    Progressiond/Regression Slider Discussion Thread

As we all know, this year we have some new sliders that are very much welcome. We now can set the progression and regression rates for each age in our franchise mode.

I thought it may be good for the community to have place to talk about these new sliders specifically. I would love to see the thread blossom into one where we have multiple people throwing out ideas for different setups, having people test different setups, etc. so we can all have different ways to set the sliders to get the desired franchise mode experience we all deserve.

I, for one, am anxious to see the different ways people use these sliders to customize their franchise mode. I saw someone in another thread mention ramping up the progression sliders for early ages, but also the regression sliders so that the Stars/Superstar players are able to out-progress the regression and have longer careers, but the average Normal development players have a higher chance of only sticking around for 2 or 3 years.

What slider theories do you all have and maybe even potentially plan to test out?

looking forward to this thread. I appreciate them for adding new features but I'm not sure how to go about them; hoping the slider savy ones here can help!

      Progressiond/Regression Slider Discussion Thread

I spent a good chunk the beta period simulating seasons with the age regression sliders maxed out, the idea being “perform or perish”. Couldn’t export any data from beta franchises without the companion app, obviously, but just from eyeballing it the results looked decent.

Hoping the companion app drops soon so I can run some actual statistical analysis on some simulated leagues with that setup.

        So every age/position maxed out?

Only the age regression sliders worked in the beta. I would probably max out the RB regression slider? TBD about all of them.

Also I’m not vouching for this as the best way to play or anything, it’s just my opinion that Madden doesn’t really put enough downward pressure on veterans to get them out of the league the way that often happens in real life.

I like this. Perform or punish is as you said it! That’s why rosters get so dang bloated after a few years

I've have an initial setup that is quite aggressive with all the new sliders. Expect keeping in original xp sliders on 100%. With the intention of trying to somewhat replicate what happens season to season in the NFL. I have no idea if they work, but if they do it would make things like dev trait, on field production, injuries and playing opportunities more important. And create more player turnover as well.20230818_072142.jpeg20230818_071912.jpeg20230818_071937.jpeg20230818_072010.jpeg20230818_072054.jpeg

posted a thread on this, but here's what I have come up with so far as well as how it compares to base roster after 10 years.

                    Re: Progressiond/Regression Slider Discussion Thread

I run a 32 user online sim CFM. My goal is to make progressions/regressions a meritocracy in terms of production. It doesn't matter if you are 25 or 35, if you produce your OVR will reflect that. But also vice versa, if you're 25 and not producing, you shouldn't remain the same. My goal is to make every season in the CFM also like a new iteration of madden rosters/ovr

curious to see if theres a way to make your players development entirely based on performance. By keeping XP high for all ages. So long as you perform you get XP
and if you dont perform, you regress

Here's why: When you go from say M23 to M24, you're going to see new players at the top of their position, and others who have fallen from grace. I'd like to reflect this.

Currently, you're players age protects them from steep regression and in my opinion, it promotes farming.

Example, you have a 26 year old WR who's a 94 superstar. You drafted a rookie WR who's a 73 star. You decide to target the rookie this year to get his OVR up. At the end of the year your rookie WR finishes with 1300 yards and 14 TDs meanwhile the 26 yr old superstar only has 900 yards and 9 TDs.

However, because 26-27 is not a regression year for madden by default. That 94 OVR superstar is more or less going to remain a 94 OVR. He MAY lose superstar but that's about it. In reality his OVR should drop signifigantly (say 10 pts down to an 85).While the rookie should exceed the 26 year old to say an 89 OVR.

Example 2, you have a 30 year old RB who's an 85 OVR. Has a tremendous year rushing for 1800 yards and 19 TDs and wins OPOY. However, he loses a bunch of attributes and regresses down to an 82 despite being the top rusher in the league. In reality, he should ATLEAST remain an 85 OVR if not move into the 90s due to his stellar play.

Example 3, you have a 3rd year pro. Came into the league at 23. He plays DE. Rookie year (23) he wins DROTY. 16 sacks. Moves from a 75 Normal to a 89 SS over one year. Year 2, at 24 he plays well but not quite as dominant. 9 sacks. Keeps SS and remains 89. Year 3 though (at 25) he continues to struggle. Just 3 sacks on the year.

In madden, he'd still remain a 89 OVR. However, this is a guy who is fading out of the league. IRL or in a new madden his OVR would be stripped. I'd like to have it so he regressed down to an 80 and just a normal or star. However, he has a redemption story. Gets traded, in year 4 at 26, he finds himself again like he did as a rookie and explodes for 15 sacks. At 26 in base madden he'd more or less stay that 80 OVR. I'd like to see him jump back up to an 88 OVR as a star/SS.

I hope this makes sense. I'm thinking the XP sliders need to be jacked up for the ages that line up with your regression ages (default is 29). So it creates a environment where the XP gained outweighs the XP/regression of the age they are in. Make sense?

Makes sense and definitely sounds interesting. I am hoping someone creates a tool that can accurately reflect typical progression/regression in the game so we can test a lot of different values out through a tool and get a clearer picture of how different setups work so we don't have to spend as much time sitting there as we sim 10 years into a franchise.

I really want to get down and dirty with these sliders, but I'm honestly also put off by the idea of sitting there waiting for the game to sim 10 years at a time over and over and over.

Definitely sounds lol dev trait caps need to be having factored into these because XF/SS traits delay regression.

I felt like this article would do very well in a thread like this. It can essentially guide some XP sliders so that progress/regression mimic real life production bell curves to simulate when players typically enter and leave their prime at some positions.

In an extensive study, Ryan Heath examines the ideal ages for fantasy football production at RB, WR, and TE, plus when players decline.

A significantly longer read that goes much more into depth and is more scientific, but I'm sure some other nerds like me may enjoy reading it.
