Defense is horrible

I’m sure this has been discussed several times but the defense play is horrible. Way too many busted coverages where db’s or safeties completely leave receivers wide open to go to another receiver. I swear madden 99 was better than this. Is there a work around or a slider change that could possibly help with this. I can’t find a solution. Seems like this is an issue every year now.

I feel the same way. I just switched to matt10's sliders after getting tired of how I feel was unnatural playing. Just didn't feel right. First game with them results:

Miami vs LAC (I use Miami)

Herbert: 27-33 404 yards 5 td 0 int avg 12.2 long 75

Me: 11-28 194 yards 1 td 1 int 6.9 avg long 66

Turned it off with 7:23 left in the 4th.

Hard to comment without knowing the type of play (vs human or AI. Franchise or MUT) or skill level you play on.


I can tell you my All-Madden franchise as Dallas (who are well rated in pass defence) I am last in yards allowed, but 1st in sacks and interceptions. That's partly due to the AI playing from behind and I think my snap counts are a little high too. You can certainly stop the AI, and effectively play a variety of zone and man coverage, and zone and man blitzes.

There’s no amount of grinding to make that better. Just poor design. All the older generation madden games never did this.

For instance I’d be running man coverage and as soon as the cpu qb threw the ball my db left his man to try and cover another wr and left his wide open.

My biggest issue so far on defense is the cpu snapping the ball so freaking quick that I can’t make pre-snap adjustments.

I agree, online H2h user here, NO MUT, and I personally love playing defense this year against a user. Haven’t had this much fun in years on Madden

I haven’t had any of those issues with my franchise. What system is it for? I doesn’t seem like they put their all into the last gen ones

Just curious as I play DLine also, but do you notice EA put in and Auto pass she’s feature this year or am I crazy? I’ll notice my pass rusher when during and not choosing a pass rush move he will auto block shed and it’s kinda really annoying and feature that I think should be in the game

Defense on Madden is kind of a dice roll. If you get a good jump with your DE or DT, your LBs and secondary tighten up and do their job. If you get a bad jump, or you're stonewalled, your defense seems to be sloppier. I noticed that defense has been like that for at least the past couple of years on next gen.

What I do is I will typically line up from whoever the weakest is on the o-line and just try to win the matchup.

It makes sense though, football is a team sport and if you're not excelling at your assignment for whoever you're using you make other areas of the defense weaker.
