    Coach Mode Impressions

I am a big Coach Mode player, I usually handle all the player management and play calling in games, however, I do not control any players.

I know there are a lot of Coach Mode players out there, so thought it would be great to hear of any improvements to Coach Mode in Madden 24!!

Coach mode is exactly the same as the past several years. User QB still does not scramble or run, causing lots of sacks. Still no penalties. Still have to user special teams. But the ultimate game killer is the HFA bug. Once a team gets momentum maxed out, the game is basically over. For example, I beat the Titans 69-0 the other night using coach mode. I’ve also been blown out when the cpu got max momentum

I also “user” a DT. I don’t use lb, but you can. Personal preference. Maybe I should start doing that lol.

I can say any position not lined up on the line of scrimmage still mans up on an offensive player when using lb.

What about on offense. I've tried to control a WR or RB, but after the ball is hiked it goes back to the QB.

I only play "Coach Mode" as well.

The lack of QB scrambling really does kill the experience of playing in this mode.

The way I reduce the number of sacks my QB takes is to make sure the attribute for "Throw Ball Away" is set to set to "YES"

Most QBs in the game are set to "NO" - While it doesnt fix the problem, it will reduce the number of sacks your QB takes in the game.

Another thing Ive been playing with is "Senses Pressure" - Im assuming this effects how quickly your QB makes a decision on throwing the ball.
But havent done enough testing to truly have an answer.

Hope this helps in some fashion

Two other things you can try. Both involve making pre-snap line adjustments

                1) Utilize ID the Mike. Doesn’t seem to work quite as well this year as it did last year, but still helps

                2) My friend swears by this method. I have tested it some and it does appear this works. Pull up the pre-snap line adjustment menu and then just hit reset. That’s it. Seems to re-align the o-line assignments or something. Not sure exactly, but I have been seeing fewer sacks since I started trying it.

                  Re: Coach Mode Impressions

Coach mode is basically unchanged from years past. User QB's still don't scramble (they did in the beta for me though sometimes). Only way to maybe see your QB scramble is to slow sim jump to next play.(you unfortunately can't call plays this way). Option play calls are useless as the QB keeps the ball regardless every time. You still need to hold a button on defense unless you slow sim jump to next play(if you do this you can't pick the defensive play). You can get around special teams (FG, kickoffs/punts , returns) by slow sim jump to next play (This is not perfect in kickoff/punt and FG situations as the cpu may decide to run a play instead of kicking a FG or punting)
EA and 2k have the unfortunate task of trying to balance on a tightrope of fun and sim while trying not to fall 10,000 feet to their death. Instead of a safety net waiting down below there will just be angry customers quick to move out of the way and talk of their failure.

Both option plays and RPOs work fine this year if you player lock on the halfback. Screens not so much still. But for the most part you are correct, coach mode is pretty much the same as every year.

If you're willing, there is a way to play something that's more inline with coach mode than just doing auto pass.

You play on a zoomed out camera like 'wide' (my personal preference), switch to a HB on passing plays, player lock on the HB and the QB will be fully AI controlled. One caveat to this is that now being player locked on a back you have to run his route. I counter this by ONLY calling pass plays where the HB is blocking or running a check and release (he'll run the route on his own for a check n release). It works well enough but obviously still has some sack issues...but at least the QB will not be a statue. Problem is you might lose more yards. Because he'll move, instead of just seeing a statue sack, you might see him move away from the LOS and take a bigger loss. It's all in what you want though.

I can't really do AI vs. AI because I get bored not having anything to do during the game. *shrug*

The only issue I have with this, the camera follows your player and not the ball, resulting in the ball going off screen too much for my liking. I generally only use player lock for RPOs and option plays.

That being said, if you can deal with the camera issue, this is a viable option for coach mode. You can also use plays that have a "blue" route in the playcall screen OR plays that someone going in motion, then player lock on the player running the blue route or going in motion. They will auto run on those plays. Again, the camera follows your player and not the ball.

If you use wide camera and don't reset it after you player lock, it does a pretty decent job of showing most of the field on passing plays unless your HB goes to the extreme side of the field away from your QB. Give it a shot. If/when I do fire up M23 that's how I like to play when I'm not hurting my team playing as the QB. haha

I have been playing coach mode for 13 years in a 32 owners league league. It is a blast. My reflexes are a little slow so I am horrible in the "control the player" leagues. Coach mode allows me to still have a competitive time playing PC football against other people.

To get your QB to scramble in Coach mode the QB must be a Scrambler QB Arch-type and have the Scramble style. Then you "player lock" any player on the field. I suggest you player lock the HB and hot route him to a hot block. That way he stays in to help blocking or you can player lock on a TE that has the BLUE delay routes. They will play as normal but then go out on their designed route.
