    Fictional or Real Life Franchises?

Simple question. Which do you prefer and why?

Let's expand our choices: Do you prefer, Real Life Franchises, Fictional OR Classic seasons?

I'm interested in how many players actually make franchises with some awesome fictional rosters out there?!

C'mon guys lets hear what franchises you roll with.

I like fictional franchises. I get too attached to real players and statistics and find I can have more fun with a roster that isn’t real. Not being concerned with outcomes I see as unrealistic and such.

Interesting argument. What roster would you suggest to give it a try ?

TC> as far as fictional rosters go for Show 22 I suggest Sluggbugg's and ZANNS fictional rosters.

        For Show 20 I suggest Bacon's and IBU's.

I'm making franchises for each of them. I currently have 15 franchises I can use . LOL

Fictional all the way. I just enjoy having a clean slate and not having a preexisting opinion on players.

my reasoning is because like others have said. If I don't know the players, the CPU teams make trades and they don't affect me (I'll check to make sure their fair) but it doesn't bother me JOHN SMITH went to the Phillies from NEW YORK YANKEES.

When you KNOW the players (IRL) you worry about trades, you try to make IRL trades and waivers like your franchise (frustrating trying to keep up).

Besides I made uniforms and assigned teams stadiums for each fictional franchise .

Retro only for me... something I've never done that I always wanted to do was play through the 90s or 00s and see how history would look if Chipper, Jeter, A-Rod... Mauer, Prior, Verlander ect had started their careers elsewhere.

Re: Fictional or Real Life Franchises?

Always play fictional with new cities, uniforms and players. Sometimes I use a pre-made fictional roster from here if one is ready when I want to start a franchise. Otherwise I sim 20 years to get all new players to do a draft.

I do the same with Madden and NBA 2k. For me, I just have too many expectations of present day teams / players. For instance, if I were to have played a franchise with the current day Braves I would expect to win every series. If I were to use the Royals I would expect to lose every series. If that didn't happen then I would think something is flawed.

So with fictional I pick a team, do a draft of fictional players, and have no expectations. Lot more fun that way for me.

Opd, I'm new to fictional rosters. Can I let the CPU make all the picks for a fictional draft?

If so how do I do that?

Yes you can. When you start your franchise it gives you the option to just simulate the draft where you do not pick the player, CPU does it for you.

I prefer to do a fantasy draft. I let the computer simulate the draft, and the end result is usually a pretty balanced league. I think it makes playing a franchise much more enjoyable. Additionally even though I am playing with real players, I don't have any expectations for them.

Real life for me. I totally understand one of the appeals to fictional rosters being the not having preconceived notions of what to expect out of players but it's that exact reason why I like real rosters. I enjoy understanding. I've worked hard for years to analyze the game, and don't want to relearn players I don't know, I like that I can (in my mind) already identify the major players (and I even like sometimes being wrong in my preconceived notions). This is also the reason why I love classical historical rosters more than anything, I know those guys so well, they are like an old comfortable shoe I work diligently at keeping around forever.

Long time OS user, first time posting. For fictional roster, I just pick my team (Blue Jays) then skip 25 seasons. This way you can keep the budgets on, no need to ignore. Every one is either retired or FA'd as 40+ year old with low overall ratings. A few seasons before you decide to start playing, you can do your draft picks and develop them. You can also sim your seasons along until your team is a power house or is the beginning a full blown rebuild. I was a big bacon roster fan. I even helped his team recreate his rosters for the show 21. Since no YtY saves, this is an easy way to play fictional.
