a good or bad shot.

Plus on 3s, it is almost impossible to time shots because the contested shot animations have no release point. The guys started flopping around mid shot so there is no way to time it

Something I miss about the older 2K’s - Shooting those contested shots didn’t send you into a full on flail animation…you’d still go into a timeable jumpshot even if it had a tiny window

Appreciate it. Since it's possible, I'll keep at it but I can't hit none of the contested shots the computer hits. I understand hof is harder but shots still should go both ways. Hof is so good, the contested shots thing is probably the only gripe I have. May just need to wait for a good roster because a lot of defenders are overpowered with badges and stuff that I know nothing about. Glad cross play is alive, I'll use the money I usually buy the ps5 version with to support them.

The game needs to call fouls. Calling more fouls would fix all of these problems. About 50 percent of the closeouts the defender is jumping into your body and sliding under your landing spot.

More contact on jumpers this year than ever.

In PlayNow Online, I have users over-closing out on jump shots and I'm getting to the line with ease. But I can only speak for PlayNow Online.
