As per usual, I don't know a single artist on this list. Literally.

I'll try to reserve judgement until I hear it. There have been artists on previous 2Ks I've never heard but in the long run did like the songs.

Haven't really been any imo since 2K17. Just don't care for the mumbling in new school hip hop.

For as bad as 2k18 was, it really was the last 2k to show throwbacks a lot of love.

I liked the J. Cole playlist last year enough to not really turn it off. The beauty of next-gen is if this year isn’t up to par, it’s back to Spotify-ing through the menus.

Happy to see a mix of poppin mainstream artists like glorilla, ice spice, youngboy, then say smaller or less mainstream names like larry june or kamiyah

I miss when they had a good mix of genres instead of the 99% new rap they’ve had the past couple years. 2k16-2k19 had a good mix I feel. I made a Spotify playlist of my favorite 2k soundtrack songs last year that I would use instead of the 2k23 soundtrack.

I recognize some of these names and will probably know more songs than I realize, but surprised by the lack old school artists. They usually have a few from either the 80s or 90s, or at least some artists that have that kind of vibe and style. Maybe there are some artists like that and I just don't recognize them.

Edit: I should add that it doesn't really matter to me. If I'm going to listen to music while playing I'll just pop on my Spotify.

Man, I didn't realize I was such an old head. I know and have listened to like 5 people on here. I wish the soundtracks were how they used to be and have a better mix of old and new. Also miss when soundtracks used to have songs made entirely for that game.

What I would do though as to not alienate anyone, I'd have Playlist tied to eras. An 80s, 90s, 00s, 10s, 20s playlist so there's a mix of everything. Each with about 15-18 songs like old soundtrack lengths.

This applies to all sports games, I wish they focused on getting songs that are played in stadiums to add to the atmosphere and presentation. For example, "Shipping Up to Boston" and "Welcome to the Jungle" aren't exactly songs that come to mind when I think basketball, but they are used at various points during home Celtics games (tip-off, 4th quarter). I wonder if there would be a way for 2K to work with the NBA and teams to secure lengthy licenses for songs that are staples for specific arenas or multiple arenas. I wouldn't care if a song was on the soundtrack 5 years in a row if it's helping to making the atmosphere in an arena more authentic. "Roundball Rock" and "Sirius" (the Bulls/Jordan intro song) are also good examples of this.

That would actually make me care more about the soundtrack. Otherwise, I could kind of care less about the soundtrack as I can always turn it off and play my own music.

I know what you mean. The Lakers play Randy Newman's 'I Love LA' after every win. Personally, I'd be fine with just having the classic TV themes. CBS, NBC, ESPN, Fox, TNT the old and new. Madden used to have the NFL Films themes but they stopped putting them in the game for some reason. It definitely helped make it "feel" like football. I'd like those back along with the CBS, Fox, ESPN, NBC themes.

if they are going to pay homage, then include licensed tracks from 80's and 90's (the golden age of hip-hop). if they are unable to get them, then at least have modern day rappers cover some of the classics.
