People opening up about $$$ spent on past 2k games

Holy ****, I knew some gamers had wallets, but just doing all these builds, buying VC and not even including the main game, and I've seen people claim they've spent $300-500 easily and some reaching $1k or even more. Now with 2k24 it seems people who want the best experience will have to go at least $300-500 again, excluding the main game, and potentially more. Several have said they will not do the same as they only now realize how much 2k has taken out of their pockets.

Granted, you as an individual make that decision, but there's of course scummy tactics behind certain aspects of it that go beyond a simplistic take like "just don't buy it". As an offline guy I will never anyway, and I couldn't care less about MyPlayer, MyTeam etc. But man, it's insane how much they can make off of just one NBA game, let alone several others. But think about that for a minute, hundreds of dollars for one game?! That's mind blowing to me.

As some have stated in another thread, there's no reason for Charles Barkley not to be in if they make this much $$$ and would only need to justice to retired players with a million to a few million $ donation. My guess is they are making a stand and will not budge, same with Charles, but if you look at the numbers, I don't see how they cannot if not Charles, then at least do right by some families of players who are deceased like Mason.

I don't think anything will change, even if people massively decided to take a stand with 2k24 and not buy anything beyond the main game. And I think a lot of this is just posturing and talk, people will eventually want to enjoy as they've always done and pony up the $$$. Just thought it might be an eye-opener for other people here as well.

It’s truly a two way street. Between 2K’s shady business practices and these IDIOTS and their willingness to spend anything beyond the price of the base game (esp $500-1000? I mean c’mon….) There is no going back at this point.

The day that 2k decides to lock historic teams behind a paywall, is the day where I’ll be done with this series. And trust me, that day is likely coming.

Hopefully they're making so much money from VC and modes like My Career that they'll stick with milking those customers. They know those fans aren't going anywhere.

I can definitely see them being greedy and trying to find other areas of the game to exploilt but that could be a bit too risky. The introduction of the season passes is already controversial as even 2k streamers are calling it out. Video game outlets already criticize NBA 2k year after year because of VC and microtransactions, that will only get worse if these practices cut of content that has been included in the series for over a decade. A lot of people would turn on 2K if they went that route.

Going back to the OP, I cannot imagine spending this much money on one video game. My mind immediately goes to all the other thing I could be putting that money towards (other video games, another video game console, a vacation, new tv, sound system, etc). What's insane is that people do this year after year. If progress or VC carried over, at least to some extent, it would make the situation a little better, but people spend all this money just to start all over again the following year. For streamers and content creators it might not be that big of a deal since they are, to an extent, spending money to make money but what a colossal waste of money for the average person or kid that is just trying to get the most of their time and experience.

They actually did this one year. I forget the year, but they actually locked the best historic players behind a VC wall on offline blacktop mode.

        Hilarious.

You figure folks would be laughing at them in their comments for spending that kind of money on a video game but then it's just comment after comment of "oh I spend this much"

After looking at what they're spending PT Barnum was right.......there's a sucker born every minute.

What gets me is some of these jokers are wearing the amount of money they spent on 2k like it's a badge of honor.

This isn’t new these guys spend well over thousand on my team. I’ve seen Reddit threads of guys maxing out their credit cards and realizing they need to stop.
