Also another problem I am experiencing is that the face often does not look on the player like it does on the thumbnail. Does anyone know what’s going on with this?

Generic player faces in franchise?
So tried changing Amik Robertson to look more like his real life self. There are a ton of faces listed as “Generic” but they actually look like real people! I saw one that looked like kyler Murray and one that looked exactly like Sauce Gardner. Are these generic faces or face scans of real players????

Re: Generic player faces in franchise?
The generic heads are scans of real people, but not necessarily NFL players. Any resemblance to an NFL player is likely entirely coincidental.
Somewhat related, keep in mind if you change an NFL player’s head in edit appearance, his menu portrait will be lost and you won’t be able to recover it. -

Re: Generic player faces in franchise?
The bugs aside, I was creating a few undrafted free agents for the Browns, and when I went to choose their face, I was surprised how many there are to choose from and some look darn good compared to the past. The little thumbnail often looks nothing like them. What's odd is you see the thumbnail, see the 3d model, select it, yet later in the game it just has a generic silhouette for their portrait rather than the thumbnail anyway. Weird.
I was rather impressed with the number of options this year. Stinks that it screws up portraits though and probably messes up their names being said too?Comment

Yeah. I saw the generic faces and thought they were real players. That’s how much better they are this year. The bugs aside, I was creating a few undrafted free agents for the Browns, and when I went to choose their face, I was surprised how many there are to choose from and some look darn good compared to the past. Re: Generic player faces in franchise?
It's not a bug.
One of the devs - I forget who at this point - reported this behavior as a deliberate design choice back when player editing was reintroduced into what was then known as Connected Franchise. Wanna say Madden NFL 15 or thereabouts.Comment

Re: Generic player faces in franchise?
Yea, it's a design choice. Although the thumbnail looking different at times is just EA not prioritizing rosters. They probably should. I am one who demands that we at least try to get players right, since the NFL is a player's league. Or give us a powerful roster editor that doesn't break the game.Comment
